Walker has the potential to be the best back pocket in the game. A niche but useful thing to have. Blokes with the athletic traits to blanket smalls with actual offensive and defensive ability don't grow on trees.
Roger 2.0

Walker to me feels like the sort of player who will be diligent in his role down back, not straying out of position and years into his career a rare occurrence of injury to his direct opponent and one of our small forwards means he gets shifted forward for half a game, kicking four goals in a display you'd expect from one of the guys he shuts down... he is a rare physical talent.

I have only been to training twice this year. Both times for about 30 minutes. However I did park near the rehab group.
Walker is moving beautifully. They had him doing some side movement drills, he was running freely and he has has put on some muscle.
I went to an event after one of our games near the end of the season and was told his knee was not as bad as it could have been (O'Meara being a near worst-case example). Even then they were expecting him to make a full recovery and thinking it shouldn't affect him too much long term.

Walker obviously very highly rated by coaches just based on where he was in doig before injury.

But surely you wait a little bit to see how he recovers from his knee before comitting long term?

Yeah I think the club is conscious that ‘waiting it out’ cost us Logue and Shultz as the manager starts looking around quite early these days

Jeez posters are talking like he snapped his leg in five places. It was a patella injury not an ACL or PCL. Plenty of vision of him running around doing speed and agility running.
patella tendon rupture is statistically worse than PCL for return to elite sport, and on about a par with ACL.

he is a funny one because he played all his junior at Kardi as a HB that received/won the ball, and then just bolted and broke lines delivering it forward of centre and racking up massive metres gained. Irrespective of JLo claiming to want to have players "playing to their natural instinct" Walker plays a lockdown back pocket role and doesn't seem confident to take any run forward and appears to second guess himself, often slows down (and then caught) as if he is not sure if he should, though it is natural instinct for him. He's got the closing speed that other's don't have needed for the lock down role, but I worry that his natural game is being limited and not sure that's a good thing as I agree with you, he could be a lot more than just a lock down defender (we've had Broughton and Clancy playing that). Personally I think with Young moved into the midfield, Walker should be used more as an option to take the ball out of the backline on the rebound, particularly when Ryan's kick outs to the wings are not working against a better marking opp.

Agree. My wish is for Walker and Clark to really take the game on more. Walker in particular is very good at lowering his eyes when running with the ball and hitting up a leading player. i appreciate , of course, that they have to defend first but maybe need to take a few more risks.

Interesting considering that he enters next year without a contract for 2025, if he’s that rock solid staying, why hasn’t he signed yet?
Sounds similar to Darcy. Could just be the finer details in what will end up being a long term deal. I hope Logan re-signs. I don’t rate him for the price we’d have to pay to get him.

As Snuff said, we have one of the best ITKs on bigfooty in Carnthedockers. Because he is always dead on the money doesn't mean other board ITKs are.

I’m in the camp that would like get McDonald across to Freo. I did read the other day a quote from Cal Twomey stating he felt McDonald would re-sign. I posted this in the thread and yes there were quite a few on here that were very pleased about that.

To me we have been courting McDonald for some time and feel we are a good chance. We have also loaded ourselves up with first round picks. If we miss McDonald I’m sure we have some other trade options lined up to pursue. While he remains unsigned (as is the case with our own Darcy) we are a chance for sure.

Sydney is a strange market, it almost seems they need to land “the best in the league” to generate local excitement. The idea of drafting and developing a solid 50 goal a year forward doesn’t have the same pull as “former #1 draft pick becomes the highest paid player in the league” headline possibilities.
Which is great for us as it leaves the door open to swoop in on said 50 goal a year forward for under 1mil per season and a couple of firsts they need to trade for JUH.
Having said all of that, I love Treacy so am only interested if Jackson becomes a full time mid and we run with Amiss, Treacy and McDonald as talls who can get up the ground to provide link up from D50.
