Wow- forgot about that. Scotty Thompson at Geelong as a KB in our era would have fitted in perfectly. He was a gun defender at NM, more tham just a pest or a nuisance of a player.

But people then and now forget reality.

He was never a key position defender at Geelong in the VFL. He was a half back flanker. He played some great games that season (and we won the flag of course), and I think just because he had longish hair people started comparing him to Scarlett, who he didn't even play the same position as. As it turned out we had two picks first then North grabbed him. Good for them. He was ok, but the idea that we somehow missed out is stretching it. Without this gun defender we somehow won two more flags - and Harry Taylor was a better player anyway.

The way N.Ablett was progressing and his accuracy in front of goal, plug him into the 2008 grand final and he probably helps the Cats establish a big lead.

Egan at the back would've helped too, especially once Harley went down. Taylor had a good season but that was a tough match to be in as a first year player.
Egan does not get injured high probability we would not have recruited Harry

Nobody is saying we missed out.
Plus he was better than you are intimating.
He made the AA team in 2013, a B&F, and was highly rated (and somewhat hated) by most KF's. 193 cm, 96 kg, he played nearly all his career at N M as a FB, in that era where they were at least competitive and played finals.
The point really was that if not for Egan's foot, we would not have had Taylor.

Thompson was very good. He was better than rivers (who was also very good) and a few others we brought in. In a poor side he performed very well. I do think HT is the better player but thompson would easily have been a 200 game FB for us.

25 days until our scratch match and I'm questioning the direction of Australia as a civilisation.

Start the footy so I can think about something else please. I am begging

No need to worry about how you see people react on the news or internet.

The prevailing attitude to pretty much anything remains as it was throughout history and in all societies. Mostly apathy.

Bread and circuses unites people in a way that any real causes can’t… except maybe a war… I’ll just be quiet now…

You've described our country during the summer months as a whole.

Millions of Aussies now suddenly intrigued by politics, pop culture, war, foreign policies, history, and to keep things consistent, global sport.

Unfortunately, the vast majority know nothing about any of these subjects, and are clearly just trying to fill the void that football season leaves us.

It makes sense. We all go from talking about the same thing everyday for 6 months to suddenly scrambling for topics of discussion, but it doesn't really work.

It's not good for anybody, and the collective IQ of men between 18-70 seemingly drops even lower during the summer.

We'll get there, but it feels like a slower burn each year. I can only take so much more #Flaggers2024 before I lose my mind.

Can we just skip till round 8 when they're in crisis like every other year?

I cannot get involved with any other sport. Just a passing interest. Leaves a massive hole.

I pay very close attention to Global Politics and the Culture War
We should be worried
If the apathetic only listen to the Fake News narrative
We best take interest in Table Tennis and Badminton

Never showed anywhere near what the other three did. Even allowing for injury.
Agree.

He did look special in some moments, but for all we know he could have just ended up as the pre-cursor to today's Cam Rayner, who seemingly every year is about to take the competition by storm.

It's often the case with those 'burst' hybrid players. You're more likely to get a Heeney/Rayner than you are a Martin/Petracca.

Egan was an All Australian, and Menzel & Ablett were budding stars in teams that ended up winning the premiership. They're in a clear echelon above Nakia.

I’m bored
Is there any track watchers?
I want to know how Mullin, O’Sullivan and Jeka are going
I'm really keen to see how Mullin progresses as well- saw his first game and looks to have some serious pace (explosive pace) - with a great side-step and a propensity to want to use those attributes.
I'm hoping his skills and smarts (from the irish game) can translate to our game and/or he can pick it up quickly. Could be a real player
