Montgomery makes sense if he's still in running for WC job.
Montgomery comes in as coaching director & both Nicks & Burns are demoted to assistant coaches. ;)

caroline wilson saying thats not correct. theres very little noise about luko fullstop
"ITK" Port Power supporters mentioned he has tour their facility but I don't think they have the salary cap of $2M for the next 2 years and also draft capital to get him which is why a F1 has now being mentioned as our would be more attractive to GCS.

Sport is all about peaking at the right time.

Olympic athletes train to be at the peak of their fitness and form at the exact moments to ensure maximum chances of success in the big events (worlds, olympics, comm games etc.).

I remember being told around the time of the 97/98 that the bulk of the credit behind the scenes for the 97/98 GF victories was given to Neil Craig who had the team peak at exactly the tight time.. scrape into the final 8 but with a team on the cusp of top fitness and form.

most of the credit from joe public obviously went to Blighty..
Well, after Blight left and all the others remained we won bugger all, even though we had a bunch of HoF'ers in their prime.

Once again - if the club was even remotely 'Aggressive' - they would (behind the scenes) tell Luko and his manager that 'You've got 48 hours' to make a decision if you are interested in joining the Crows otherwise we are moving on. He can give Izak a quick call if needed to know more about the place etc.

Can't be wasting this much time with a player being this flaky.

then again - would be a very AFC thing to do to pay overs for him. :drunk:

Amazing isn't it .....the board constantly blows up on nepotism for ex Crows players ....yet here we are advocating Rutten come back to the Crows as an assistant Coach

Why? .....give me a reason ....because all I can see is hypocrisy
AFL Premiership winning assistant coaching experience elsewhere

vs

Brent Reilly, recently appointed as coach of the Henley Sharks

Is the difference. One is pure nepotism, the other isn't.

Rutten obviously didn't cut it as a senior coach but clearly did well at Richmond as an assistant and must have been the same at Essendon seeing as they promoted him.

He's had a decade out of our system.

Nicks is already a petulant coach, just imagine how much worse he'd be if we demoted him but still retained him

I feel like that whole Essendon thing was a complete shitshow and can be in part disregarded.

We are like Essendon in so many ways, destroying capable peoples careers is one of those things

If Luko goes public ans says its us and our F1 is part of the deal, we have to work 25 in there as well and do a package deal with a good pick back and get the deal done first. Melbourne can then take what scraps we have left
Luko can go public and say that he's chosen us. He has no say in what deal GC & Adelaide negotiate in order to make that happen. He certainly can't dictate which draft picks Adelaide uses to make it happen.

Who knows, but the question probably isn't "what does Melbourne want"?

I'm sure they want 25 for ANB.
What's generally reported is that "the deal is as good as done". Presumably then, Melbourne know what the deal will be. Thus, if he has good contacts within the MFC (and I don't know whether he does or not), it's entirely possible that he could be privy to the deal's details - all without having a ****ing clue what's going on within the walls at West Lakes.

I'd love this as a starting point for the coaching (Once again, as we were too weak to move on Nicks)... It's not even Playstation territory stuff.

Senior Asstnt (big pay increase): Rahilly (see yah Scotty)
Football GM: Montgomery (See yah Kelly)
Coaching/Football Director (Part time): Balme (go away Roo)

SANFL Coach: Van Berlo (please go Godden, please...)

Literally doing this CANNOT make us any worse....

Yep. Didn't they get busted making an offer to Clarkson while Rutten was still coaching? Then Clarko told them their offer was too late to be considered. Shit show.

A mark against Rutten for poor judgement in going there I guess.

Though that poor judgement is what's needed to get him back!

Rahilly didn't move back to Geelong because of money, he moved back for family/lifestyle reasons.

That ain't happening.

Do a 'Costa' style deal and look after his family off the books but just dont Tippett it up. Screw Geelong over, those pricks do it all the time.

Invest in someone LONG term, give him security and a seriously hefty $$ increase.

Pretty damn good lifestyle reasons for me. Not alot of difference between Victor Harbour or Apollo Bay (for example) in reality when you get down to it :$

We simply have to move away from this constricting, conservative, 'little brother' mindset.

I never meant he would..I am saying from our end if we are putting our F1 on the table, add in our pick 25 and try and get a meaningful pick back maybe 13 and that would put us in a hitting position for one of the sliders or the best of the next group AND it removes pick 25 from melbourne asking for it.

There was a bit of analysis during the year, in the media, might've been 5aa of the Crows coaching roster versus other clubs and we were pathetically minimal in comparison. I can see us retaining most of what we've got and getting extras rather than doing swap outs.

Hands down, we would have the cheapest group of Coaches and Football GM in the AFL.... Its actually embarrassing.

Like, we wouldn't even be close to the 'Soft Cap'.... Outside of D Burgess, we must be so far under the soft cap the AFL must be paying us.

This pathetic small minded "but... but... we can't attract anyone... :drunk: " excuse is such loser mentality complacency.

If Geelong can attract players to live near farms in bum****ville 2 hours out of Melbourne, Adelaide can attract players. Its not Adelaide - its the useless inept people trying to convince them that's the problem.
