Dont stress. Ive noticed alot of casual fans and bloggers are overly focused on carltons immediate need for speed. The club will be taking a longer term view, hence Jagga.

Should have seen how some on the Blue Abroad channel were blowing up about the Jagga news.
Thought some of the commenters really embarrassed themselves on that video. Laying into a kid that hasn’t even been drafted, let alone played a game yet

Yeah as much as people say embarrassing things on bigfooty, its nothing compared to what you see on facebook and youtube.

Not just embarrasing and mean but super dumb comments. No disrespect to Blue Abroad itself. Terry in particular is great.

Any concern with drafting both Jagga and Ben C into the team? Both inside accumulators with neither having a burst of speed.
Both are inside outside types.

More like Walsh than Cripps.

Running power is a strength.

Jagga's point of difference is evasiveness and highly efficient use. Ben doesn't have one, kind of a George Hewett type for mine, but faster and better overhead marking.

I’ll back Jagga, if that who we end up with, and he is the safest pick…

But, is his upside limited when compared to FOS & Draper? He has been in full time training mode vs other boys, as he didn’t go to school this year I believe
He’s actually enrolled in a course at Deakin University. You’re right he has also set up a training regime, recovery sessions at the beach, and prepared himself for weekend games this year.

He has pretty much simulated this year what most recruits need to contend with when they join a club. He’s way ahead of most recruits and will make the transition to a professional AFL environment quicker than most. In terms of preparation he’s also got quite a few role models to help him out also.

I think they are different enough. Reckon Ben develops into a big bodied extractor (Cripps replacement) and Jagga a more balanced mid. Both quick enough. Could compliment eachother well.

Get this, I live in a rural area and one of the towns near me has a pub some of my family worked at yada yada yada. Anywho, I've been on and off friends with the guy who owned the pub, talk to him a bit at the supermarket and what not. He's been talking all year about his grandson who plays footy and in his words "is doing pretty good for himself". He never elaborated so I just assumed he was playing seniors in country footy or something and playing well.

Talked to him last week, said he was looking like he's gonna get drafted. "Shit" I said, "must be doing very well then. What's his name? I'll keep an eye out for him".

His grandson is Jagga Smith. What the hell.

FYI Port are convinced Adelaide has committed to Draper.

Would seem to imply that a trade for 2 is unlikely?

There is also a school of thought that we said we wanted Smith, so the Crows won't trade up for Draper.

I know what all the signs say, but I do like a draft surprise. I think I want Smith over Draper, but FOS over Smith, but the margins are very small.

And driven that all himself. Not because its his job and someones paying him to show up. If he skipped his recovery or gym sessions nobody would even know.

Still not the same as a fully proffesional environment so wouldnt say it limits his upside but it definately prepares him really well for it. All the sudden hes going to get a whole new level of support hes never had.

If Roos want FOS it no longer makes sense.

Even if Adelaide could get an F2 (4+F2 for 2), the Roos would risk missing FOS if they trade down to 4. Not worth it for an F2 if hes their man.

Only made sense if they wanted Tauru and were willing to take him at 2, in which case F2 would have been a freekick.

I thinks Cal's thinking is Tauru is too much of a reach at 2 and you have to go with best available. But if Roo's can move back to 4, they will absolutely take Tauru

If Saints bid on Ben at 32 we then have 5 minutes to match the bid. Can we trade 38 in that 5 minutes and then match the bid within that time with the later picks in the 60s?

Jagga is the man brother
Go get a photo of him picture framed and hang it up now !!!!
I'd be extremely happy with Smith, of all the mid only types, I see him as best available if he lasts to pick 3

I'm personally more nervous about 38 than 3. Happy with any of Lalor/FOS/Smith/Draper. At 38 it's really hard to see how the club can prepare for an early Ben bid.
I'm just as excited, I think Austin will do a pick shuffle to gain a pick just before a possible bid, and or a another pick just after

Other than those 4 picks in the 60s/70s I don't think we have anything to pair with 38 to move up. Future picks are pretty much locked as we traded our F1

Yeah but nobody is going to pay what it would take for them to slide to 4.

If they were going to take Tauru at 2 anyway the asking price would be cheaper as any picks they get to slide to 4 would be a bonus.

If their preference is FOS, however, theyd need a premium as theyd likely be sacrificing their first preference.

Thanks mate I could not find this answer anywhere. I was confused because I was then unsure why clubs like * would trade their pick for Kako before the night. Couldn't they just wait and do the same thing on draft night.
They probably should have but with higher bids its a bit more complicated. No guarantee the right deal would have been on offer for 9 on draft night. Doing the deal early opens up alot more flexibility and was the safer choice.

Ok. I'm no draft expert and will never claim to be.
And that is why, when the majority of the AFL "world", say this ranks as a very very good draft, I'll tend to sway with the majority.

Where would you rate this draft in comparison to others?

The past three years have better top end talent and a deeper spread of positional options and stronger leaders - this is not based on my view but knowledge from others who know better.
What strikes me however is the lack of KPP talent in this draft, the lack of output from some of the mids who will be taken early and the lack of conversation on leadership qualities. Maybe Smith covers off on a couple of those aspects and is why we might be lucky if he is available at 3.
AFL media are paid to talk up the draft. Player agents are also paid to talk it up and as you rightly identified, the 5-10 years of performance at AFL level provides a definitive measure post-draft.

Anything can happen, you might have a club that bids on Hoffman or Cole, knocking out pick 32

"Clubs and managers expect..."

Everyone is speculating. Nobody truly knows. It makes for one of the more fascinating draft nights
They are not guessing, it’s an informed opinion with the information they have that’s why Cal Twomeys track record is spot on because of the information he receives from club recruiters and managers.
