1.6 in a side that’s 3-8. You’d take that in a heartbeat
He's also playing in a midfield that get's beaten more often than not this year too. If we could trade for him using the two saints picks (2nd and 4th rounders) I'd do that in a heartbeat as we could then add two small forwards and a wing with our three first round draft picks

Wrong draft. It was the 2002 draft, which was absolutely shocking after the top 2.

They only traded pick 4, but then Carlton lost two picks due to salary cap cheating.

Salopek, McVeigh were good solid players. Schultz was good at his 2nd club. Not the worst trade if they only gave up pick 4.

That 2002 draft was a bit underwhelming for sure.

Nothing has changed my mind from the beginning and that is Warner ain’t going anywhere ant the end of 2024. Under contract and Sydney won’t let him go - regardless of whether do or don’t win GF. Think back to Paperley when he wanted to go to Carlton. Negotiations were very difficult and they held him to contact. They also did the same with was it Ryan O’Keffe all those ears ago.

I doubt three picks in the teens would get them even mildly interested in bringing the matter to discussion.

Cameron and Leon Baker are realistic options to request trades to Perth for various reasons. I reckon we’d be right into Cameron. Might result in Walters being tapped on the shoulder and paid out a year early.

If Warner says he's homesick and will be living in WA next year he paints them into a corner and as long as our offer is reasonable it probably gets done.

Let's be real, "homesick" is very rarely an actual thing outside of one very obvious example I'd rather not dive into today for clear reasons. Warner wouldn't be homesick (especially since his brother plays for the same team) but he might want to play his footy for his career instead. Doesn't seem the sort to struggle if he doesn't get what he wants.

Sydney probably do tell him not going to happen, I wouldn't want us trading him if I was in there situation unless we won a flag then I wouldn't care as much

That's fair. Does he have a Perth born GF? Could use that excuse like Brad Hill, etc.

We've had some ok late career ones. Modra, Farmer, Bell. Even with JOM, for me the question is more about timing than about him: he's borderline and I think we should be preferencing development opportunities.

We've shot ourselves in the foot (yeah, often the foot) when we've thought we can take an injury prone one and expected we could magic it out of him.
Big difference between JOM and Cameron.
We are crying out for a matchwinner and Cameron in our forward line gives us a whole new dynamic.
Perfect for our list when we have probably the worst set of small forwards in the comp.
95% chance that Delean or Simpson or those types never reach the levels Cameron has in his career.
We have to do it if the opportunity arises

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but did we trade the wrong ruckman between meek and darcy

No and anyone who says otherwise is a moron.

Meek is hardly a veterin at 26.
On the other hand Darcy’s body appears to be well and truly in the veterin stage.
No doubt Darcy is the superior player. But present indications are that Meek is more likely to be available when required and being basically a backup to the Jackson/Treacy combo we might not be struggling to solve the Jackson riddle. There’s always next season though - trade Darcy, gives us a lot of salary cap and use the money wisely .
