They were talking about him being well ahead of his peers and that stayed that way until his draft year.
Just like there was talk of Nick at 10 and onwards.
When Cam came it heated up again with Richmond piping up to try convince the 3rd most talented brother to pick them...
You can think what you want but I remember posting and reading in threads about Travis well out from his draft.
Was also at the time of draft spoken of as a top 5 or so pick had he not been in FS discussions.
He was a genuine Gun junior and also elite player for us for many years.
There is some truth to it, I believe, with Cam’s recruitment especially. I reckon maybe at 13/14 Trav was tagged as a gun. A big pies fan in the media who I knew told me we did not want to risk giving Richmond a sniff so we’ were happy to take all the Clokes we could.
Think a lot of people are hoping that happens

You are living in a phantasy land if you believe Travis Cloke wasn't an elite junior and entered his draft year as one of the best talents.
I find it pretty funny it is even being suggested.
It'd be like in 20 years saying they had no idea Nick Daicos was going to be any good and didn't rate him. Laughable.
Fact is the rules around FS allowed us and Geelong (Hawkins draft) to get a steal on them both were universally rated very high.

Either way hope he gets another crack at it. Also believe not having same spotlight pressure on him would help his footy.

I didn't say anything of the sort.
Jason was a highly rated prospect - we thought we had the next Glen Archer. There was no mention of Travis at the time because he was 10.
Cam was speculative. There was mention of Trav at the time.

Depends on whether there was a player we would have taken in the ND available if we’d had the list spot.
When Jason was drafted in 2000 I think Trav was 13 and on the radar to some extent. The interesting thing for me was that they got them at all. We were lucky Richmond were a basket case about then as I always considered David as much more of a Richmond man than a pies man.

Yes he was, but the narrative that we only drafted Jason to get Travis is complete bullshit. The club was heavily into Jason well before Travis played competitive football!!!

This is true. Jason was a very good footballer in his own right. Probably underrated in the shade of how good Trav became. And also because of the whole being suspended for the gf thing
That would make it a perfect draft for us imo
