MILESTONE: Jack Martin 150 AFL Games

Our doomsday supporters...lol If you said take out TDK & Harry Acres Williams & cunners who play 5 mins along with a terrible run with injuries " all year " & still forth with really patchy form. I agree we lack big key position CHB to help Weiters out but there's still so much Quality out there & now is time to risk Martin now as we need that 3rd marking tall who competes & plays hard. Hoping to see Mckay, Acres, Martin & Boyd back this week & please someone pay attention to a Bloke named Pendlebury that towels us up every time. I'm backing Walsh & Chez to have big games. C'mon baggers let knock these bastards off !!!!!!

Sorry, but I get really tired of this. I have read through all the posts and the vast majority still believe. At best there are 2 or 3 possible "doomsday supporters" on here. People are (IMO with justification) questioning several areas for improvement or concern. That is fair. Certainly doesn't mean they don't believe we can win next week or a Grand Final

After the past month there are many questions to be answered. Many people have given possible solutions

I am all for positivity, it is my first reaction, BUT one thing I have really noticed since returning is how many people can now come on here and have decent discussion with different opinions. Some are very interesting

Just because you highlight areas of concern or issues DOES NOT mean you believe we can't win.

I believe we can still win it all BUT IMO, to do this we must address a couple of key issues. IMO that is not doomsday. that is reality and there is a big difference

If we can't get up for this game, to bury the Pies season and find something again ourselves, I think it's just about season over.

Never has a game against Collingwood felt more important than this one in the last decade.
This would be a close second to the final round in 2022

Not interested in any of these excuses for any loss.

The injuries one really perplexes me... last year we had more injury problems at this time of the year and we were still winning, including against top 4 sides.

The issue lies between the ears. Attitude and intent. Keep saying it every week, unfortunately it's been crap for a month...

Did we? Who were we missing?

From memory (could be wrong) I thought we started to get everyone back including Marchbank & Martin. Certainly weren't missing Doc & Jack and names like Hewett were flying

Irrespective of what we think of the Pies (and I hope they do lose!), congratulations to Pendelbury an amazing career.

Even though he is Collingwood he is an amazing player.

Proof you don't need leg speed when you see the game the way he does.

Credit where it's due (but it ain't easy)

It might be Pendleburys 400th (and I have to begrudgingly recognise how good he's been) but we have a history of upsetting the Pies big games
1992 100th anniversary
2017 125th anniversary

Keep it rolling boys

GO BLUES

I think Pendlebury and Collingwood will regret going another year. There have been signs this year. He is one medium injury away from retirement.
Forget injury, there have been big signs this year he's got too slow for the game. Have noticed he's been caught a lot this year.

Surprised by Martin, surely we offer him a year on a suitable contract? Point of difference on our list if he can get fit.

I'd personally be clearing out Cunners, Marchbank and Durdin, while taking a punt on Martin. Hopefully Moir can develop into that player but looks 1-2 years away and hasn't displayed any of Martin's tenacity or aggression to date.
Nobodies contract status would be decided yet. There's be whispers but no one has been told 'ya done champ'. What a stupid way to run a club that's challenging. You might need that player. You give them full support until you don't. You have to.

I'm feeling pretty pessimistic about this game, which is generally a good sign of us getting a result. I'll also be at another event so I won't be able to watch or keep up with the score, which is also a great sign that we will win.

As for the changes ... it's time to throw the magnets around a bit for mine. It all looks a little bit stale especially in the midfield. Essay incoming - if I were coaching this week, I'd make the following tweaks:
  • McKay, Boyd and Acres are obvious ins for Carroll, Kemp and Cuningham. Cottrell survives as sub.
  • I'm doubling down on our big bodied contested mids. Pitto has to make sure the ball doesn't get tapped outside.
  • Young stays in to take care of Cox. Follows him everywhere he goes on the ground - bench, forward, ruck. Quite frankly couldn't care less if Weitering doesn't like playing with him. As a leader, Weiters needs to help whoever the MC picks in the side to get the job done and Young is our best option in a position that has become an Achilles Heel for us.
  • Cincotta follows N. Daicos everywhere he goes except the toilet and centre bounces unless he starts killing us.
  • Walsh starts on a wing and drifts into stoppage as the extra number.
  • One of Saad, Gov, Boyd or Newman instructed to push up into the space vacated by Walsh to give extra run and carry.
  • Last roll of the dice on Martin.
  • Cerra back to the midfield ... in the reserves to find some form. I've seen enough of the half back experiment and he looks a shadow of himself. We can't carry him in the seniors while he's going this poorly.

Not what you said on the MB Preview thread :-

We're cooked. Time for the Pies to stick a fork in us.

That’s fair but was it one game or for an extended block?

We were just as depleted the game prior v the Saints.

The following rnd v Suns in GC we got Harry back but lost Fogarty. Harry didn't have much of an impact in first game back either.

And the week before the Saints was the game against Collingwood. Cerra out of the game at half time. Gov injured during that one as well. Everyone else I mentioned out, was also out for that one.

It was pretty much over a month where we were significantly depleted.

Okay. So missing those players but had Marchbank Martin Dow all up and running.

So, then what's the issue? Hunger, playing injured players, change in game plan, form?

It's obvious to me that we aren't playing with the same energy we were then. I'd like to know why

Good footballer, but so far up himself it's sickening, flog of a human.
Where on God's green earth did you form that opinion? Pendles is a champion person too. I'm genuinely curious if this is a vibe you just decided to extrapolate because he's collingwood or some actual event you experienced?

I think its the mindset. Like I've been saying, we've been talking about squad mentality, perform your role... we had players doing that then made some really bad decisions at selection that went against that message.

From there, the mindset has shifted. Players lost trust in the squad mentality, perform your role... now players feel like they really need to stand out to remain in. Hence the more selfish play that we're seeing. Then to compound that, the players brought in are out of form and haven't regained it in a month. Just my opinion.

Very possible. I hope we can turn it around
