Seems to lack the physical approach to the contest I like to see from the bigger guys. Mind you, I've watched like two YouTube clips of him so it's a really limited view.
According to reports, the club are big big fans of Nicholls.

Based upon the number of picks Twoomey believes each club will take:

2024 Telstra AFL Draft Combine List

Collingwood: 45, 48, 53, 61, 78
Essendon: 37, 39, 43, 60, 91, 97

Geelong: 42, 50, 70, 80
Gold Coast: 57, 90, 96
Greater Western Sydney: 36, 93, 98
Hawthorn: 35, 65, 71
Melbourne: 75
North Melbourne: 54, 72, 82
Port Adelaide: 33, 38, 94
Richmond: 28, 89
St Kilda: 32, 51, 76, 84

West Coast: 30, 44, 68, 73, 83, 88
Western Bulldogs: 29, 31, 79, 86, 92

RED picks unlikely to be taken.
If the lions are going to pass on majority of their picks, i hope they return the favour and trade us one of the late 40s pick they plan on passing .
We would send 53 and 61 their way, they send us 49.

For those interested here’s a recent phantom draft including late picks. Gives some indication of players who likely gone before our pick and which clubs taking them. Has hawks taking sims at 35. (Guesses of course)

53 and 61 were Brisbane's picks so I don't believe we can trade them back to them.
I also don't think it realy matters

Pick 45 = Collingwood
Pick 46 = Brisbane (Re draft Darragh Joyce)
Pick 47 = Brisbane (Re draft Darcy Craven)
Pick 48 = Collingwood
Pick 49 = Brisbane (in theory this is a pass)
Pick 50 = Geelong
Pick 51 = St Kilda
Pick 52 = Sydney
Pick 53 = Collingwood

Therefore the only pick that could be moved in front of live picks is Pick 53 which was Brisbane's

Would our pick at 49 be any different to 53. Unlikely
according to the trade tracker
pick 45 - pies
pick 46 -Lions
Pick 47 - Lions
Pick 48 - pies
pick 49 - lions

only saints, swans and geelong stand between pick 49 and 53

I think Nichols looks a good defence prospect. Not so much as a forward.
55. Geelong - Charlie Nicholls
Central District/South Australia
FWD, 197cm

A project key position player for the Cats to develop, Nicholls is long and rangy and deceptively quick off the mark. He kicks goals almost exclusively from lead-ups and needs to add size to become a contested marking threat. Nicholls has suitors in the Pies and Lions at this stage as well.

Seems to be Ben brownish. As a forward not suited to todays game

Aren't darrah and joyce expected to be on the rookie list and not the senior list ? So 46 and 47 could be live selections.

Just checked and yes you are correct.

"The club has also advised mid-season draftee Darcy Craven and defender Darragh Joyce of its intention to re-select them through the rookie draft for the 2025 season."

We are going to have competition from the lions for a key fwd in our picks range.
The Lions have been linked to talls including Charlie Nicholls and Floyd Burmeister with their later picks, along with small forward Rhys Unwin. Brisbane has also nominated several academy prospects, with 194cm key forward Ty Gallop in the mix to be taken as a Category B rookie.

I think it's sort of flipped in terms of which end to play talls. You want the physical brutes providing a contest up forward and the good movers covering off more space in defence. Obviously the very cream like Curnow and Cameron are another story again.

Good point that Lions have 2 Picks between Our 1st and 2nd Pick so they could be looking go tall as well

We get 1st pick but 2 Talls could before the 2nd Pick

I'd be backing in Hine well ahead of Leppitsch when it comes to U18 talent identification.

Leppitsch doesn't have a history in recruitment and is in his first year as our full time list manager.
Leppitsch would be more across list structure and list needs. He would be telling Hine "we need this type of player," not "we need this player."

I know people are desperate but I think we need to temper our expectations when it comes to any KPF prospects taken in our selection range.

Sure it's not impossible to find the next Nick Larkey but if you were to count up all the KPF prospects taken outside say the top 15 over the last decade we'd see how improbable it is to find such a diamond in the rough.

As it is it was sheer dumb luck more than excellent recruitment and we know this because in no way would any recruiter risk 72 selections taking place before calling his name if they knew what they had in Larkey.

In reality we probably stand a better chance of landing a decent KPD in our range more than a KPF.

It's been a couple of years since I've updated my deep dive on the recruitment history of Hine (who I'm a fan of) but our success rate when it comes to the 3rd round wasn't great reading if I recall (though pretty much on par with 2nd). How it compares to other recruiters I do not know.

List was originally compiled up until the 2022 mid season rookie draft .

We really needed an earlier bid for Ashcroft to wipe out those picks between ours. Not just for drafting but I think we'll both be in competition to trade up or out into next year. And if a bid comes for Camporeale or Cochrane early enough, they're in a slightly better position to trade up and probably out as you'd think we'll use our first pick.
