Cripps - Can't play another role
Rests forward regularly
Cerra - Capable of playing half back and wing but not to a high standard
Got spelled at wing and HF when his hamstrings were in good nick
Hewett - Can't play another role
Has played in defence for us briefly and is arguably a better shout there than Cerra if we can solve for defensive midfield issues
Walsh - Can play wing but is one of the best mids in the comp at his best.
Originally tore it up early in the AFL on the wing, regularly has had stints coming off HF at the bounce prior to the last 2 years, and still only looks at his best on ball when he gets to free wheel in the corridor with the ball gifted to him.

The writing is on the wall there.
That right there is the root cause of the rotation issues for our mids. Probably why we're targeting a dynamic mid who can push forward in this draft. Ben Campo is another we'll add who can really only excel as an inside mid. We lack flexibility in our midfield, something a team like Collingwood or Sydney do not.
We absolutely need to be more dynamic in midfield, just not sure FOS is the guy to really crack it open, or that we should ignore his lack of production given he was having issues with his fingers, not his legs.

He has so much work to do to become a full-time mid, and even then he might wind up slowing down as he adds mass.

As it relates to the thread, nor am I. The 'idea' of FOS is clearly the best fit of anyone in this draft. Smooth moving goal scoring midfielder who can take a grab and is elite by foot... But I haven't seen anywhere near enough to be convinced.

That said I don't have anywhere near the same data or inside knowledge as our recruiting team so who knows maybe he's just been extremely unlucky.

Draper>Lalor>Smith>FOS still my order of preference.

If we were getting the 'finished product' versions of each I'd probably have FOS>Lalor>Draper>Smith

Full season highlights for Harvey Langford. These highlights demonstrate what a consistently powerful and prolific season Langford has had, in terms of sheer performance level perhaps only matched by Jagga Smith. Deservedly named joint Larke medalist, and demonstrated his leadership traits in propelling both his Vic Country and Dandenong Stingrays teams to excellent seasons even if they did ultimately fall short of the major trophies. If he can overcome some concerns around his athletic profile, he could end up starring at the next level.

Cuners has done a medical with Sydney!!

My 2c - one of Voss biggest bloody weaknesses is exactly this. He doesn't rotate heavy load midfield jobs well at all. It's part of the damn injury issues. He's blinkered with players and the jobs he wants them to do. Thought that was something that was obvious and accepted.

Whether we all agree and get along on the changes and trials we would like to see / could be appropriate etc. That's always going to be discussed though. But they're different things...

100%

Also, this whole idea that teams rotate heaps of players through the midfield is a bit of a myth.

Our issue is more the mix of players we have playing midfield (makes suggestions of putting Walsh on a wing even more absurd), not that we don't have enough players going through there.

Pretty much every team has 4-5 players that get 95% of the cbas. The model is usually 3 main guys who get >60% supported by 2 guys who get 20-40%. Or 4 main guys who get >50% supported by others who attend the odd bounce.

I disagree with you on this one.

I am not “adamant” Kemp would be a star mid, but strongly believe he has sufficient key traits to transfer to the middle. He is very good in traffic and has excellent hands in tight. Plenty of less likely players have made the successful transition to the midfield.

Weak through the hips is BS. Not having the body strength to compete with 200cm/100kg key forwards or resting rucks does not equate to “weak in the hips” for a mid.

Fumbles/:makes poor decisions under pressure? Again BS pressure in the middle does not equate to a tsunami of ball heading your way off the back of players up the ground applying little to no pressure, while you are the last line and a perceived failure produces opposition goals. Totally different pressure.

Voss afraid to shift the magnets? Not afraid, but absolutely Voss or other coaches see Kemp as the best option for 2nd tall defender given the list. He is regularly overfaced, has good defensive intent, but is more a ball player than a born defender. I still maintain his best use on our list is as the 3rd tall rebounding defender, but I absolutely believe he should be at least trialled in the engine room and/or on a wing for his sake and for that of the team.
Yeah I don't really agree on any of this bar 'he has traits to transfer to the middle' so I'll just leave it at that.

Kemp's biggest issue for me whether its playing back forward or mid is still his strength. Still youngish but he's got to improve that significantly, just as TDK has over the years.

Kemp does not show enough intensity, concentration, and nous in his current role which leads to him being dropped to the VFL. I can’t see those aspects of his game magically increasing when we throw him into the role in the team with the highest level of pressure and scrutiny. If he wants midfield time, he needs to show it by dominating his current role rather the match committee gambling 4 premiership points on helping him to find his best position at AFL level.

I’ll preface my comments by saying I don't really understand the nuances around why clubs rank players where they do and why they think they are a good fit or not. I have enjoyed watching Langford’s highlight packages more than any other potential draftee at our range (by a long way) and based on that I would be more than happy if he was a Carlton player on 20/11.

There is something about this guy that I just keep coming back too and saying could be the best of the group.

Just listened to Cal Twomey on SEN this morning and he said the strong belief talking to clubs is the Tigers deciding between Lalor and FOS for pick 1
l would not discount the Tigers gaining pick 2 to make it a easy decision they get both.
Also makes sense for North to get two top 10 picks also with the quality in the top 10.

Cal also said the Tigers are not desperate or pushing hard for pick 2 so might not happen
