Kangaroos play waiting game

By Peter Ryan

North Melbourne are waiting to see what eventuates with Gold Coast’s pick 13 and therefore their potential to be seriously involved in Dan Houston race before being in a position to make decisions on Caleb Daniel offer.

Western Bulldogs know something could come through pipeline for Daniel once resolution on pick 13.

The Magpies have had the inside running on pick 13 all along, but have yet to get it in their hands, with the onus on new list boss Justin Leppitsch to get that deal done.

the following needs to be told to Brady pick 25 and future first are off limits

You can trade pick 44,62, a future second, future 3rd and consider a split pick 2

that’s it
so further to this
62 and future 4th for parker or 44 for parker and konstanty
future 3rd for caleb daniel otherwise walk away (maybe you consider future second for daniel and future 3rd)
split pick 2 with tigers for 6 and 11

walk away from houston

hit the draft with 6,11 and 25 and 1 of 44/62 depending on above parker deal

Gee, that reads a lot different to the Tom Morris tweet doesn't it...

i can’t keep up with the pace of this thread today. Just tell me, should I be nervous? Should I be on the sack bradys train?
Both?
Nothing to worry about?

**** it.

Yep and the only pick of recent years we have in that range that at this stage can be considered a near definite success is Paul Curtis. The others either haven’t shown enough yet/too early to call or don’t look like being at AFL level.

It all comes down to how long we think Daniel will be in our side and improve it.
Don’t go off our draft history. That’s why we are where we are. Our drafting has to be better or else we might as well shut up shop.

Media reports are conflicting. Just wait until things actually happen.

Nope, not outside the top few. Forgive me for taking the super-draft thing with a grain of salt. It's trotted out most years, so at a certain point I stop biting. Anyway, 25 becomes 30 or thereabouts after all the usual shenanigans
25 may become 30 but we’ll still have the 25th best AVAILABLE talent to pick. How don’t people understand this still lol.

That's actually not totally true... some academy and FS may not be taken if the bids come early and are deemed too much to be matched

You're not getting a chance to pick the 25th best player in the pool, you're only getting the 25h best in the available pool. So the pick itself is devalued, even if the group of players available to you doesn't change.

Eg - pick 1 wouldn't be as valuable if the best five players in the draft were all father sons.

Sure. But if all our posturing over the draft being compromised is worth anything at all, then surely having pick 25 and having to accommodate for other teams to swoop in and pick up their locked-in players is automatically less than ideal. Theoretically there could be eleven blokes in the top twenty tied to certain teams, and that would make the best 'available' talent look a bit sad, in comparison. Plus, it's all a dart-throwing exercise anyway. Maybe we'll pick someone good, maybe we won't. Right now, I don't think we have a shortage of young talent and do think we have a shortage of senior quality, and don't think that the next Sheezel, or young lynchpin, will be likely at all to be picked by us at pick 31 or whatever, but maybe that's just me

Gun key forwards and gun midfield beasts win grand finals. Small fwds and half back flankers get you into finals and then they get exposed when shit gets real.

Exhibit A hawthorn
Exhibit B Sydney
Exhibit C Port Tarpelaide

Diluting pick 2 and / or what will be pick 3-6 with 4-8 wins if ole mate Housten is racking up 30 on a back flank in 2025 is delusional short term Rubbish

Pick 2 is a generational club changing pick
Kelly
Petracca
Schache
Taranto
Bradshaw
Lukosius
Anderson
Tilthorpe
Darcy
Ashcroft
McKercher

Houston ain't at that level.

Unfortunately due to how shit we are we have to offer over's no matter what

You guys just need to lower your expectations.

I just assume Brady will trade all of our picks for some beans so I am going to be pleasantly surprised if we end up with anything more than some magic beans.

Was the “AVAILABLE” in all capitals not clear enough?

We won’t even have academy kids on our board, one player we did have on our board in the top 25 will be available though.

That could be Faull, either of the Whitlocks, Gerreyn etc. just from a KPF perspective. I’d rather take that throw at the dart board to find Larkey a long term partner at the spot.

All for Daniel, but not at a stupid cost. And 25 is ****ing ridiculous.

I don't think we're planning on using 25. Bringing the F1 forward and splitting 2. Three picks inside 20 or two plus Houston.

River late pick or another project player.
If we aren't planning to us 25 in a really deep draft we are dumber than I think we are.
