Tbh I'd be shocked if North don't bid at 2. I can understand Richmond wanting to reserve the "prestige" of the number one pick for their own player and all the benefits, promotion etc that goes with it.Richmond wont. North unsure, but carlton at pick 3 prob bids
Pretty sure we’re not allowed to trade 66 back to Brisbane, they put a stop to that after Sydney did it when the points system came in.So we hold the picks for Brisbane and hand them over on draft night.
Eg: Pick swap Brisbane #34 (542 points) traded for Collingwoods #52 (246 points) + #55 (207 points) + #60 (146 points) + #66 (80 points) (total 669 points)
We then use #34 and 2 extra picks later in the draft.
Plus the later picks come in more increasing points and pick 34 goes out more to about pick 38. Making the points difference worth more to Brisbane.
Yeah. It's hard to know what picks end up getting used for matching. I think there will be a fair bit of shifting about still - particularly 39-43 being targeted.Forgot about Kako.
Guess that GWS deal is okay. Although it's nothing special points wise it enables them to trade #37 for more picks.
We could beat that Geelong deal fairly easily for #37 and Geelong don't have any more points after that. They only have #45, #57 and #75. They may be happier to keep #45 and #57 because #37 will only be a few picks before #45. After GC, Essendon, Brisbanes picks (#39, 40, 41, 42, 43) are all eaten up.
I also feel that after Father/Son/Academy selections I don't think there would be to much difference between Geelongs #45 and our #52. I also don't think Brisbane could split pick #45 that easily if Brisbane picked it up. It's worth 347 points. Which if you swap it for a couple of picks in the mid 50's you will be luckly to get an extra 20-40 points.
To be honest I don't think there would be much difference between an end of draft pick and our #66 or even #60 for that matter. If we gave away all our picks for 1 our last 2 picks would probably be very close to those 2 picks anyway.
Anyway maybe something interesting happens or maybe not but why help Brisbane out by picking up #66 unless they help us in return.
Essendon’s list team will spend a full day this week war-gaming the draft prospects they would be prepared to hand over a future first-rounder to secure as they ponder trading back into the 2024 draft.
Essendon is expected to a bid for Next Generation Academy small-forward Isaac Kako in next week’s draft as long as as rival bids for him come for him close to where he falls in their established draft order.
Yet the Herald Sun reported last week the Dons will likely only offer up that future first-rounder if a player in their top 10 on their draft board tumbles down the order, where the Dons could strike to secure a second player in the top 20 of the draft.
Essendon traded away its No.9 draft pick for the Demons’ future first-rounder and more 2024 points for Kako, aware that rival clubs would likely make the Dons use that pick to match a bid for Kako.
Clubs across the industry remember the example of Gold Coast academy player Jack Bowes, who Sydney bid on at pick 10 to ensure the Suns used an early pick.PLAYERCARDSTART12Jack Bowes

Now that the Dons do not have a top 10 pick Kako could slide down the draft order but the club would still feel justified in trading out that selection.
Essendon plans to take four selections in the national draft and will have room for a rookie pick and two summer rookie slots, likely to trial an experienced player and a young player who misses the national draft.
Yeah that's the rule. Don't know if it's only in-draft or throughout the trade period.Or the same picks used in both trades maybe.
A pick can’t be traded out and then traded directly back to the original club. Period.Yeah that's the rule. Don't know if it's only in-draft or throughout the trade period.
I doubt we would have done it unless we've agreed on a better pick back after Ashcroft bid matching.Forgot about Kako.

Bugger, I was hoping for Clancy Dennis. Any further updates on KennedyUnfortunately can't report much for you lot, saw the big kahuna tonight and didn't give me a lot. Just going off the lack of info all I can say is Id guess whoever ur after isn't from WA.
I guess that might apply to #60 as well. But I'm not sure if that rule only applies to trades on draft night. You might be able to do it at other times.Pretty sure we’re not allowed to trade 66 back to Brisbane, they put a stop to that after Sydney did it when the points system came in.
Well #66 is useless to us at the moment unless we trade at least 2 picks for a single pick. Because of that I assume we have something ready for draft night that will help both us and Brisbane.Yeah. It's hard to know what picks end up getting used for matching. I think there will be a fair bit of shifting about still - particularly 39-43 being targeted.
I think we've probably got a deal lined up with Brisbane, but in terms of your last line, that trade was a very minor bottom scraping benefit to both clubs, which is possibly all it was -
For us - 58 and 59 are likely to disappear in matching, so 60 likely to replace 58 - giving us 66 as a freeby which may be of small benefit
For them - moved their last pick from 60 to 58 so a few extra points taken into the draft
Haven't seen him, he's finishing off examsBugger, I was hoping for Clancy Dennis. Any further updates on Kennedy
Im expecting 52 and 55 for 43.Well #66 is useless to us at the moment unless we trade at least 2 picks for a single pick. Because of that I assume we have something ready for draft night that will help both us and Brisbane.
That’s what I thought. Don’t think we have enough points to entice anybody to do anything. We can't use future picks even if we wanted to. But it was more about using what we have to entice someone that needs points.
Fck that I want DennisUnfortunately can't report much for you lot, saw the big kahuna tonight and didn't give me a lot. Just going off the lack of info all I can say is Id guess whoever ur after isn't from WA.
Not saying it won't happen but I'd imagine it's unlikely given that's his backyard, normally mentions the WA boys a fair bit.Fck that I want Dennis
The rule was posted on this thread earlier and seemed pretty cut and dry. There was no caveat about when you could do it. It simply said that a draft pick traded by a club to another can not be traded directly back to that club afterwards, ie. it would have to pass back through a second club to return to the lions.I guess that might apply to #60 as well. But I'm not sure if that rule only applies to trades on draft night. You might be able to do it at other times.
What rule was posted earlier? Where was it linked to from an official source that wasn't just someone saying it confidently? The rule was posted on this thread earlier and seemed pretty cut and dry.
A very good scenario for us. I also have a feeling that the recruiting team would already know the players they want for our picks in the 50's, which will come down a few. It's our first pick that probably has a list of 4 or 5 that we're interested in and we might need to move up a few spots. Generally, clubs know where players will go and at what pick. I know that Luke Kennedy is still high up on our list. It might be him we're trying to get and then a tall or 2. Not sure
The sleeper in this year's AFL Draft who could be a gun midfielder down the road
“He’s going to get picked in the 40s or 50s I think and he’s going to end up being a really good player.”www.sen.com.au
“I will have to go into my own region (to answer this), but I have a player at the Dragons named Luke Kennedy who played senior footy as a 15-year-old, won the best and fairest in the seniors as a 16-year-old and just happened to be in a year where the top midfielders were Levi Ashcroft, Jagga Smith, Josh Smillie, Murphy Reid – they were probably preordained from 12-18 months ago,” Harding told SEN’s Sportsday.
“Luke has just played consistently great footy over the last two years. He was in the Vic Metro train-on squad that we had. Didn’t get a game unfortunately, but he has gone up against these top-end draft picks and done a really good job against them.
“He’s a classic six-foot midfielder who is clean on both sides. He’s going to get picked in the 40s or 50s, I think, and he’s going to end up being a really good player."

I want to put forward Luke Urquhart, his game against vic metro was really impressive. He played against a stacked midfield in Josh Smilie, Jagga Smith and Levi Ashcroft. He will be around our selections his kicking is pretty bad but can win the clearance and is a contested bull.
