If Adelaide take Jagga off the board at #2

View attachment 2166451

I think our list needs a genuine forward/ruck to develop as well, i think O’Keefe besides his disappointing hamstring injury has been developing well for such a young player, but he looks more of a promising ruckman who can at times rest forward…
O'keefe does look promising. We do need another ruck/fwd but also desperately need a developing KPD aswell

We’ve needed one if not two drafted developing KPD’s over the past 6 years, imagine if we currently had a 22yro B22 partner for Weiters and our backline, as well as another a year or two currently developing in the reserves team…

Anyone we draft this high, in a great draft, should be a quality player for a long time.
If only such things were so certain.

Time will tell. I certainly regard it as deep, having options for most positions through at least two rounds. The growing hype around the top end is a bit out there, however, with Lombard projected outside top 5, I tend to be more inclined to believe it. The Tauru Train is just illogical, yet Armstrong, Shanahan and a couple of others are behind a heap of mids and role players, where traditionally the higher rated KPP are top 10 locks.
I'd say the KPPs in this draft are a little weaker than usual, and maybe we don't have that ultimate standout 3 or 4 most drafts can have, but otherwise it runs pretty deep, yup.

Hence my argument to trade down!

For those criticising Drapers disposal it is worth remembering hes been playing in the middle against men (for a rubbish team too).

His touches would be under significantly more pressure then the vic kids. Even Jagga, as good as his vfl games were, wasnt very tidy in those games. Much cleaner in under 18s. Makes a difference.
Draper's best disposal looks actually came in the SANFL, but he also got ragdolled there too.

l believe you are going to be disappointed we won't be trading pick 3
How does Smillie help us, we have Cripps.
How old is Cripps. We could park Smillie in the reserves for the next 2 seasons giving him a run when we need to rest Cripps. That's the thinking some people have. And in 2 years when Cripps is in the twilight of his career (aged 31ish), we would start playing Smillie more.

That’s a bizarre way to waste pick 3

If we trade pick 3 for two of Richmonds first round picks (pick 6 and say 11 if we can get it), I'd take Smillie at 11 if he was still there.

Majority of us here are able to do the bolded, so it will always be limited, but isn't that what we do when we watch our games and debate the value of a player?

I actually think the top 6 of this year is slightly down on talent compared to the last handful of drafts, so I believe there are limitations with that pointy end group

Will be very interesting to see who we select
So Harley Reid would be obvious number 1 this year too, as he was last year?

I am with Walshy HCJ. I watched the games that are being spoken of, back two years. I am an unabashed Draper fan and have always had him ahead of FOS as the two have been somewhat paralleling each other. Both had slowish returns from injury, but Draper built consistently until his stellar finish to the season against men.

I just see him (in short) as the best extractor in the group, as well as the best defensively (Jagga in that discussion)

If not for concerns raised over his back, I would be “screaming his praises”. I will not knock the other boys as there are some real talents there but only have Sid and Jagga as genuine mids. The other three in this discussion are IMO hybrid types who perhaps enter the terminology of “strikers” a little more.

I find it difficult to understand strong negative comments on any of the group, particularly Draper.

People are listing preferences
For Carlton.
Draper (injury dependent)
Smith
Lalor (will be gone)
O’Sullivan (I relate to questions on commitment to work, easy enough for a kid to turn around)
Langford (love aspects, and we could use his skills, but that yard of pace lacking excludes him to joining our mix)

In a nutshell.

So it's a choice between an 'over' developed speedster one with early serious health issues (Sid)?

Or an unprofessional one that doesn't work hard enough (FOS)?

Or a skinny undeveloped, but elusive one that might not impact round 1 (Jag)?

Or a slowy with good ball skills (Langford)?

I'd be happy with each of them in their own way, but lean towards FOS and Jag in the long haul for Carlton.
Sid's early health calls are my biggest alerts.

Yazz’s rumour from the trade period of O’Sullivan or Lalor was pretty definitive…he was on point with the pick 3 trade.
Worth noting that whatever happens the rumors of us being really into FOS at the time could still be true.

I doubt we put in a heap of work into who we would use a top 5 pick on prior to trade period. We may have changed our views after doing that work in the last month or so.

Sometimes these rumors from ITKs can be right at the time even if they dont end up being right.

Reid is an exception. Would be 1 in every draft

The 2-5 in this draft is no worse than 2-5 of last year

I beg to differ.

McKercher was more productive than any of the top 5 this year

Walter a tall, will take time but will be a very good player

Duursma, one of the best set of hands I'd seen in a while

Watson, we've seen the impact in juniors and the next level

Fair enough. The beauty of the draft is that people see things differently. Would agree with you big time on McKercher

Yeah I really dont get the logic why we dont have one developing and have a recycled Defender and a Swingman as support to Weiters. Critical we get someone soon, but time for Drafting has long passed, he needs help NOW.

Doubt that is happening, Austin has put in all this work, why we he backflip, would make no sense.

After moving from 12 and 14 to 3 - trading back to 6 and 11 (for example) isn't a backflip. It's an upgrade on both the original picks, and one that could potentially still get us a player we rate top 3.

That being said, I don't think Richmond do that particular deal. If it were to happen, I think it would only be if Richmond were prepared to gamble on FOS being our main target and Lalor being of less interest to us. They take FOS at 1, North take Tauru at 2 - leaves us next to pick with Lalor, Draper, Smith and Langford still available. Richmond clearly like Lalor, if we like all of Draper, Smith and Langford somewhat equally, then trading 3 and 38 for 6 and 18 or 20 is a good deal.

Tigers take Lalor at 3, Crows take Draper or Smith, Melbourne take Armstrong or Langford - leaves 1-2 of Draper/Smith/Langford for us at 6.

12 was never getting us one of the top tier mids - 6 does.

Speaking of which, I watched Langford's video package on Cal Twomey's form guide on.the AFL website....OMFG!!!!

He could step straight into a side as a 3rd marking forward his hands are so strong....and the fact that he's a 30 possession, goal and a half midfielder with a bullet left peg on him makes him a genuine weapon.

The fact that he can legitimately play in multiple positions at the highest level gets the nod from me. Reckon the kid is going to be a superstar.

He's shot to my favorite at #3 - but whoever does get him will be extremely happy....

Watching that documentary series "show me the money".

The agents seem to leak a fair bit of info on who likes who. Pass on whos showing interest and how many times clubs are interviewing certain players. I reckon thats where the likes of Cal get their best info. More reliable then asking the clubs.

Also, interesting how focused agents and players are on getting picked at the highest possible number and pushing that. Not as much focus on best fit (at least from whats being shown). Seems most guys just want to go as high as possible (aside from a few who'd prefer not move).

FOS in the championships last year was as good as Duursma, didn’t go on with it this year (with well documented disruptions) but is a point that leans into supporting that the 2-5 range is pretty similar across the two years.

FOS does have very good hands, along with Langford and Hynes in this draft

But wasn't really comparing player v player, more the collective

First time I watched his highlights I was sold on him.
Way to good to overlook. Not to mention he has worked hard for it and is serious about training.
Ticks every box IMO.

If we don't pick him, whoever gets him is going to have the 2025 rising star I reckon.
