The answer to the question of who Luko would replace in our best 22 is probably Tex. With Tex likely retired (or coerced into retirement by the club), a position opens up in the forward line - alongside Fog and Thilthorpe.

Welsh will be on the list next year, but it's highly unlikely that he walks straight into the best 22. Berg is probably going to GWS as a FA. Gollant & Burgess are useless, and at least one of them should be gone at year's end. That leaves only Toby Murray, who hasn't been seen at AFL level yet.

If Walker does retire (voluntarily or otherwise) then there is a logical case for chasing Luko. I don't like it, because I see him as being soft and flaky, the very antithesis of a finals footballer. I don't like it, but I do understand the logic behind it.

Even so, I don't think the club would be stupid enough to overpay for a deeply flawed player like Luko, who is likely to be pushed out by his existing club.

A creative coach could do something with Thilthorpe, Fogarty, Lukosius and Tex in the same team. All are supreme kicks of the footy. The first three also athletic enough to provide plenty of options.

PS. After seeing Oliver’s performance against Port last night, not so keen on him if those rumours are still floating about.

Oliver’s foot skills are no better than Laird

It’s a long season and we’ve seen how trash we are (Suns and Richmond games as key examples) when we’re missing two of Walker/Fogarty/Thilthorpe.

Makes sense to get Lukosius in.

Just need to be using #4 on the best possible mid - I’m on the Langford train.

It will be a 10-15 year excuse that I'll have. The decision to back flip on the rules will impact on the dees for over a decade. The AFL should be giving us a public apology and recognition.
Speaking to the converted here. We’d be looking quite sweet with Noah Anderson in the midfield.

Everyone's a bit biased though. He probably legitimately believes James Frawley was worth pick 3 compo.

Yes, your last sentence is why I made that comment back in 2019.

Look, your contact's smoke and mirrors theory may be correct. The first I heard of Luko's current line was actually a couple of years ago from a third party, a mate of Rob's who I met randomly at a country cricket club and who had no idea who I was. At the time I was surprised. I subsequently had the same comments made to me by Rob himself on 2 seperate occasions, most recently earlier this year.

Regardless, it seems the winds have changed now that Jack seems on the outer with Hardwick. If we are one of a few suitors, it will be interesting to see how the cards fall.
If Hardwick doesn't rate him, hope we don't pay too much in terms of the trade.

Oliver looks like a guy playing at a club he doesn't want to be at.

Dees blocked his trade request last year.

His performance this year drops his trade value.

A preseason with Burgess and being at the club he wants to be at, he will back to his best.

Paer living rent free in a lot of posters head’s in this thread.

We’ve done just fine with the last few players we brought in through trades.

Don’t get so worried about having players that want to come to Adelaide being “stolen” from us.

Usually they end up where they want to end up. Not many times where a player is legitimately available to both clubs … that work is done waaay in advance.

If we or the power have locked in a player like Luko or Cumming or Perryman then nothing either club does in the next few months is going to change that.

Right?
