No offence, but did you read what I actually wrote? He was playing in his debut VFL game, and he appeared to rush a couple of his kicks, which is understandable. I imagine he was full of adrenaline and probably overly concerned about not getting caught out by the quicker pace of the game at a new level.

I think his kicking is a strength. He has a range of kicks, can hit targets at all distances, punches through his kicks to get distance without getting under and loopy. He can be a bit lazy with his ball drop at times, which he'll need to work on, but overall his kicking is above average.
You’ll have to excuse my friend. We’re all still very critical about the shit we watched yesterday.

I honestly think another Key Forward is not going to solve our issues.

Our delivery inside 50 is deplorable. Too often we just bomb it to an out number or over our guys heads.

Need to find someone with composure and an ability to choose the right option.

I dont think it's just our mids fault. Watch our forwards, they make half effort leads then all stand around calling for the long bomb instead. On the flip side, the bulldogs forwards all worked for each other, blocking and making multiple leads. And they can do that because they've got three big bodied players who can take a contested mark. We've got one - larky - who's not even known for his contested marking. We've tried patching this up with state level players - Teaks, Pink, CJ, Sellers - and even put our most promising young KP back in the forward line to shore us up.

We need a quality KP forward desperately.
To me it all points to coaching and system. Maybe Clarko is or has used this year to see how that mid to forward connection is, how the forwards work with and without the ball, how we win clearance and what the mids are doing when going forward and also what they are doing when the ball is coming out?
I believe, and got to believe, that a lot of these issues can be fixed with a more structurd and disciplined game plan...we can't have that many dumb players!

While others are getting the headlines with their VFL exploits, perhaps no prospect has elevated their stock more than Jobe Shanahan. He closed out his stint with the Essendon VFL kicking a bag of five goals in the final contest, making it 11 in total across the three games. He consistently found space on the lead and converted from all distances and angles. He answered some critics by launching at contested marks, and scrapping at ground level. May well have pushed his name into first round calculations.

A few of us have pointed this out previously, considering the focus on mid sized marking players, it is borderline negligence to not have a forward system that is centered on movement. I would like to see Larkey out injured this week and see if that helps our forward setup, wouldn't surprise me if we get a similar kick to the Hawks when Buddy left.

Some pretty big efforts in the Coates League from potential draftees over the weekend. I haven't had a chance to watch any of the games, but statistically here are a few standouts:

Sandringham Vs Geelong

Sandringham

Levi Ashcroft - 46 disposals, 7 marks, 7 inside 50's.
Murphy Reid - 39 disposals, 6 marks, 5 inside 50's.
Luke Trainor - 33 disposals, 10 marks, kicked 0.2
Harry Armstrong - Kicked 1.3, 8 disposals, 2 marks
Nathanial Sulzberger - 22 disposals, 5 marks, 4 inside 50's

Geelong
Lachie Jacques - 27 disposals, 1 goal, 10 marks, 8 rebound 50's
River Stevens - 12 disposals, 5 marks, 4 inside 50's

Murray Vs Western Jets

Should be noted that the Jets were severely under manned and inexperienced in the backline

Murray
Ollie Warburton - 30 disposals, 7 rebound 50's, 4 marks
Josh Murphy - 16 disposals, kicked 6.4, 11 marks
Jack Whitlock - 17 disposals, kicked 5.3, 5 marks
Matt Whitlock - 14 disposals, kicked 4.1, 6 marks

Oakleigh Vs GWV Rebels

Oakleigh

Jagga Smith - 42 disposals, 7 marks, 5 inside 50's
Tom Gross - 26 disposals, 1 goal, 3 marks
Pat Retshcko - 19 disposals, 2 marks, 4 inside 50's.

GWV Rebels
Jack Ough - 29 disposals, 1 goal, 7 marks, 7 tackles
Sam Lalor - 22 disposals, 8 marks, 7 inside 50's
Ollie Hannaford - 14 disposals, kicked 5.1, 5 marks
Jonty Faull - 12 disposals, kicked 1.2, 3 marks.

Another strong VFL showing from Tobie Travaglia to follow up his solid debut last week. He appeared more confident this week, running off his man more proactively to get involved in transition ball movement and zoning off his man to fill gaps defensively and intercept the ball coming into D50. The only slight negative is the few times he turned the footy over in dangerous areas, perhaps rushed by the greater pace and intensity than he's used to.

Those Sandy and Murray sides seem pretty stacked.

We simply have to make Brisbane pay maximum value for their second Ashcroft.

Trainor stuffing the stat sheet.

I'm sure we will just like we did with Will.

In a perfect world we would draft Jack and Matt Whitlock and call it quits at the KPP!!
Sandy must have smashed Geelong - do you know how Ivif Ivisic played?i
Just do whatever you can to get 3 top 20 picks and draft three of the Whitlocks, Gerryn, Armstrong or Shanahan.

Not too many drafts have 5-6 KPP in the top 25. We simply can’t f*ck up this opportunity.

I'd be very happy with that. I do really like Armstong, Shanahan and Gerreyn as KP prospects though too.

Xavier Ivisic - 22 disposals, kicked 1 goal, 7 tackles and 7 marks.

Consider the stats of individual players you would've though Sandy would have smashed Geelong. But they only won 82 - 39. They were pretty wasteful in front of goal kicking 11.16

Who is Josh Murphy? Potential bolter?

Powerful 190cm mid sized forward, really strong overhead, but also very dangerous at ground level. Real impact player but can go missing for big chunks of games. Very similar to previous Murray draftee and North listed player Brayden George. Murphy had a couple of decent games for the allies during the champs too.

He is averaging 3.3 goals per game in the Coates League so the talent is obviously there.

For those in the know, what are academy FS picks looking like next year? Pies have a FS any others looking likely?

It will make it interesting with the new points system coming in and needing more points to match.

Looks like there will be a few at this early stage. I'm sure there are a few others that I've forgotten too.

Tom McGuane - Collingwood
Oscar Lonie - Collingwood
Kalani White- Melbourne
Lukas Eagleton - Western Bulldogs
Jagga Mooney - Geelong
Ben Francou - Port Adelaide
Gill Wakelin - Port Adelaide/Collingwood.

Ashcroft bid should come at 1. After watching his VFL game the other week I'm pretty certain he is number 1.

What about academy picks?

Our second next year might become very valuable.

I'm sure there will be more...but I reckon it the academy picks are going to be a mess next year. Gold Coast and Brisbane have a stack of draftable kids in their academy.

Uwland and Ah-Mu shaping as potential top 10 picks.

Zeke Uwland - GC A
Dylan Patterson - GC A
Jai Murray - GC A
Tarion Ah-Mu - Melbourne A
Daniel Annable - Bris A
Raphael Geesu - Bris A
Jack Harrison - Bris A
Basil Hart - Freo A
Ben Rongdit - Geelong A

My updated rankings for anyone that is interested.

I hoping we get Gerryn with our second if only to fall on Sam Darcy a few times.

Is it the haphazard way it comes in or the dysfunctional forward line? They'd both be pointing the finger at each other...

We need 2 key forwards. One to help now, and an 18yo to help when he's ready. Could the "now" option be Comben and/or Maley?

Another key defender wouldn't go astray and a couple of hard, fast, and skilfull mids.

Oh and a couple of zippy small forwards.

Not much to ask with picks 2, 22 and God knows what....

Yeah pick 22 or so will be interesting. Hope we don't give it up for an ageing mid from another team. I get that we need experience players bought in but 22 will be very important pick for our future i reckon.
