Some times it is not luck, but how often you put your hand out and keep getting assistance.
Some clubs have made a living off it. Not saying Geelong did, but a few others have.
thats not luck.
Its a rigged game.
We accept that its rigged to even out the comp...
but not to favour vested interests, 'old guard", "rich clubs", "VFL" etc

We have never ever been offered the hand outs that the Melbourne based club that are financially in the poo. Never been offered extra selections because we have performed badly. In fact when the Golden Greek and his Batman side kick were in charge, they would come to Fremantle and threaten the club with being removed if they didn't start top perform.
They never offered support when the club were $8mil in the red.The club had to do it themselves as a group.
The Road Kill Roos have been a basket case since before the Eagles and Bears went in to help save them. They have a very ordinary membership, a very ordinary team to boot. The AFL force feed them ,but nothing changes.
Melbourne FC were in dire straights for over 20 years, no money, no players. The club badly run. The AFL step in employ a CEO for them The employ a coach, Paul Roos, all funded by the AFL.
Check out the history of how the VFL/AFL have molly coddled many of theMelbourne based clubs over the Years.
If we were offered the same benefits it would be nice. But please don't hold your breath waiting.
It is till the VFL supporting the Melbourne based clubs.
I'm aware of our history but I'm not blaming our lack of success on that we didn't get handouts from the AFL. Plenty of other non-Victorian clubs have a better performance history than we do and they each have advantages and disadvantages, and so do we.

There are other things we can do to improve ourselves, and while there was a period we struggled financially I don't see it having a relevant impact right now. It took us forever to make changes to our s/c, we fumble about strategic support for the coach and replacing assistant coaches, we have questionable decision making about big trades and we routinely lose best 22 players every trade period, we have lost on-field momentum including the ability to be dominant on our home ground, we could build (but apparently haven't built) the kind of off-contract advantages for our players that core players at clubs such as Sydney, Geelong or WC enjoy; Gee there's some very nice farming land south of Perth. Lots of pubs around Fremantle. Spud Shed franchises?

They'll be a lot of trading draft night for sure.

I'm not sure there's actually too much incentive to trade picks now except in certain circumstances (i.e. a team has pick 40 they won't use and trade it out for a future pick).

I mentioned this ages ago and others tried to tell me I was wrong. Sharp as a delisted player can bypass the drafts and be available via SSP.

Going off a couple of posters saying he will be at Freo next year and claiming to know family members, Freo decided to go this route.

Freo have never selected a DFA before. They went that route with Oscar McDonald under a new rule that enabled him to be selected straight from VFL. Otherwise like Wagner we would have tried to select him late in the ND. Sharp after playing only VFL last year and having returned to WA (prior to going on holidays) after the season had something in place with Freo. Pretty much confirmed by Ryan Daniels a couple of weeks ago. As soon as able (ie with AFL approval) he can start training with Freo (prob after the drafts on 22 Nov). Then around the first week of Dec Freo can add him to the rookie list via SSP.

We will go into the ND looking to add three players. We will go in RD with 2 selections - question is whether we hold one back for an additional SSP/MSD selection.

Hardman I reckon will be of interest to Freo if he slides. Same goes for Collard.

Prob a couple of others we have our eye on in the first 25.

No they didn't

He wasn't delisted at the original time of you saying that, if GC never delisted him then he wouldn't be able to bypass, he would have had to go through the draft.

Luckily for us, GC delisted him and made it easier, altho he now has lifetime DFA

This wasn't a new rule, we could have taken Wagner as a DFA last year if we wanted to, we were likely seeing who was left on the board and decided we rated Wags the highest

I don’t know who it was but a few went against what I said.

Yeah , near on positive Hardeman is the player we will be targeting if he slides to /with most likely norths teens picks via a trade of one of our futures.

Seems to tick all our boxes

Has 2 fold effect as well in basically replacing young on the hbf.

Barring him being off the board before we can facilitate a trade up reckon your right and that collard then becomes our next target

He looks great and happy to grab him, but if we don't, I think we can cover Young regardless. They don't have Young's skill set but Worner and Hughes are hbf-ers.

I'll add, Walker needs to come back in and I am unconvinced Longmuir will play Chapman on the wing. But if he does then Aish, NOD, and perhaps Johnson could find time in defence. Stanley is also a wild card for us; looking forward to his preseason.

I’m not convinced, I’m not sure his foot skills would replace Young’s. Wilson I like ahead of Hardeman and Bodie Ryan would be a good get at our late picks.

Hardeman was captain of the state 18's.
Dom Sheed was captain of the under 18's back in the day.
Hardeman would be a good get in what is a shitshow for recruits to Freo this draft. Really f'd up with our list mgt imo
