Hardeman was captain of the state 18's.
Dom Sheed was captain of the under 18's back in the day.
Hardeman would be a good get in what is a shitshow for recruits to Freo this draft. Really f'd up with our list mgt imo

Freo is clearly positioning itself for next years draft/trade. Something is going on re next year… this year they are mainly looking at internal growth… some hail Mary’s with the Draft.

Trick is with the Draft you have the players for a minimum of 2 years, so they need to show potential at our late picks, or be plug and play.

I’m not convinced, I’m not sure his foot skills would replace Young’s. Wilson I like ahead of Hardeman and Bodie Ryan would be a good get at our late picks.
Wilson will almost certainly be gone by any pick we d be able to realistically trade up to.
As for Ryan he’s a late pick so no more than a Hail Mary and would have no bearing on what type of player we d like to trade up for.

Hardeman was state captain , projects good leadership skills and apparently interviewed very well.
Walls has shown we place a high price on these traits in almost all of draftees.

Then on on the physical side he shows good intercept and defensive capabilities as well as an attacking rebound nature with elite speed- more so than young.
Has also shown ability as a wing.

And Whilst I agree technically he’s probably not as good a kick as young(still decent )I do think young’s actual efficiency by foot is overstated due to his reputation.

Anyway while I do think hardeman will be very good player and would be happy to get, I d still prefer collard personally if I had to choose between the 2.
I just get the feeling he’s the player wallsy is referencing to trading up for if still available.

Haven't the club already stated that that is their objective next seaso, as to why we have ,what is it , three first round selections?

I reckon Hardeman could also play wing.

Given he is a favourite of mine a good chance he isn’t on the radar of Walls.

I just have a feeling that he is the Nathan OD of the draft, in terms of the one we trade up for still on the board around 22.

I think we are going mature age in this draft, Mannagh to replace Schultz and Clohesy to replace Young. If the player (likely Hardeman) we want to trade up for is gone, I think we just go these two and a speculative pick like AOD.
Our list is stacked with young talent needing time to develop, we need plug and play options, even if they are just depth for now.

Plug and play in addition to McD and likely Sharp coming in would be a bit disappointing, but lets face it, we are not looking at an exciting draft for us (Beyond a mature small forward that is).

He looks great and happy to grab him, but if we don't, I think we can cover Young regardless. They don't have Young's skill set but Worner and Hughes are hbf-ers.

I'll add, Walker needs to come back in and I am unconvinced Longmuir will play Chapman on the wing. But if he does then Aish, NOD, and perhaps Johnson could find time in defence. Stanley is also a wild card for us; looking forward to his preseason.
Chapman won’t play on a wing, otherwise Hamling would still at the club.

Luke retired at 21, but he's ok. I spotted him enjoying a breakfast at my local cafe.

...I think.

Lol

Chapman, Pearce and Cox are our key backs.

If Chapman plays wing, then it creates a Key defensive role. Therefore, no reason for Hamling to leave.
McDonald has been added because Chapman isn't a KPD. He's 3rd tall at best and would be as likely to play on a small as a tall.

If one of Pearce or Cox goes down i expect McDonald or Ryan to play KPD. Perhaps even Hughes or trial one of the young lads. If they go down during a game, yes Chapman may be asked to cover. So might Young.

If Chapman played wing we wouldn't bring in either McDonald or Hamling. We need more mobility and flexibility than they provide.

How much would Shai Bolton cost? Any chance Richmond would take what's on offer for McDonald?

He recently signed a 3 year extension, we obviously aren’t putting in the work behind the scenes to get him, it’s a shame as he’d be perfect for our age demographic.
Hopefully last year showed they weren't as close to challenging as they thought they were. One more average year and hopefully they decide to re-stump.

Just take Collard, and in a few years we should be firing.
I’d take two small forwards to be honest.
Bobby Hill was on the table to draft.
That is what helps win a flag.

There's a Freo list management piece by Ralph in the Herald Sun today, but I think it's shite so I've not deemed it worthy of publishing here. If there's sufficient demand, however, I will do so.
