I guess i'd hope he is something different to that.

I'm not sure he'll be great as a "pressure forward", but he has potential to be a goal sneak like we haven't had since Milney. ( and no i don't expect him to be as massive as Milney , but i'd like something along those lines. Pressure doesn't hit the scoreboard ).

SNAPSHOT: “A mercurial small forward with a deep bag of tricks, Lance Collard is one of Western Australia’s most exciting prospects, with his ability to create something from nothing.”

West Coast NGA product Lance Collard shapes as one of the more interesting names in this draft class. A top-end talent with some freakish highlights, the Subiaco star is a classy, high-octane small forward, demonstrating similar traits to Bobby Hill or Shai Bolton with his ability to change a game.

After an injury interrupted bottom-age campaign, Collard hit the ground running in 2023, booting 15 goals in the first six games, including a six-goal bag in the WAFL Colts Super Round to earn selection in the West Australian Under 18 squad.

Collard had an indifferent National Carnival, playing forward in a struggling side, but he showed glimpses of his talents, booting two last-quarter goals against Vic Country to almost spark his state to an upset victory.

Returning to Subiaco, the 18-year-old enjoyed a dominant finals series, booting 10 goals across two games to almost lead the Lions further into the postseason off his own boot. He finished the campaign with 32 goals across 11 Colts games to average the most majors of any small forward in the competition.

A bit of Jamie Cripps about him too.

Billings, Paddy, Spencer White, there should be expectations, but not overly so.

Look at Pou great season, but was shown how much development he still needed in the final.
Nothing like experience and time.

Mattaes was the youngest player in the comp…naturally had huge scope for development

Really haven't seen anything like it from a new recruit.
Repeat 400's, our top runners Windy, Sinc's Battle, Alison in his group.
The others are blowing a gale, he is at the front breathing like a marathon runner.

If he can utilise this in a game, he better have 4 opponents rotating off him as he will destroy an opposition player one on one.

A lot is said about young Darcy’s running but he is also good in the air, has a nice step and won the running vertical jump at the combine!
Nearly took a screamer at training on Monday.
I’ll be surprised if he’s not in our round 1 side.

Hunter Clarke has no excuse, NAS looked like he was made of toothpicks when he arrived
Hunter definitely looks stronger this preseason and has been impressive in his clearance work in match sim!
He can do some things our other mids can’t and his running has also been better, being in the middle of the group in time trials…a good sign!

Another one of the young gun brigade who has done the work - 2 years ago he was skinny as a rake - great to see!
Also surprisingly tall. Would not be surprised if he has grown to 190/191. I would love to see him spend some time on the ball as part of his development. Imagine if he becomes like our silk Burgoyne. Perhaps he gets a little los tin the hype around POu and Chito

Correct. This constant bagging of Clark and his definition gets on my nerves. It's like just concentrating on a players running ability.
How many times have we heard about a player 'built like Tarzan, plays like Jane'?

You are right about Clark's point of difference, especially his two footed kicking.
Last Friday, running at pace, kicks on the left his at target on the tit from 40, a minute later does the same on the right.
He is a very good extractor at stoppages and with the extra pace around him can really be a Pendlebury type for the team setup.

That’s the take away isn’t it. There might be a few that think Nasiah is a natural talent, but he’s still had to put in the work to get his body to a level where his mind believes he can not just play at AFL level but dominate.

It’s a big part of why Phillipou, Windhager, Owens and Wilson will/have also come on quickly.

Hopefully Collard, Hastie, Schoenmaker, Garcia et al are properly inspired to train at the same level.

Good points Joff, looking forward to seeing Clark with a decent injury run surrounded by players with pace

Hi all

Couldn’t see a thread for fantasy questions so apologies if not the right place to ask.

How is Crouch looking?
Is he likely to have the same role in 2024?
Does the addition of Dow impact him?

Thanks!

Crouch is one of our only players still to join full training. Nothing serious and I don't think he's far away.

Dow is more likely to impact Ross's role, Crouch will play the same as last year.

We now at least have some variety in our midfield options…Jones, Hill, Dow, Windhager, Henry, Garcia have speed/ power…then there’s potentially Owens and Phillipou that add further variation!!

Don’t get me wrong I want nothing but success for HC but for 6 years in the system he still doesn’t really look like an AFL standard body

Given he’s not exactly the paciest player Id always hoped he’d bulk up and become a bit of a Lenny style evasive hard man with his good skills

Lenny Hayes was a twig, big heart and determination made him a star imo.

Wasn't necessarily targeting you with my post.
I think Clark has a unique skillet in the team and that can be utilised in a Lyon coached team that has pace.
I feel he is nothing like Lenny, Steele is our Lenny, his huge tools are his extraction at stoppages, his disposal of both feet( can open a zone with his ulternate use of foot) and his bravery.
He doesn't need to be Micky Conlan, he doesn't need to be quick, but he does need to be fit to run both ways.
Regardless of his skillset, if he doesn't run both ways he won't be in a Lyon coached team.

More of a Dal Santo than a Lenny Hayes.

Hopefully.

It Took GAJ 5 season to average over 25 disposals a game.

He is lenny style hard man with evasive skills, problem is he keep getting his body cooked.

I don't know about that, Lenny hit the opposition incredibly hard whereas HC just seems to get hit incredibly hard (due to bad luck mostly)

Lenny's tackling was also way better.

Lenny was quick and dynamic in close, Hunter is more of a finesse type player. Its good to read he has improved his running over the summer, but the team can only play so many slow inside midfielders eg Crouch & Steele. He does offer something different with his extraction methods, but the way he gets exposed on turn over will always be his achillies heal. I would still have Ross and a fit Jones ahead of Clark and with Dow, Henry and Wilson coming onto the list, unless there are injuries Hunter will struggle to hold his position in the side.

Thats not to suggest he is not AFL quality he is, but there will be other players ahead of him, because of his lack of speed.
