Yes agreed, it depends on the needs of the clubs with a pick before us and not every team has space though?

If we keep progressing as hoped our pick could be further back.

I did read the mid season draft is set for May 19 because that is when teams will all have played the same amount of games before the bye kicks in and the order is where teams are on the ladder at the time.
Fingers crossed!

Because I put a good 30 minutes of research into this and want more credit I'm bringing over my post from the Baker thread on the DTFA. I've dived deeper into why it would be INCREDIBLY unlikely for WC to get Baker.

Here is the names of players traded in by rebuilding teams (Gold Coast, West Coast, Freo, Adelaide, Hawks, North) since 2018 that were over 24 and cost more than a top 30 pick in value. Jess Hogan, Rory Lobb, Tim Kelly, Jaspar Pittard, Jared Polec and Dylan Shiel.

Now, there would be some debate on when these players were brought into their clubs that the club wasnt rebuilding, but that only strengthens my case.

Think it’d be worthwhile throwing our hat in the ring with Baker. I would have thought we would have heard something in the media if we were keen though

Would be great leadership and premiership experience for us. Is a gun footballer and you can never have to many of those

Are WC fans expecting they'll get him or Richmond fans hoping he elects WC (if he goes)?

I would've thought its unlikely WC wants to trade their 2nd for him, and certainly anything involving their 1st is out of bounds.

If we're keen given our draft hand we're box seat aren't we?

JOM was a surprise

A useful player that is a free agent and could be gettable is Isaac Cumming of GWS.
Very neat ball user off half back or a wing even, and is underrated. Would cost nothing in draft capital and would be a good age to hit the ground running as soon as he gets here.
Injured so far this season with a calf issue but has played some decent footy in his 75 career games for GWS.
Good call. Not sure the chances of him wanting to move to Freo but he's potentially squeezed out at GWS as a first choice player (particularly off HB) so we could at least offer him a preferred role?

I don't think Cumming is good enough to get a guaranteed anything here and that makes it difficult to see him coming over. There would be clubs he is clearly B22 at.
As much as he's been injured to start the season he's probably best 22 at GWS based on how many games he normally plays.

Of course things change but I think he'd get a game at most teams (all but one or two tbh) so they'd be plenty of suitors if he isn't at GWS.

I think he was in an out last year. Was B22 under Cameron though.

I stand by it though just from the eye test. Especially since we don't really play a defender who's just there to kick. Possibly underrating his defensive abilities but I don't remember that side of him but I absolutely remember his kicking.

I agree. Plus I think having a defender who's got good kicking skills that is borderline best 22 is a massive need for our list. Eg. So that our kicking skills from defence don't drop off dramatically with an injury or two to our first choice defenders. There was a reason why Dan Mckenzie was given a chance to prove his fitness and gain a list spot last preseason. Depth in players with high level kicking skills who play either wing or defence is a massive need for our list.

Yeah I'd take him for that reason, but he'd get a better offer than that if he left GWS.

Still played 20+ games the last few years. May not be a star but those numbers suggest he's best 22

It sounds really harsh because of his injuries but JOM has been one of the most disappointing recruits in the last few years. I just honestly don’t know if he has played a good game for Freo yet, and on that basis I am really confused why he keeps getting a game.
I think it's honestly the way we use him more than anything else tbh. Seems like he's an afterthought when it comes to team selection and is more around for experience and leadership than anything else to me.

Haven’t seen much midfield craft from Emmett. He needs to nail down forward role first before he ventures into a midfield that already bats deep and doesn’t have room for Erasmus JOM and Brodie.

In saying that in years to come short bursts for kamikaze style could work but not now thanks.

Emmett is good with pressure acts but some of decision making at times leaves a little to be desired. He was subbed out the other game so is on the fringe really.
I’d say there’s some midfield craft in him and actually a very good one in his handball skills. I’m not saying he’s a plug and play midfielder but there’s definitely something to work with long term. He has a solid frame as well and plays aggressively. It’s not an outrageous suggestion

That's the impression I get too. To the extent that he has a preset role to play in the team, it's to be a calm head and a bit of a mentor to the younger guys when things get tough. Whether he's any good at that, and how much the younger guys need that are whole different questions. It's really hard to judge from outside whether those are big enough contributions to justify a place in the team each week, and even harder to see whether there's something more tangible that he could be asked to contribute that would catch our eye as fans.

His biggest strength is disposal by foot, which hasn’t had a chance to display as an inside mid, if he gets a full game, hoping he alternates wing and HHF with Banfield, his I50s have to be an improvement on AB or Serong.

Slowly catching up on tradies poddy

We had a nibble at Orazio last year once we lost shoota and Henry

He was already down the track with GWS and then the blues when it happened tho, no interest In coming to WA
