Do you actually believe it's a 7 $million Contract ......not a chance in hell

I think there is every chance. Port HAD to win Luko signature. An absolute priority. If Adelaide got him then outside Will Hayward the Crows had every significant Adelaide Elite forward talent in the league - and A graders in any area are hard to get (as we have seen with our failed midfield offers).
He was just a non negotiable so yes could easily be a mill

We'll ontrade that for 2 late 1st.
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand. Don't you already have access to a quality second player way above your picks available? Why would you be throwing draft capital away unnecessarily? See the following about Sam Marshall on Cal Twomey's latest phantom draft by scrolling down to 23.

"Marshall has gone somewhat under the radar but the Lions are getting a second good one through their doors alongside Levi Ashcroft. The Academy product was excellent in Sunday's Coates Talent League clash for the Dragons, having 27 disposals and booting a terrific goal after dodging some opponents. Finding the ball comes easy for the 185cm midfielder, who averaged 27 disposals (nearly 10 contested) for the Allies at the carnival."

Yeah we're going to need a lot of points for Levi and Marshall we can't get both with pick 18 or whatever the last pick of the 1st round turns out to be and I'm pretty sure we don't have a 1st round pick this year from the dunkley trade and I have no idea what the points will turn out to be but I'm assuming it'll be a lot.

Probably have to trade Rayner to make it work, probably need to look towards GC

We need to seriously have a look and try to pry Zac Bailey out of Brisbane! With Levi Ashcroft coming in next year and with their stacked midfield I reckon he’d be looking at more midfield time and we are certainly one side that can offer it to him. A goal kicker midfielder that is playing out of position at the Lions, looks very gettable.

I’d be jumping on the phone to him (if they haven’t already) in the next couple of days and offer him whatever he wants.
Agree that lions players should be a target

Adding Levi Ashcroft Sam Marshall and Dan Annable in next 15 months - elite midfielders all of them

Selection and cap squeeze coming up

That reputation is why we hired him in the first place.

It’s a shame he can’t develop a decent game plan.
To be fair, the same was said of Fagan and Hinkley, who are similar "team unifying" coaches as Nicks.

You do need coaches who are focussing on strategy - but it doesn't necessarily need to be the man at the top.

The issue comes when there aren't enough coaches as part of the support team, which was our clear problem.

He's saying the opposite. He'd trade the early first for two later picks to get more points

I'm not a Soccer aficionado ......but isn't that basically the role of the modern Soccer Manager ?

That said, the basic gameplan has to be established, so recruiting & development know the end goal

You reckon Nicks doesn’t think that highly of himself that he’d let anyone else take care of strategy.

No chance, he’s up himself big time.

Interesting that WaynesWorld19 has liked your post where you’re basically saying Nicks need help with strategy.

The irony is their list management strength is essentially the root cause of their inability to win finals.

Every team has a great top 6 players in their 22. But more often then not it's the bottom 6 that let your team down. Port have an exceptional top 6, but their bottom 6 are a liability, especially when the heat is turned up.

If the rumoured Luko numbers are accurate, that's not getting easier in the next 5 years IMO

Do we have a great top 6? Dawson, Rankine...... Hopefully Soligo, Fog & TT get there. Keays back half possibly in his role but we also need a full year of Rankine. No way we have a great top 6 yet.

If you don't have a strategic mindset, then you better be a genius game day decision maker.

Unfortunately, Nicks is neither. Lacks strategy and does not make the right calls, on game day or selection. He only has one lever and that's the "effort" lever, which he believes so strongly in and clouds his other decisions.

This basically just makes him the "father figure" and paying a head coach to be a "fatherly figure" is the biggest waste of money. This is argue could/should be someone else outside the coach.

It would be like us having direct access to Draper, Dodson and Sharp in consecutive drafts...quite some leg up eh
