Who should Carlton take at Pick 3 if available?

I believe you need to have at least one pick in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round of next year's draft if you have already traded your F1. So we could use whatever we get for 38 but that's pretty much it I think

Yep, depends where we want to, or can, buy back in.

If we can get a pick in the late 30s or early 40s, it'll cost us the Brissy future second. Any later than that I reckon we might be able to use a future third (retaining both future seconds).

Still though, I think Ben lasts til 40+, gut feel.

When trying to project our rookie outcomes, I believe the biggest single factor (which I reckon the recruiters have factored in) has to be our confidence or lack of it, in Harry Lemmey.

Lemmey could be a key at either end, I still believe would be better behind the ball. If he is to be a long term piece, then surely he has to get a taste of senior football in 2025, as in EARN IT. His intensity is questionable from appearances, but that can be a misconception from those of us outside the inner sanctum. Should the club have doubts on him, then surely we take the opportunity to add TWO potential long term key position prospects. I have not given up on Lemmey, he has had some good moments. I have observed he seems better served/more comfortable behind the ball or pinch hitting in the ruck, where he is inserted in to the game as opposed to as a forward play maker.

Denver Grainger-Barras is quite fascinating. Underwhelming at the Hawks in a strong developmental environment, wher they have clearly tried to make him a KPP rather than an interceptor. Surely he has to be spectacularly impressive to command a spot during his train on period. Do we see him as a possible KPD, or are we looking for a longer term third tall defensive type? The bloke was incredibly highly regarded as a draftee could be a revelation or a waste of a spot.

Have we moved on from Kemp as a defender? Is the suggestion of Jack Silvagni being groomed in defence a genuine one?
Do we see Nick Haynes as a genuine mentor type and want to use his influence on multiple young players? Surely ther is a scenario where we do not need to add “depth” through the rookie draft.

Charlie West has had plenty of mentions and would be a genuine swingman. There is a reality where he slips to the rookie draft and becomes a real option, rather than using the rookie draft for more mature players which is becoming the norm across a great many clubs.

I am more than happy if we pick up Liam McMahon as a rookie or in the SSP period as he has more than earned his chance. Again his recruitment would somewhat depend on club projections for Lemmey. Overall though, I would love to use the rookie draft for genuine rookies. Again pre emptive, do we consider a ruck? Do we expect Pittonet to move on for opportunity next year? If Young is to move on when his contract ends, we lose more ruck depth, so we will have a need. Do we use a free rookie spot for a hybrid small forward type? I have decent regard for Jacob Newton from SA if that were the case. The other possible need is the next generation of defensive rebounders, but they may well be already there with some redeployment.

I may be prone to over thinking, but find the bottom end of the draft process as fascinating as the pointy end. I can’t help thinking we need to fill all of our gaps so that for future drafts, we are drafting best available rather than compromising to fill gaps.

Carlton find me another Jeffy Garlett in the rookie draft…

Seems silly to tip your hand though, in case someone also wants him and can jump above you.

I do note that Carlton haven't said anything themselves in the media, but someone said something to Twomey.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, since all things are still theoretically possible.
There’s a nuance to all of this that is mostly lost because of the lack of definitive public statements.
Little point in trying to play games when so many stakeholders are in the know.

As per my previous post, Carlton will take Draper ahead of Smith.
If FOS is not available then it’s Draper.
Take with a grain of salt.

Not sure what you are responding to here.
I’ve not suggested we will take Smith - only debating why he is being mentioned at pick 3.

Very happy and impressed, so far, with the LM team

Getting the pick firstly and being able to bring in a talent like Jagga (or any of the top 3/4), is outstanding work.

Add to that the Campo's who I think are a little under rated, and will fit in nicely.

Well done
Keep it up

More than a little underrated. Ben was SA's MVP from the U18 champs...

Get this, I live in a rural area and one of the towns near me has a pub some of my family worked at yada yada yada. Anywho, I've been on and off friends with the guy who owned the pub, talk to him a bit at the supermarket and what not. He's been talking all year about his grandson who plays footy and in his words "is doing pretty good for himself". He never elaborated so I just assumed he was playing seniors in country footy or something and playing well.

Talked to him last week, said he was looking like he's gonna get drafted. "Shit" I said, "must be doing very well then. What's his name? I'll keep an eye out for him".

His grandson is Jagga Smith. What the hell.

Me mum says my cousins (2nd or 3rd cousin) gonna get drafted this year - he is not in our top 5 so haven’t paid any attention - some bloke named Ashcroft - is he any good?

Pretty happy with Jagga or Draper. Both fit our list well and while neither are the perfect package they're both steps in the right direction for our list profile. A shift from bulky, slow contested players was necessary and most of the list changes this off season have done just that.

Very interested to see what we do with pick 38. Would expect a young KPD but there will be considerable talents that could slot in on a flank fairly early around that mark.

How do we even sleep tonight 😂
