If our 38 is used on Ben and we have additional points left over, do these points upgrade our 63 pick to say 58 as an example?

BTW - IMO, the team that could bid on Ben is Port at 36. I feel SoS will be looking for KP at his pick.
Not quite.

If there are points left over, the last pick used slides back to the "points over" value. The points do not get added to the next pick.

e.g. A bid comes in on Ashcroft at pick 3 (and no other pick trades have been done - unlikely!)
  • Pick 3 is valued at 2234 points. Brisbane get a 20% discount, meaning they need to pay 1788 points to match.
  • Pick 27 gets consumed, providing 703 points. Brisbane now need 1085 to match. Pick 27 moves to back of the draft.
  • Pick 34 gets consumed, providing 542 points. Now need 543 to match. Pick 34 moves to back of draft.
  • Pick 42 goes next, giving 395 points. Still need 148 to match. Pick 42 moves to back of draft.
  • Pick 43 is next up, it is worth 378 points. This is 234 in excess of the amount required. Pick 43 will slide back to pick 53 (which is valued at 233 points).
Note - that pick 53 that Brisbane now have is after all the other picks have been shuffled. i.e. our pick 38 goes back to 39 because pick 2 is inserted for Brisbane. Then it comes in to 37 because picks 27 and 34 were used up in the bid match.

After all of this, Brisbane have effectively gone from:
Brisbane: 27, 34, 42, 43, 49, 60, 66
to:
Brisbane: 3, --, --, --, 53, 47, 59, 65, 76, 77, 78

Note2 - this is how it is described in the AFL literature, but I think there's a mistake in the way it is described. I think that first pick 27 shouldn't go to the end of the list, as it should become the pick 3 that is inserted. Somehow, as described, Brisbane get an extra pick. In reality, I don't think that pick 78 at the end of the draft will be there.

Finally... it won't work out like this, because Brisbane will trade that pick 27 for later picks worth more points on draft night.

100%, that’s super scary.

With the next level increase in work load you just don’t know what can happen.
Yes there’s the best medical support available but when u ramp up the workload that’s when things flare/develop.

Given what’s available at our pick, I’d be taking a very wide berth, why take the risk even if it’s low.
just read about it on YouTube it's not good

I think people are confusing 'chronic' with 'severe' or 'acute', and perhaps rest + medication, or a minor surgical intervention will fix the issue.

But this speaks nothing of the shin issues he had this year.
Reported twice in zerhanger as Chronic pars defect Jimmie not acute.

“Draper is in Melbourne for this week's Draft Combine, however, the 2023 South Australia MVP won't take part in testing due to a chronic pars defect in his back.”

Reported quote from Draper as a Chronic back injury in the Advertiser:

“Top South Australian draft prospect Sid Draper says he has “no reservations” about joining the Crows in November’s AFL national draft and is confident a chronic back injury won’t affect his football future.”

The 2% vote for Smilie is pretty interesting. Dude looks like a pretty average footballer to my mind - despite his physical traits, doesn't appear to impact the stoppage much. His frame may give him more scope to improve but he doesn't stand out to me at all and very happy we're out of that 6-10 range where he'll go as there appears to be a non-insignificant gap between the top 5 (Lalor, FOS, Jagga, Draper, Langford) and the rest.

you'd think we do a medical on him before deciding
Not allowed to these days. Only the AFL is allowed to pre drafting and they disclose what they want to to clubs.

WCE had an issue with one of their recent draftees that wasn't disclosed apparently and the club was absolutely livid with the corporate peanuts at AFL house. They spent a fairly good pick on said player.

Coona my limited understanding is that an acute par defect (fracture) can eventually heal itself with rest. However a Chronic par defect (break) would require surgery.

Clubs interested in Draper would surely want to see an MRI or scans to confirm for themselves if it’s chronic or not.

Can’t imagine the Draper camp wouldn’t say anything or correct the injury claim if it was an exaggeration. It would also be the height of stupidity for the media to report it’s chronic if it’s not.
I am unfortunately a slave to a very poor public system. Draper would be getting some high level care and information.

Can’t give any positive feedback.

I have had some wildly varying information thrown at me. Some leaves suicidal inclinations. Getting legitimate, up to date information has been nigh on impossible. Worst feedback was with a CT located steroid jab, doctor doing it (public) said while I was motionless and couldn’t move. “This is only temporary, you will need your surgeon to operate on the break”. My response was “what break?… I don’t have a spinal surgeon, this is resultant from my pelvic surgery”. Did not get another work, the “professional” vacated the room while I was still face down. Had given me TMI. Have literally been battling to get real feedback since. Have Pain Clinic treatment/monitoring with no imagery available to me as have had nothing but location oriented scans. Asked for consultation with spinal professional. Was referred to Specialist Spinal Physio in conjunction with Pain Clinic at seperate facilities (3 1/2 and 4 1/2 hours drive from home) Keep asking for spinal consult and imaging to know where I am at, although do know they can’t fuse it due to my pelvic surgery. Three years on have been put off multiple times despite being promised a consult within 12 months. Now have an appointment 20th of this month, wondering if that will happen. Just this morning got a text to say I hadn’t confirmed appointment and if I didn’t today, I would lose it. Funny thing that it is in a stream where they offered appointment, I accepted and they acknowledged and thanked me for my acceptance. Then I get this crap suggesting I haven’t accepted, directly under previous acceptance.

Sorry for the derail, I literally typed “Not going to bore people with my journey” …then my mind was triggered. Maybe some will find it “educational”.

I am led to believe fusing is a relatively common and safe procedure for those eligible. I have no idea of any subsequent movement deficits for an elite athlete.

Feel for you Coona. Tough situation, hope things pan out better in the near future for you.

No doubt about it, the public system is not what it once was.

Yeah, should not be Russian Roulette for clubs, the investment is immense.

those attributes are hard to pass up. is a goal kicking mid which we don't have many of

Aside from Cripps in 2022, we haven't had a 20+ disposal mid with good goal/game average since Marc Murphy did in 2011...

If we draft FOS and he can consistently produce that, we've won with pick 3 big time.

Would FOS instantly become our best kick mid as well? He’s a beautiful penetrating kick of the footy

I think so, at least off his preferred. E.Hollands goes close though if we count him as a mid. Cerra's kicking gets talked up but there is a big difference between his best and his worst. Kicks some bullets but also plenty of shockers.

That ability from Finn could be a real threat and POD in our midfield that we don’t have and really help our side next year
