Why did we just trade and delist Kennedy and Carroll Soapy?

I can see a world where Langford and Cripps rotate forward and mid. Might extend Crippas career
I'm the same. I've been watching some of the highlights clips, and I gotta say some are pretty underwhelming - especially from this year's U18 Champs.
He plays with a massive amount of energy and speed - which is fine in junior ranks and in the slower pace of state league football - but just not convinced how that'll translate that into the high pressure/high intensity cauldron of AFL football, especially as it often results in rushed decision making, even at the lower levels.
I may be completely off the mark - just giving my non-expert armchair analysis....but if FOS is off the board, Langford would now be my preference, followed closely with Jagga. Both have AFL attributes imo.
I wouldn't be reading too much into who we have met. As Cal said we have met with all the top 5 recently and possibly will again before the draft. Can't split them on that. It's just due diligence.
Quite possible we haven't even finalised our draft board yet (I'm sure we have some idea). We wouldn't have done as much work on these kids as say Richmond throughout year given as we didn't expect to have 3. Would be making up for lost time the past month or so. We may even have had someone in mind when we traded for 3 and changed after doing more work on it.
Not disregarding any of the intel. It's all great. Just my thoughts.

Even if Langford is the same type of player surely you think he’s a superior player or will be better than those two? Or steer clear
Kennedy wasn't quick and didn't have a tank. Limited as a midfielder. With Lord and Campo twins we easily cover Kennedy.

Yeh interesting. Langford ran a low 6:20s or something so he fits the “run and ball use” line I heard on trade radio. Speed obviously not but as others have mentioned elite ball use is faster than any player

Neither are quick or great kicks.
Lord will step up and hope we have a fit Cerra & Walsh. I'm hopeful on Wilson (who is quick) and I reckon Ben Campo will suprise and be ready to play early. Doc may play midfield and there is also Elijah
I expect Durdin, Kemp, Williams, Motlop, Fogarty to have some mid minutes as well
Add FOS or Langford and that is an awesome midfield

it’s really not, it just expose the hypercritical nature of FS
I feel like my top 20 are FOS & Langford at this point. Got flirty with Smith a couple weeks ago, but back to FOS and Langford has only grown on me over time, really like what he can do.
The reason I've leant to FOS is the the potential upside and difference he could provide. I'm not as worried about the bust potential that lots of others talk about. Genuine game breaker who would have Heeney sized impact (this years version). Can take a contest mark anywhere on ground, play on fast and break the lines and attack 50 and kick goals from 55m.
Langford I think is the best all-round player, just doesn't have the x-factor. But the size, contested marking for a mid, goal kicking and skill excite me. Would love him to play forward early for us - I've seen it suggested he could play HBF early, but I'd rather his marking, goal sense and skill inside 50 then rotate into the mids.

Langford despite his size is a balanced mid. Different to Kennedy who is pure inside.
Doesn't have speed but does provide great ball use, which is also a need, has a great tank and better forward craft then any of our other onballers. Also, worth remembering we aren't just drafting for now. While our midfield next year may seem big and slow Cripps is 30 and Hewett 29. In a few years the makeup of our midfield will look quite different, and we'll probably have a need for a big mid like Langford. In the meantime he probably plays more forward anyway.

I really like Langford as a player on his own, but when you stack up our midfield mix I think it would be an absolute disaster to take him over any of Draper, Smith, FOS or Lalor. We just got rid of 3 decent players on our list due to their poor running capabilities, replacing them with a player who's just extremely similar in that regard would be insanity imo. Not to mention Austin and Lloyd have already stated the club believes there's a need for speed in our midfield mix.
Cripps - Slow
Walsh - Above Average
Cerra - Average
Hewett - Slow
Langford - Slow
Lord - Average
B.Campo - Average
E.Hollands - Slow
If we were Essendon, Geelong or Collingwood I'd be all over Langford. But for our mix I think he'd be a poor selection at 3. It's just far too one paced.

Gonna be one big unit when he fully fills out.
You make some really good points.
One thing to remember though (which is easy to forget at this this time of year) is not all that top group will end up comparably good. We aren't picking between Bontompelli, Butters, Petracca, Serong and deciding which is the best fit for our team.
The likely reality is that of the 5 we are picking between 1-2 becomes stars, 2-3 become solid players and 1 is a bust. The player with the style that most suits us might project to be a solid player or even worse, the bust. We need to give ourselves every chance of getting a star as that player will add more value to us regardless of whether they are the perfect fit.
One of the reasons we took Dow was because we felt we needed more speed in our midfield. His speed didn't do much for us when he wasn't good enough to be in our senior team.
Now things might line up and the player we rate highest might also best fill our current needs best, but it's not guaranteed to be the case.
Also, I would argue any of the top 5 meet our needs in some way. They might just not all tick the speed component.
Sorry but I 100% disagree. Langford or FOS aren't "slow" Win the ball is the key
Cerra & Walsh and even Cripps can burst form the middle. Then give mid minutes to Motlop, Durdin, Williams etc to freshen up. Boyd Wilosn Saad Ollie etc running off HB. Win the ball and use it properly and leg speed is largely irrelevant
My take is hardly ground breaking:
There is a clear Top Tier consensus in Lalor, FOS, Draper, Langford, Smith.
We have gone deep in depth into all of them.
The LM have handed these 5 over to Vossy to meet and interview and feel out.
The LM will have an order in their head pre Vossy.
They will talk it over with Vossy now that he has met them all.
The LM will lock in their order with or without adjustments via Vossy.
Then wait to see who goes before us and take the top available on our list.
The mission to get to 3 was highly worthwhile to get into the heart of this elite tier.
My overall ranking is:
Lalor - Draper - FOS - Langford - Smith
My order for us would be:
Lalor - Draper - FOS - Smith - Langford. But all 5 are Pick 3 worthy.
My gut feel on the LM order for us is:
FOS - Lalor - Draper - Smith - Langford
The order will be slightly different for all Clubs.
My Gut feel on Draft Night:
1. Rich: Lalor
2. Nth: FOS
3. Car: Draper
Next important update i guess, is either a visit from EP later in the week or then onto Twomey's Phantom on Monday.
Meanwhile let the debate and opinion flow. The build up is part of the fun of it.
