No, read my post again …

Kicks 5 goals in a game we get owned in - go back and look at those goals, I bet they fit his normal pattern.

When it matters is kinda key.

I watch A LOT of football, and have done for about 40 years.

I doubt anyone watches Luko and thinks “that’s what we need right now”. Not saying he wouldn’t be a useful upgrade to some if the spuds were have in our squad … but he isn’t the type of player we should be targeting with our available cash/picks. Imo.

I read it. And then I read it again. Its still as stupid as it was the first time I read it.

You said he had NEVER dominated an opponent. I would say that kicking 5+ goals on four separate occasions in the past 2 years qualifies as that.

How do we not need him? The only player that has kicked more goals than he did in 2023 since 2018 will be 35 to start next season.

I just can't fathom that anyone with a brain can say that Luko does not improve us. We haven't made the finals since 2017 and have spuds like Murphy playing 22 games. JFC.

Yep, most of the panel didn't think he was even currently worth Pick 27 at this stage, particularly with the quality of this draft.

IMO his only hope is to develop into a Tom Lynch type player. He doesn't have the frame to be a key defender, we're flush for 3rd talls, up both ends of the ground, particularly with Welsh coming in...
we're flush with mediocre third talls, welsh won't be the answer immediately. Tex is cooked, filling the third key forward slot is a need for us and Luko is a point of difference compared to the ones we have, which are all just worse versions of Fog or Thilthorpe

They won’t get ahead of us and they don’t need mids imo.
Cal Twomey dropped yesterday very emphatic late that Houston will play for Melbourne next year for Melbs 7
and then intimated that could be used to get both Perryman and Cummings.

Normally good mail.
Both are free agents so they don't need to pay anything if the contracts are high enough that GWS won't match. Now take that pick 7 if they get it - its only 3 above us. They have their 2025 F1 they can add in and WCE and maybe North may be open to trading picks. IF Houston is gone, then I think they are absolutely going to make a play to get in ahead of us to get Draper who would be their absolute no 1 target. People saying they don't need mids - rubbish, another elite projecting mid to add with Butters, JHF and Rozee will make them even harder to beat and they know it. Hope i am wrong.

I think he meant that Houston's salary could be used to get Perryman as a Free Agent.

Perryman is maybe 90% of the player Houston is, AND they'd have pick 7.

I very much doubt the top few picks will be traded as the premium would be huge... which is crazy in supposedly an even draft at the top end.

Houston more than likely gone. Very astute from Port if they get Perryman (likely too). Watch them manoeuvre past us in the draft while we sit on our hands. You know it will happen.
We are looking like we will have pick 4, so they would need to get a top 3 pick to get in front of us at the draft. Which top 3 pick do you see them getting access to via trade? I can't see Richmond or Eagles trading down, maybe North? Port would need to give up a lot to get that deal done.

I think you are underestimating Port here. IF they get pick 7, in an even top end of the draft, whats to say a side like WCE or North may say, ok we are happy to trade down to stay in the top 7 and still get a great kid and pick up the extra 1st rounder (ports F1). Port - IF they are after Draper, I would not put it past them to pay overpay if they had to

We should have traded Laird 3 years ago. That’s the kind of shrewd list management good clubs carry out. It takes courage to trade chad wingard and Dan Houston in their prime. But you can get greatly rewarded for doing so.
Only problem with that is the player has to be agreeable if contracted and if uncontracted they hold the aces as to where they go.

Yes, brain fart re pre agency. Don’t agree on the mids or them trying to get to 1,2 or 3 .

This poor development stuff is getting a bit old. RT, Fog, Murray, Worrell, Butts and even Borlase have all developed nicely as KP players on our list.

On top of that, Tex has worked very closely with RT and Fog and would have already been working with Welsh this year too, can't get a better mentor than that.

Now do the midfielders.

PA trading is always better than ours. How do they always manage to have cap money to do deals?

They have always been ok with throwing darts at the board to see if they can get the hit - we have been generally far more conservative. Some work and some don't. But its telling they have traded in most of their KPP's and gone to the draft to take top end mids. Draper is the one they want - mark it down and they will make a big play if Houston can be convinced to leave for the right pick deal.

That's a bit hard given he's been driven off by the posters who kept giving him a hard time for seeing things different to them.
That’s not fair.
He saw things different to himself only an hour apart.
He got shown up time and again, saying he wouldn’t be happy if x played then an hour later when x was picked he was agreeing with the club.
If you’re going to be like that you deserve to have things pointed out.

Any word on Tex's future?

I have to admit. For the first time i'm genuinely ok with him not getting another 1 year contract. I wouldn't burn the club down if he did, but I also feel like he's starting to show signs that the cliff is approaching.

As much as i'd love him as a 1 club legend, and 300 gamer. I'd hate to see him go 1 year too long in the tri-stripe.

Would signal a rebuild to me if Port traded Houston

Contending teams don't trade contracted 27 year olds in their prime, especially if they are among their best players

Good clubs plan ahead. We plan for this weekend and this weekend only.

We should look at our list, see where we have an excess of players, and trade out players that have some value.

Right now we have an excess of players that can play as an inside mids. So, we should be looking to trade one of them out.
If we keep Berry, we should trade Laird or Crouch. Whilst neither will attract a top end pick, both will at least offer some return.
We could look at multiple positions and make the same decisions.
