Not sure where you're getting this from? As he blitzed testing, has never looked slow on the field since he was drafted - and now looks considerably leaner and stronger. I remember his National combine results, and he was Top 5 endurance wise and Top 10 in the 20m sprint - which is a very good combo for someone his height. This is from Rookie me:

"Mitch Knevitt is anticipated to go somewhere in that second round, with a number of clubs viewing him as a Top 25 prospect. He could go as high as late first round, or slide later in the second round, but his end to the year, and his unsurprising testing results at the recent AFL Vic Country Draft Combine where he finished in the top few for both the 20m sprint and 2km time trial, means he will likely be closer to the former than the latter. One way or another, he is one to watch in the coming years with his potential."

I do agree that Inside Mid is his best position, but he definitely has the scope to play wing or half forward if the team needs it. From what I've seen in a snapshot of his AFL career this far, slow is not a ln attribute I would apply to Knevitt, IMO.

This is the write up from ESPN to further confirm this notion:

"Securing a 2.976 second 20m sprint and a 6:18 in the 2km time trial, the second and third best times in the respective tests at the Vic Country combine, 194cm Mitch Knevitt wowed onlookers. Among other tall midfielders, Knevitt's 20m sprint compares favourably to Scott Pendlebury's 3.01, Marcus Bontempelli's 3.2 and Patrick Cripps' 3.23. On matchday, Knevitt covers the ground well, manages to get from contest to contest, looks agile in traffic and provides good spread. What's more incredible with Knevitt is he's not just a tall athlete, but a genuinely good midfielder. Knevitt plays his best football through the midfield as a ball winner and inside distributor, displaying the strength to stand up through tackles and release by hands. A strong contested mark who can also push forward and provide a forward of centre marking threat, Knevitt has the scope to be successful at AFL level, as there will be few who can both run with him and compete in marking contests. With his strong last two months to the season and incredible combine results, Knevitt is likely to receive first round consideration."

Also, for comparison, his 2.976 sprint time is faster than DeMattia, 0.013 slower than Gothard and 0.060 slower than Windsor - who are considered some of the quickest draftees in the 2023 draft. Gives you an idea of just how quick off the mark Knevitt can be.

"20m sprint

Aiden O’Driscoll (Perth/Northam Saints) - 2.871 seconds
Will Graham (Gold Coast Suns Academy/Palm Beach Currumbin) - 2.915
Caleb Windsor (Eastern Ranges/South Belgrave) - 2.916
Lance Collard (Subiaco/North Beach) - 2.923
Kane McAuliffe (North Adelaide/Central Augusta) - 2.930
Zane Zakostelsky (Claremont/North Beach) - 2.954
Phoenix Gothard (Murray Bushrangers/Albury) - 2.963
Taylor Goad (South Adelaide/Willunga) - 2.965
Eion McElholm (Ireland) - 2.993
Harry DeMattia (Dandenong Stingrays/Edithvale-Aspendale) - 2.996"

Translation - he ain't slow.

I really like Knevitt. He's had a good apprenticeship and has progressed well in each year he's had on the list. He looked really good at AFL level in 2023. He was very stiff to be dropped after his game against the Dogs. This could very well be a breakout year for him with Isaac Smith vacating his wing role.

Yeah he's just incrementally improved, rather than having a breakout. But like you, his game against the dogs was his best so far. And his last month of VFL was his most consistent of his career averaging 25.5 disposals, 7 marks and a goal a game.

If he can continue on that trajectory he'll play games next year. And I don't think it really matters at this stage whether they're inside or wing. I think if he plays a dozen or more AFL games next year, that's a win.

Wow, I didn't realise his VFL numbers were so strong. He's a very Geelong-type player, tall, strong running and versatile. Hope he succeeds.

We might all be inmates in the same asylum (in which case, no cure to be found here!). Else, help me take my hoop goggles off..

The Trials & Tribulations of a being a Cats fan

Cats never get enough credit for innovating within the rules. Like say Polly Farmer's raking handballs, The Geelong Highway (through the middle of the ground), consistently discovering diamonds in the depths of the draft, The J-Curve, The Scarlo dash, rehabilitating retirees (ok.. mature-age recruits), non-traditional talent pathways (who would've thunk of a steeplechaser?) etc..

Numerous reform pieces on other scandal-ridden Teams/Management. I'm looking at you Collingwood, Clarko etc.. Squeaky-clean Cats get nary a mention. BTW, have we ever sacked a Coach?

MSM (Mainstream Media) underselling the Cats. Both in amount of exposure and lack of in-depth treatises (puff pieces). The sole reason I stumbled upon this Board this year. Honourable Exceptions: The Geelong Advertiser, K-Rock Football

Tempered Game-day commentary. Ex-opposition players with Geelong PTSD or self-effacing ex-players/fans (e.g Lingy). Honourable Exceptions: K-Rock Football, Anthony Hudson, Gerard Whateley, Dwayne Russell, Brad Johnson etc.

Playing "on the edge" is extra perilous. Other teams can assault & maul. Cats can't as much as cast an evil glance. Maybe the reason we save such acts for the last game of the year (e.g the 2022 Grand Final) when they're less costly.

Umpires always seems to handicap the Cats. They look at us like Oliver Twist. We shouldn't always be asking for more.

Staging / Playing for free kicks. It is rite of passage for every small forward/midfielder. But sure, let us name-call/boo Selwood. Don't even get me started on the illegal handballs that other teams get away with. Looking at you Doggies..

Trigger-happy Tribunals. Hawk laying a finger is akin to a finger-poke to the ribs, asphyxiating said opponent. Hawk is expected to defy gravity, momentum and other laws of physics. Cats adjudicated under a different/changing definition of "Duty of Care".

AFL playing whack-a-mole with the Cats. Examples: Father/Son (the Pies screamed foul until they didn't), Academy Zoning (cost us JUH), Priority picks (none), FA Compensation (GA Jnr vs Franklin compensation disparity)

I think this is proper insane asylum stuff. We can all be there sometimes but in reality there is no grand conspiracy and most of this stuff is just nonsense.

We also have I think the greatest advantage in the league of living in an area with one of the lowest costs of living and highest quality of life for people who don't love the city.

The only time I think the club could really feel aggrieved was when the 3rd man up rule was changed. We had clearly developed Blicavs to do that role. Other teams had done the same with guys like Hodge going up all the time. But apparently we managed to develop a former steeplechaser to be too good at that so the rule had to be changed.

Probably handy having a winger that can take a pack mark too...

I mean those stats are cherry picked, to a degree. His last month was noticeably better than the rest of the year which was solid to good.

But hopefully it's an indication of where he'll go next year and beyond.

Interested to see where Dempsey is played this next season. He’s quite versatile being able to play wing, and both at half back or half forward. I wonder whether he could be earmarked to replace Duncan over the next couple of seasons in that quarterback role?

High half forward seems to be the role most suited to him. Don't think he has the elite disposal required to be an orchestrator.

Good post. I don't look at Knevitt and think he's slow, but I don't think he's shown those Combine traits at AFL level yet. He hasn't burst from packs because of a fumble or a moment of indecision, stuff that isn't uncommon in your first few senior games.

He should get a good mix of inside and outside midfielder minutes next season and I expect we'll see that burst of pace more.

It's amazing no one has mentioned that Jyhe Clark hasn't been training due to a bad injury he picked up, and won't be doing any training until next year 😔

#in#insideformation once again
And here’s me about to walk onto the board to post how good it is seeing such a full healthy list training pre season.
Except Foster which we don’t know anything about
Hope Clarke is ok, we can’t afford to lose another top draft pick to injury’s

I remember the Dimetriou (the AFL CEO) saying that clubs should target Geelong. Tried to get Cooky out, inducements for Ablett to go to Gold Coast etc etc. Really pathetic.

Can someone confirm Clark injury, please?
This was from a couple of weeks ago.
