Well its been a great start to the year for our prospects of getting the most out of 2023 trades. Collingwood are 0-2 and St Kilda just lost their first game by a point. St Kilda play Collingwood next round so one way or another one of those teams will loose again. Obviously I don't have much belief that Port Could loose to West Coast tomorrow but Im more hopeful they'll loose the week after coming of a bye.

I enjoy a good death ride x3

It's not just Mcdonald vs Treacy.

Treacy plus 2 first round picks and cap space vs Mcdonald add change from the Swans and Possible Treacy trade, most likely 2 third round picks.
And we'll still need to upgrade that second KPF and no closer to a premiership.

We're taking 22 year old who'd be in his prime in 2-3 years and will have ten years with us but people are more interested in being scared of previous trades. He's exactly what we need.

I'm not against Logan, but he's not "exactly what we need".

A genuine contested marking presence for down the line would being very useful and he hasn't shown that yet.

Surely we aren’t seriously considering a 2 player raid.

The giga-chad move is to go hard for Gulden to make it look like we want Logan, drive both their prices up and then we throw the kitchen sink at Warner in the 4D chess move that we planned from the beginning... or something.

Don’t forget they are also trying to lure JUH at reportedly 1+ mil per year over a very long contract. If we can force them to over commit on McDonald and Gulden, Warner could slip through without them being able to match our offer from a $$$ perspective.

If this LMac deal goes through I for one would really like to see Treacy behind the ball.
His aggression would be better utilized, would raz up other teams forwards. And he’s got a very tidy field kick.
Offers some ruck relief too.
Great asset to have.
So much growth still left in him

He would do some damage accross half back

Be interesting to see how Cox goes tomorrow.

I have a feeling McDonald might go alright down back and it might free up Cox to play as swingman longer term.

Might take the pressure off throwing the kitchen sink for McDonald and either allow us to have a good crack at Warner or hit the draft up.

I also wouldn’t be against the idea of trading up the draft this year and going for someone really really elite (O’Sullivan or something) to really polish off the side.

I get your point but it’s the price we will pay that bothers me. He’s not an AA level potential player and is a couple of tiers behind several players who I expect to be the games leading key forwards for the next 6 years (our flag window).
Ben King
Max King
Amiss
JUH
Naughton
Curnow
Mackay
Allan
Larkey

Even slightly older guys like Hogan and Jez Cameron

Will all be well ahead of Logan in my view, every year between now and 2030.
I’d settle for one first rounder at about 10-12 range.
not two or more.

I posted the career stats for JUH and McDonald and they're nearly identical..not sure how JUH is so much better when statically speaking hes about par.

McDonald could absolutely be AA one day. Watched him against Collingwood and he has the smarts. Knows where to run and how to create space.

But currently I wouldnt give up 3 firsts for him.

Three firsts is virtually unprecedented for any player in AFL history…

Let’s remember that the Jeremy Cameron trade had two second rounders coming back the other way. And they were mostly sh** first rounders.

I'm aware of that.

I wouldn't give up 3 firsts and i dont think Sydney would ask for all 3.

I want to see a bigger sample size before making a call on what Logan's ceiling is. Remember that some key forwards do bloom late. My main concern is that he hasn't shown enough to be a good contested mark which is what JLo's gameplan is reliant on. Also the goals where he was standing by himself in the goal square only works with fast ball movement (imo) and not the slow and controlled style we play.

It's probably a little unfair to compare Ollie Dempsey's game last night to where Sturt is right now... but just maybe we should be looking to poach some of Geelongs' development staff. Or at the very least their IP.

Hopefully Sam comes in and has another run of impactful games, a la '23, before too long.

But the Cats seem to find diamonds out of nowhere (or from the cabinet of others) and never seen to lose them.

Who falls out of our midfield- already stacked but a work in progress and unproven…
Erasmus has gotta go, but he is at present a sub…trade value, extremely low - a pick in the 25-40 range
Fyfe - TBA his durability.

I wanted Warner in his draft year, and I couldn’t believe he went so late at 39 - admittedly a midfielders draft as most are where we got Serong and Young early and got seduced by the Henry bid and made an early play.
The ‘Chad’ is that line breaking, goal kicking mid that we desperately need.

It appears we have an abundance of riches, but that can change quickly.
Fyfe has how long? Brodie could be done, JOM is a part time mid.
Add Cooper, but we all know how fast it can fall away, 2023?
As for Erasmus I’d rather keep him and send Will to WC.
He is exactly the player they need and it would be beneficial for both.
Also doesn’t help another team fighting us to get back into the 8.

I agree that we shouldn't be scared because of past trades.

They're is a cost to getting Logan, we have other holes and you can win a flag without 2 star Key Forwards.

I'm with the fine with a McDonald trade but I think there are a few ways to improve our team,

I’ve already told you! I know friends of his family, he wants to come back to Perth. My understanding is his preference is west coast, because that’s who he supported.

Boooooo!

If he wants to come home put the 4 firsts we have access to in front of Sydney for Warner and McDonald
