That’s a bit of a stretch. If Sturt = Bolton, and he struggles to make the side, we are set to win 5 flags on the trot.
Ooooo that'd be nice.

Bolton is absolutely capable of a lot more than Sturt, however as others pointed out, he’s not very consistent, if the metric being used is goals scored for a small/medium forward, technically Sturt delivers just as much as Bolton does.

Bolton goes at 1.2 goals a game…

You know who goes at 1.1 goals a game? Lachie Schultz…

Didn’t hear anyone running the line that Lachie was worth two top ten picks.

Bolton looks flashie and all but he stinks it up a fair bit too.

And to be franks if we’re using multiple picks on a small forward (Baker aside) I’d like a few more goals

That 1.2 goals includes several years early in his career when he was a rookie trying to get up to speed in a difficult position and was having minimal involvement.

And Bolton now plays a lot of time as a midfielder who drifts forward. Look at his disposals and clearance numbers, which then leads to more score involvements. Bolton basically kicks more goals playing large midfield minutes than Schultz kicks playing permanently from the forward line. He blows Schultz away on every metric except tackles.

If Bolton played as primarily a small forward (which he could in our side with our midfield stacked), he would be averaging 2+ goals per game and in the conversation for the best small forward in the competition. And we could put him in for bursts as a midfielder where he can genuinely play as well.

It's mind boggling people are trying to talk Bolton down. How we make room for him with salary cap and draft picks is another thing, but he is a genuine superstar and I struggle to think of anyone who would be a better fit for our side apart from Warner. And Rozee, but that's not going to happen.

I know all the talk is about who we can get (which is great) but I’m a bit worried about Andy Brayshaw. He is exactly what StK need and he would reunite with Ross. He is out of contract end of next year. I’d be very surprised to see him leave given his WA roots and the way we are going. But it looks like Serong has jumped him as the next captain and talk in the media in Vic about the Saints going hard for him. Anyone know how he got on with Ross?

Players contracts are always an issue, but I don't think your scenario is overly realistic. And I can't see the Saints being a drawcard either.

I agree with all of this but Bolton has such variability in his game. He consistently demonstrates the ability to do the impossible one week then the inability to to do the simple the next week.

With us being who we are I worry that we will see more of the perplexing than the sublime from Bolton but that's might be ingrained bias from years of following this club.

I honestly can't see how you could have watched how Andy behave since the night he was drafted and come to this conclusion.

He's as Freo as Pav, Fyfe, Mundy, Sandi etc.

There was no conclusion I agree with what you say, but it still doesn’t stop me worrying until he actually re-signs. His misses is from Vic and it’s been reported clubs (particularly StK) are going for him. People that think every player in the comp will join us, but there is zero chance we will lose someone like Brayshaw are just putting their heads in the sand. No body thought Lachie would leave until he did. I just want Brayshaw’s signature

Actually there were rumours on here very early last year that Schultz wanted out

Sorry Sam Sturt isn’t even in the same hemisphere as Shai Bolton.

But if you look at Boltons variability based on last year it goes from 30+ disposals and 3 goals to 12 disposals and 1 goal. His worst is pretty much our small forwards best

It's also a case where the downside just isn't that big a deal for us.
A) We can carry a disappearing act every now and then with how much cake we have, the game winning performances is something we don't have enough of.
B) There'll be less disappearing in a good team anyway.

I really don't think there is anything to this anyway and would really keen to know where Nepo Baby #1 got it from.

That's reassuring. I'm basing my thoughts on remembering him kicking zero four with some easy shots but you've convinced me to investigate the actual numbers.

I don't think you understand his personality if you think he is any chance to leave.
