Very well put - this is pretty much why I have officially changed my vote to Jagga.Jagga just strikes me as one of the smartest footballers you could possibly get. His positioning, planning, reaction time, decision making and ability to evade opponents in a phone booth and dispose of the ball quickly is just unmatched.
You look at his physique and think it’s a weakness but he is just so damn difficult to lay a glove on that it barely matters. Opponents may break a few of his tackles in his early years which would be the only concern.
What I love is how he gets involved in transition footy. He creates overlap run and when working alongside someone like Walsh I
think it will only amplify their strengths, rather than be redundant.
I see him as someone who can enhance our ability to cleanly exit stoppages and be part of a unit that can improve the flow of our transition footy and thereby give Charlie, Harry and Ashton more opportunities for 1on1 contests.

I’d argue the opposite. Interesting how we can see attributes and have totally different ideas about them.I think decision making can be improved a lot easier, and a lot more naturally, than for example improving pace or agility. If anything, pace and agility are likely to decrease overtime with a bigger body and more knocks and niggles. I have Draper and Jagga 1 and 2 because of their all around attributes, I just think if we're comparing solely between Draper's speed and Jagga's decision making (which we're not), I think one of them is a lot harder to build - and I think that's the pace.
Would we ever take a speedy player with that sort of approach? No selection is without risk.so does Draper have the ability to change his game like Judd when / if his pace goes? Is he well rounded enough to still be effective if his burst doesn't create separation? I wouldn't know but they're concerns to me.
Jaggas skills in tight and evasion seem to translate better in more situations and for longer across a career
There's a vast difference between player improving in a deficient area and one having an innate instinctive natural ability of attracting the ball , creating play or changing the momentum of a game . Players that don't improve are usually de listed.I disagree. While some absolutely can't. I think it's naive to say that players can't improve their footy IQ and decision making and in fact I would say that is absolutely farcical.
Agree re: Bailey Smith, but seems like he had his mind set on Geelong (Cotton On cash too good too pass up). I don't think Houston would have helped us given our abundance at half back already and Perryman definitely wouldn't. I disagree about the impact that a talented kid can have. Look at Ashcroft, Daicos etc top-top level contributors as second year players and major contributors as first year players. That's who we're targeting at Pick #3.Agree our window of opportunity for another premiership is the next 2 to 3 years, thence my difficultly understanding why Austin chose to not chase Houston, Perryman or Bailey Smith, any of which would have strengthen our team immediately.
Our two principle deficiencies are over reliance on Weitering in defense and lack of leg speed in the circle,
an eighteen year old youngster won't impact anywhere as much as would a mature bodied quality AFL player.
Draper looks like he's in a hurry because he is moving fast. I disagree it will be an issue for him at AFL level.I’d argue the opposite. Interesting how we can see attributes and have totally different ideas about them.
There’s tried and tested ways to improve fitness outcomes such as speed/agility/power etc.
You can improve IQ, but it’s a far more random science. Do you put Sid with one of our other mids and hope it rubs off? Do you throw vision at him to the point that when he shuts his eyes he sees structures and setups?
For me what has Sid behind the other 3 in the “top 4” is that the others play like they have time (FOS maybe too much). Draper is always in a hurry, and at AFL level the pressure is magnified.
If it’s Draper vs Smith I’d back our ability to get a few 10ths shaved off Smiths sprint time
This is a wild take, that having another Walsh wouldn't be a great thing. While Jagga will probably be a better player I think he is too similar a player to Walsh and we need something different in our midfield mix.
Will Ashcroft and Nick Daicos are rare diamonds, exceptional footballers that will play over 300 games and end up great champions of our game.Agree re: Bailey Smith, but seems like he had his mind set on Geelong. Agree with you , Smith would be a great addition , obviously. This is a wild take, that having another Walsh wouldn't be a great thing.
Yes. You take a speedy player that can show and has other tricks. Not a one wood.Would we ever take a speedy player with that sort of approach? No selection is without risk.

Most kids taken at the pointy end of the draft still need 2-4 years to establish consistency
It's a bonus if they hit the ground running round 1, so always prefer to look at a player that still has a higher upside rather than immediate impact as a priority
Rowell v Jackson, Young, Flanders, Day, Pickett, Rivers, etc
That's why we have Pick #3 in a super draft. Will Ashcroft and Nick Daicos are rare diamonds, exceptional footballers that will play over 300 games and end up great champions of our game.
If Austin can unearth a player that comes close in this years cohort , build him a statue.

I don't think we should expect to NOT have a player who can impact straight away. The last few drawfts have shown there are players at the pointy end who can impact. Daicos, Aschroft, Sheezel, McKercher, Walsh, Harley Reid, Matt Rowell, Noah Anderson etc all impacted from day 1. I'm sure I have missed some. That's why we have Pick #3 in a super draft.
Not another statue......Will Ashcroft and Nick Daicos are rare diamonds, exceptional footballers that will play over 300 games and end up great champions of our game.

But it's also Rowell vs D. Stephens, McAsey, Henry, C. Stephens, Philp, Dow etc.
If we could retroactively draft the Will Day or Luke Jackson, great. But that's not how it works. You want to pick the player with more potential upside, that's fine, but as a general rule that's coming about because their current output is worse and you're banking on improvement that may or may not come to the degree you'd hope.
Erect 2 statues, if he's able to unearth another Daicos, Aschroft, or Sheezel in the upcomming draft. Not another statue......
I get what you are saying and I'm not suggesting picking a project type at the pointy end
If looking at 2-3 players at pick 3, each should have a number of strings to their bow and or relatively similar output at junior level, no matter if they are a balanced mid, or a mid/forward with the attributes we determine is needed
At that point, it shouldn't be which player is ready to go round 1, nor should it be purely on the upper end of upside
So back to my example, Rowell was always more ready than others in his draft year and while I had Anderson as having a better career, there were a number of players that had strong attributes and output throughout their junior years
Ultimately, I'm not fussed what a draftee does in years 1-2, moreso career
Cards on the table Arr0w, who are you picking once the Tigers take Lalor at #1?
So, who do you like for us at #3?Lalor gone and not knowing what North do....
Smith
Draper
Langford or FOS
What also comes into play is what might happen to our next pick
Get the bronze ready, because we'll have access to one of Jagga or Draper.Erect 2 statues, if he's able to unearth another Daicos, Aschroft, or Sheezel in the upcomming draft.
