The drag in was bad. But otherwise he was very good. Very solid.

I'm usually sympathetic to players who drag it in when the ball is highly contested.

The alternative is leaving the ball on the ground for the opposition to grab.

A wins a wins a win. We played quite poorly but the great sides find a way to win and that's what we did.

Kudos to Charlie and Cripps who both stood up and turned the game our way. Especially Charlie who was down early but worked so hard to get back into the game.

TDK an amazing effort to beat the on fire Luke Jackson who had more of it but TDK 328 metres gained compared to Jackson 27. De Koning continues to grow with every game and is starting to have a huge impact in the big moments. He stands up when it counts. Has become very influential in getting us over the line.

Umpires are embarrassing and I reckon it was touched. But Freo folk seem to forget they got gifted 5 goals from frees and managed 9.

We had more scoring shots.

Reality is when you play a negative depressing brand you deserve all you get.
6*

Looked like it was between his shoulder and neck. Wasn’t high Fyfe played for it and did look high from the broadcast position camera angle but wasn’t high
The shot from his right shows Fog hitting him about shoulder height, and Fyfe grabbing his throat and falling over.

Won't dare name anyone, but have a look at the 'game day' thread and pick all the naysayers declaring we'd lost, during the third quarter mind you, and then read their comments in this thread!! It's always the same posters, which I won't name, but you know who you are, and so do we......the true (read Blue) believers

80 tackles is a fair achievement, with 24 in the forward 50. 16 contested marks is also massive.
I thought our effort was good but our ability to take the ball first touch cleanly and hit a target by hand was really sub par.
Hopefully we can tidy that up and Walsh’s return can’t come soon enough.

Did you notice the brain farts from Acres and Newman today as well?
It's been so long since I've seen someone drag it back in like that in front of goal that it was blindingly obvious. As others have said though there was plenty to like about Kemps game and not as many obvious brain fades so that's a big step forward.

If E. Hollands is out next week it might be an opportunity to bring Marchy back and give Kempy a run as 3rd tall up forward against the Crows.

We are not a perfect side. But neither is anyone else.

The best ways to beat that Freo game style are with pace and good kicking. Neither of those are our strong suits. The other way is to make the most of forward 50 entries. But our mid to small forwards are pretty ordinary. Again, I didn’t see much to suggest that E Hollands is the answer. But we will see how he comes back from injury.

All I am trying to say is that they have a game plan which almost uniquely exploits our vulnerabilities. But we still came through with the goods.

Our weaknesses hopefully become less pronounced with Walsh, Motlop, and Martin back in the team.

Had 1 or 2 suspect moments, but I thought that was Kemp's best game for the club

His body work off the ball, holding his opponent out of a marking contest and or allowing a teammate to intercept was amazing
True, his one moment was when he dragged it back in in front of goal, but he should have received a free kick for over the shoulder in the marking contest, causing him to go off with the blood rule

Overall he played a great game

I thought Carroll tried to make things happen. He had 20 touches in a team where no one had more than 25, but he had to battle in red hot, stuffy contests where our whole midfield struggled. He'll be better for the experience.

Having a fit George Hewett is amazing though. No one in our team had more than 3 clearances, except George who had 8, as well as half a dozen tackles.

I don’t think they were dominant. I think they did great in getting the game on their terms. Killed us in clearances, etc. They executed their plans great.

It’s nice that opposition teams now worry about OUR weapons. Freo know they cannot go toe to toe with us. So I think they “played better” than us today, and yet we won.

Great signs. Learnings whilst winning.
Freo’s performance today reminded me of Bolts parking the bus against good teams and coming away with a nice honourable loss

A real lack of composure today with a maddening insistence on the play-on handball even where they were just handballing into danger. It wasn't working.

This isn't the time of year to be in peak form, but we're hardly flying at 4-0.

Also, surely a new team rule regarding playing on within 20m of goal?

Have banged on about it all preseason but this afternoon put my case on a platter;
Zac Williams should play as a Fwd/Mid. That kick in the last Qtr to Charlie was absolutely massive.
He knows how to use the ball and always puts it to advantage.
Now that Elijah is injured I think the option to play mid/forward needs to be looked at again.
