Good way of putting it, but then you need to replace the players you trade with other role players.

If we trade any of Owies, Kennedy, Carrol and Young, we need AFL ready replacements
True DD, but looking at how these players have been used this year, how Voss rates them and how we need to play more of the younger players like Lord, Moir, Binns, Wilson etc. I think the replacements are already there.

Kennedy - not favoured in the midfield, stuffed around as sub, subbed off for TDK etc. Under appreciated by Voss. Kemp can play the 3rd forward role as well as MK.

Carroll - expect Lord to get more senior time and shown to be as capable if not more than Carroll.

Owies - we have a plethora of average to fair small forwards - Owies, Durdin, Motlop, Fogarty. Actually I’m hoping we get away from playing 3 or 4 of these types and hope our forward line will change next year with the likes Williams, Kemp, Moir and fewer of current small forwards.

Young - not sure why he wasn’t kept as back up. Can only assume we have an experienced key defender lined up to take his spot.

A hypothetical for the draft gurus...if we secure 12 from GC and have the list spots....come 12 there is a player on the board that the swans really like.....do you do 12 for 18&19 (and whatever other pick swaps) and if so who do you eye off with those picks?

Pick 12 - You're most likely getting your hands on a Lindsay/Travaglia/Berry/{insert sliding player}

Pick 18 and 19 - I am rolling the dice on a Hannaford/Dattoli/Davis
Maybe not as locked in high end but two bites at the cherry.
It would be very tempting as I think we're in a draft position to fill needs rather than pure talent. Those needs based selections can often drift in a draft.

Not the player, but traits

Hannaford Butter's like, Lindsay is more measured J Kelly like
I don't often get to watch much neutral footy, but they would be some good traits to have in the midfield. So many variables of course, but one ideal I'd like to see us move towards is complementary balance around the ground.

What's the highest pick you'd be comfortable taking Hannaford ?

Really even spread of talent at our pick, I'd be happy with either

I liked the look of Hannaford, where does he project to go in the draft? And how would draft watchers compare him to Lindsay ?

Well other than us nuffies you can only base his rating on Twomey and Rookie Me.

Twomey has him at 30.
Rookie Me unranked

Lindsay - I would say more outside run and carry like Arrow said, that Kelly/Gulden vibe top end, bottom end maybe a Massimo styled player.
Hannaford - Top end like Arrow Butters/Daniels - I think he could start as a high half forward and move into the midfield. Maybe even start playing like Harwick as a defender/forward hybrid.

Appreciate the insights. A part of me misses the dark days where the paradigm shifted to bring excited about new players coming through, and being pleased by glimpses of progress rather than wins.
Will be nice to watch Billy, Ollie, Cow, and a few others evolve. Even H O'K, who looked an incredible prospect to me the only time I watched him.

No KPD, no likey😏
Agree. The Campos help our running stocks and we have Lord, Binns etc in the wings on top of our injured engine room returning. I see Trainor has fallen in some rankings to our range. He’s the best defender in this pool, concussions cost him numerous weeks, but that’s because it’s a 21 day protocol for kids. Must consider. There’s also Tauru(?), Whitlock, Mraz and my other favourite O’Farrell we must look at initially. I’d also scour the VFL and consider some of those also. Most teams need KPD, we must invest ourselves.

Hannaford reminds me of bit of a more defensively minded Nathan Freeman, hopefully with better hammies. Surely he's been added to the combine? Unless he kills puppies for fun, that one has me stumped

Just me personally - Tauru and Travaglia

Lalor would be the dream but that won’t happen. I also like Trainor

How about you Walshy?
My dream haul would be Draper + Berry somehow but if we ended up with 11+12 my order of priority would be

Berry
Travaglia
Hotton
Shanahan
Trainor
Lindsay
Tauru

So realistically I'd like Berry + Travaglia in that range... but no guarantee either is available at those picks on the night.

I'm not as high on Lindsay as others, just as others aren't as high on Berry as I am. I have concerns over his long term role at AFL level, to me he doesn't look clean enough below his knees to play on ball sufficiently at AFL level, and at half back I'm not sure I'd want to invest pick 11/12 in a player who doesn't provide a heap in the air.

Travaglia for me unlocks Cowans ability to shift positions, I see both having scope to play on ball which id love to add for our sides versatility.

Berry just a plug in play small forward for a decade.
