Most likely because we had shown interest in previous years and Powa hadn't, so when the time came we were his choice?
Yes I do believe that is why he chose us (similar to Cumming), I'm just surprised Port were caught off guard and didn't at least attempt an offer (or maybe they did and we never heard about it).

Honestly, with the squad we have built and are adding to, we have key backs to go with the big key forwards and we have mid sized defenders who can lock down the oppo small forwards. We have key forwards that can hit the scoreboard and we certainly have small forwards who can cause real problems for the opposition. We are bringing in a pick 4 mid we all assume, to go with a group of promising mids we already have. Get the structures and the game plan right and this group 'should' be moving on up the ladder.

Why not make the call at senior level to say we have greatly underperformed where the talented young list should have been trending and change the coach and freshen up a couple of the line coaches as its at this level we are stuck in neutral. It would be a great shame to burn more years of the list we have / are building under a coach that can't get them playing consistently good footy
I firmly believe that we'd be in finals contention next year with a good coach. Dowling/Taylor/Soligo/Sholl/Rankine all showed improvement in the middle third of the ground this year, arguably our weakest area (and Nank should be playing more on a wing next year, too), while our already solid forward and defensive lines each have been strengthened with a new recruit. All areas (bar ruck) should continue to gel and improve

If we had a head coach/line coaches who could develop an effective, fast-moving gameplan whilst prioritising the correct players, we'd be able to make some solid ground. But we'll very likely be restricted again. I guess the hope is that Montgomery (if he's who we're getting) shakes things up a bit

Yeah sounded like at the time of trade request, we had an inkling it could happen, while PA didn't know anything about the situation

Still hope we can convince Melb to take an F2 for him

People rave about Port's list management, but they're having an absolute stinker so far. Could it be related to Chris Davies leaving for Collingwood and being a bit distracted with that? Little bit suss that Davies is heading for Collingwood and suddenly they're super interested in Perryman at the last second.

Nicks isn't a father figure though. He just threw one of his players under the bus in the media and encouraged other senior players to do similar.

He's nothing like Fagan in that respect who seems extremely supportive of his players at all times

Spot on.

You keep all that stuff behind closed doors - if the media ask then just state it has been dealt with in house.

The problem is the likes of Laird just inflamed the position in his weekly media spot and then everyone afterwards tried to negate the position (with no consistent response either).

Not sure what's up with that. Definitely seems like something that could be classified as a conflict of interest, but surely Davies wouldn't so obvious as to go less hard at Perryman? It sounds like Port's high-value contract is still on the table

Either way, if they decide to trade Houston and only get back Luko, it won't help their contending chances

Except all the young players re-sign and seem very committed to the club. It's obviously a happier place, and maybe the younger players wanted their father figure to show a bit of discipline?

Look, we're not inside the club. We're just fans, living vicariously through the achievement and failures of others. I'm just saying there's a few ways to view it.

He did it after R23 ffs.

Would he have done it at say R10? I think not.

Young players re-resign. Which ones this year?

I think he wants a style where you push an extra mid up to the contest, and provide a lot of pressure around the contest to try and have a quick turnover and rebound style, to allow for high percentage shots on goal. Less entries but higher quality with a strong forward unit that can maximize the entries they get. More turnover than interception focused.

You can see that when it works. I guess the problem is when we don't maintain pressure - and pushing an extra mid up seems to be solving a problem that would better addressed by higher quality mids and a better clearance game.

I’ll tell you what, with a forward line with 4 1st round picks plus Walker, you actually would want them to perform.

The problem is we lack quality that can deliver the ball to them ala Laird etc.
