Would happily take Smith if the explosive pair (Lalor & O'Sullivan) are gone.

But think it would be crazy for Richmond to start a rebuild and not take an ultra consistent ball winner who will be the core of their next generation

Worth remembering they're not exactly building a list from scratch. Already have Hopper, Taranto, Prestia and Ross - probably not a bad year to assemble some of the x-factor pieces who will take a few years to start impacting consistently, and they'll have top 5 picks for the next few seasons with which to look at immediate impact ball-winners.

I noticed when they asked all of the top kids who would be their #1 pick Smillie was pretty much the only one who nominated himself.

Is that part of why he's dropped down the draft order? A bit up himself / tone deaf?

More to do with his relatively quiet championships and finish to the year compared to his start I think.

I got the impression he’s the kind of person that would hold open an elevator door to continue with a conversation.

Pass.

A question for all the draft gurus..

Up to what pick can we still absorb a bid on Ben using only our later picks and holding onto 38?

30? Or less??

Cheers

My issue with FOS is around a lack of reliable 1 wood. What does he guarantee an afl side? Feel like he’s a jack of all trades, master of none.

Jagga I know what I will get. Sid is probably the same. Speed, ball winning and evasiveness.
FOS is a master of none?

Just run me through the better athletes than him who can kick 55.

Yep. None.

We can't hold 38 regardless of how many late picks we have if a bid comes before it. Next pick gets used first.

Rod Galt.

Could roost the ball now and then. Plus i once saw him lean on the goal post for at least half the game one day, AND break a jog at least twice.

Supreme athlete.

Best thing to come out of Moorabbin :) Good old 17.

Lalor looks physically very ready for AFL already. I imagine that will appeal to the tigs.

If north keep pick 2 (which I think is highly likely) who do they like with their pick?

This. I said this before but Langford could become the best player in the draft but it just makes no sense to give up so much to move up the draft, to then draft that type of player

That’s how I read it at as well. Pace is great but Cripps, Bont etc aren’t quick players at all

Only time will tell but I see a lot in the kid especially his poise and ability to step up when needed

My gut feel he is mentally very tough

All the experts, Kevin Sheehan, recruiters have Finn in the top couple and arguably no.1 but Bigfooty says otherwise and his gonna be a “flop” 🙄

Funny how we all see the game and players different

How many top 5’s in each draft have ended up being the Top 5 players that year and in the order selected?

Bont & Martin were Pick 4. Pendlebury 5

It’s never simple and clear. When drafted they are kids and it’s almost impossible to assess the upside and how they will handle AFL football

I have no doubt Austin is working on a few scenarios with 38 for draft night.

If a bid comes in he will look to trade it to a future pick and then use later points

He may also look to move it earlier with other things for an earlier pick

There is no way he will just be sitting and hoping no one will bid before 38

Since we moved to get Pick 3 and lost a pick I still believe our preference is to add another young player before adding Ben & Lucas Camporeale.

I’ve prepared this earlier for you :D

If Adelaide is keen on Draper as speculated, then p4 & f2 would be a the better swap option for us for p3 , however trading p4 & a f3 is more
feasible for Adelaide to sell their ferals.
It’s hypothetical but it may well turn out on draft night.
We’ll snare Smith or Langford one would think and have a shot at a decent KPD in the early thirties, after trading p38 & f2 or f3.

Yeah, but that was stupid. If it was Hawthorn or Geelong bidding on JSOS to keep us honest, then fair enough. But when it’s a known troll and SOS’ mate doing the bidding, it’s stupid.
It was a pick in the 50s. This doesn’t even make the top 100 of stupid moves the Dodo made and it’s barely worth holding a grudge over.

If we are willing to trade 3 for 4 that cheaply, they would know we have 0 intention of picking Draper and rightly call our bluff. We didn't sell the farm to trade up to pick 3 only to forgo our man for a pick in the 40s next year.

I also don't buy that Adelaide are desperate for Draper just because he's a local. Their best draft pick in the last 20 years was overlooking an SA boy (Ebert) for a young kid from Victoria (Dangerfield) with more upside but far less runs on the board at that stage.

A jump from 4 to 3 should be worth more than a F3
They would call out bluff if we are too greedy. So an F3 would be enough for them to burn to definitely secure Draper
