McKay benefits enormously from the one ruck setup. It keeps him involved for the entirety of the game and he’s shown an ability to utilise his enormous running capacity. Sounds silly, but I think the continual presence up and around the ground has improved his goal-kicking; his role is almost an old-school CHF and it’s allowed him to just relax and play to his strengths.

3 goals, 17 touches, 6 marks. I think he’s playing better than his Coleman year.

Seems to be warming into it and playing his role more and more. The bloke pretty much hasn't played for three years. Still need a bit more from him but his improvement has been linear.

Don't really understand the the constant sniping of him on here. Was always going to take a bit to get up and running and was probably playing because others were injured for a while.

Looks as though at the very worst he has improved our depth in an area where we have struggled.
2x goals for the season from 10 games and he’s playing as a forward.

Fantasia out for Motlop, Owies out for Martin. Cerra comes into the 22, Carroll goes out and one of Hewett / Kennedy drop back to the sub role.

Love Cottrell but not sure he's an automatic inclusion. Another option for the sub (probably prefer him to Hewett in that role).

Great competition for spots if we manage to get through unscathed to the bye.
Our fwd entries need to improve. Cottrel is an automatic selection, at worst the perfect sub

It's a good point - where do you fit Cunners, Marchy, Martin, Cerra, Pitto, etc. into the team?

Fantasia comes out - who else? You can't really drop Owies given he's our 3rd leading goal kicker. Kemp / Cowan don't deserve to be dropped. Williams isn't getting moved out of the forward line. Cinocotta / Fog are undroppable.
I’d say only Martin & Cerra come back through, by right.

All others have to earn a spot through the 2’s.

It’s a great position to be in at this time of the year.

See, I don't think Cincotta actually reads the play all that well. You don't get picked up as a mature supplementary pick with that athletic profile if there isn't a downside; he's got excellent straight line pace, runs out games pretty well, doesn't play too tall or small, is very strong one on one. Once he has the ball he's okay, not exceptional as far as IQ goes; the benefit he provides is that he's athletic enough to find some space and mature enough to be good at most things. What you're seeing now is pretty close to his ceiling, because he's genuinely in his prime.

Having said all that - it sounds like I'm kicking him - why tagging is the correct choice is that all he needs to do as a tagger is play on a single opponent and get their ball before they do. Due to 6-6-6 he can't attend centre bounce too often - it'd impinge upon our own setups - but outside that he wore Butters like a glove and halved his influence. He's surrounded by Cripps, Walsh, Newman, both Hollands; he doesn't need to be exceptional at finding a teammate, just the next link in a chain.

And you get his attributes as a tagger. He's following the opp. best player around all day; unless they're actively avoiding the ball, he's going to get the pill.
He may be in his physical peak, but he’s played 24 AFL games, 2 as a defensive mid. He’s got plenty of room for growth.

I think there is room for growth in Cincotta’s offensive game, but for now he’s learning the ropes on some of the AFL’s most dangerous mids. Great for his development.

Whilst Butters still had 23 touches, 17 were handballs.
Every single time he got the ball, Cinc was right there, pressuring and effecting the disposal. Rushed touches, mostly from the centre bounce tap work that went his way.
CIncotta's strength for an endurance player is unique for a tagger. Built like a Bull

Frustrating first half, kept coughing it up and letting the downhill skier JHF do his thing. Made the most of kicking for goal, PA wasteful. Even contest.
Didn’t watch the second half for various reasons.
Really happy/relieved to see the outcome this morning.
Sets up our flag tilt.
JHF is a gun & who wouldn’t love him along side Cripps & Walsh in the mighty blues.

He’s fast, skilful & wreaks of generational talent.

BTW - it’s pretty hard to ski uphill, have you tried?

We look much better, dynamic & less predictable up forward with H&C roaming.

Important for Charles to get on his bike also - he kicks it beautifully to H from the wing.

Nicely building towards the pointy end.
Coached well, our style becoming 2nd nature. That thing where players know each others habits and work with it. And still so much can improve; Yes, Go the blueboys!

Fog is becoming the new Liam Jones - was on the scrap heap, not anticipated to make it beyond current contract term, does a 180 and becomes a vital player in the team.

Can I ask, where exactly do you get these stats from? They're great and I'd love to have a look myself. Thanks!

This is my spreadsheet, but you can get the stats from the AFL site or afltables or footywire.

Fog is a much more important player to our forward line than Jones is to our backline. We're doing fine without him.

Just couldn't get a feel for that game, and I did not see that last quarter coming

Impressive that we can switch styles in-game, from playing a turnover game (slightly better than Port), to brutalising them in the contest in the last

One thing that was consistent was our pressure throughout
