No, I base opinions on my own eyes ....plus the Fantasy Community is so much more knowledgeable on players from all Clubs than

Obviously your experience level is quite low on the subject

And BTW ....no-one is choosing Laird this year ...so again the community is ahead of the curve
I like your weird views, but this is a bit embarassing.

That's a bit of a shallow analysis - how many minutes are they actually trusting him with? They're consistently giving time to other ruckman as well.

He's getting games, but not full responsibility by any means. They don't seem to trust him.
Where they play him on the ground is irrelevant. Right now, they play him when they can, so to say they ‘don’t seem to want him’ is just incorrect

If anything, it suggests they rate his versatility (whether he actually is or not)

Is what you are saying based off of anything?

I know the Draper to Crows stuff is only based off of BF rumours (plus a bit of Twomey talk), but I haven’t seen anything that suggests the Bombers don’t want to retain him
It's not just a BF rumour. It was also reported by Callum Twomey on the AFL website.

I highly doubt that was anything more than speculation by Twomey given Draper's a South Aussie, his upcoming RFA status and that our aging ruck stocks including Strachan having recently more or less proven his endurance was never likely to be AFL standard.

Maybe. I suspect he was fed information by Draper's manager, possibly just a well proven contract negotiating tactic.

No, nothing outwardly, though regardless of what happens behind closed doors, a team will typically say they want to keep a player. After all why mess up any leverage you have? However, I wonder if Essendon's resolve here is less than expected. After all, their usage of Draper (well, all of their rucks) is odd and Draper is currently in no-mans-land as a player. Equally, I wouldn't expect the situation to improve next year with Bryant/Goldstein also picking off minutes.

I do not doubt though that the rumours were circulated by Drapers management to test the waters with Essendon. I do wonder if even a reasonable FA contract here (something in the 2nd band of FA contracts) is something Essendon is willing to sign if Draper doesn't spike in performance this year.

Because there's cat b spots left over and there aren't main list spots left?

Why keep a cat b spot empty?
All our successful cat B rookies had played a shedload of AFL before taking up other sports i.e. Alex Keath who would have gone high in the draft going on his Murray Bushrangers junior form (was drafted to the Suns as a 17 year old), Hugh Greenwood and Ricky Henderson, not one of the cat B rucks we drafted have looked like ever being AFL footballers have they?

I wouldn't worry too much about Draper being a possibility, Justin Reid's lastest podcast he was on talked about poaching a Goad, Barnett, Dodson, anyone on a cheap contract who will hopefully be ready to step up

We won't overpay for a Ruck, better off trying to find a state Ruck like Harry Boyd then overpay 1mil-1.5mil for a semi useless position

What would be better: TDK + an average mid engine or the best mid in the league + Harry Boyd

There's a reason why Saints aren't rucking Marshall full time going forward, Ross the Boss is going play him mostly forward this year.. because you don't pay for Rucks, someone else mentioned NFL - running backs, I thought that was a fantastic comparison - get too injured and aren't very valuable in getting to the final dance (GFs)

I'd love for us to go find a junior basketballer or similar and give them a cat B spot.
It sounds good in theory, but Mason Cox is the only cat b ruck to have made it as a footballer. Lots of swings and misses.

Still, doesn't cost anything to swing. So long as we also chase other options.

Then educate yourself

As a Business Consultant, there's a golden rule .....give free advice, and no-one listens
Charge the Client $3K a day, and they follow every word you say
No, I find people listen to my advice whether they are paying for it or for free, given I'm the best at what I do in the country. That's all based on reputation earned over decades Wayne!

Eg. Korda Mentha were brought in to fix CALHN & charged crazy high rates that i won't disclose... then got found out as they couldn't deliver as they don't have a reputation in the industry.

I judge people on their actions, but usually only takes 1 meeting to work out whether they know that they are talking about or full of fluff.

I didn't say the Fantasy format ...my comments pertain to SuperCoach, which is the purest assessment of a player's impact
You may be great in the fantasy world of SuperCoach, but you struggle to analyse players in reality...

Statistics only tell you so much.

So we're limiting ourselves to only what we've managed to do before - the vast majority of which has been a failure?

What about other clubs who have succeeded with Cat B's?

There are a lot of kids from African backgrounds who have focused on soccer but are incredible athletes, or tall kids who have focused on basketball and only played footy in the school yard.

There seems little downside in a tall project taking that last cat b spot that isn't being used otherwise.

True. Someone like Dean Brogan would have been cat b if he happened now, though.

I think it's worth a throw at the stumps - though you're right, success rate is and would be low.

Bottom line is you build your reputation on your actions.

Wayne clearly is awesome at the fantasy footy, has contacts through SEN, but wouldn't say he is the best judge of actual football.

You have a good reputation for following younger players coming through... & love of Sky News views & the conservative arm of the coalition.

We are what we are & it's what others judge us on for better or worse.
