l would take #15 and #16 for our F1st and then Give the Tiggers Pick #2 for #6 and #10/#11 so we end up with either

#6, #10, #15 and #16
or
#6, #11, #15 and #16
If we have 15 & 16 we don't have any pressing want to trade #2.

We could still get a good mid with 6 and have an extra pick either with 10 or 11 especially with such an even draft...

l still believe in getting two for the price of one is the better option...if we already have 15 and 16..

It's a good point that needs to be repeated.

Just because it's the same pool, doesn't mean you get a player of comparable quality.

Pick 2 might only move for Ashcroft.

6 could move that same single pick, but 10 could move 3-4 spots.

It's really going to be 3 for 7 & 13-14
And once again it doesn’t matter because those going at those fictitious picks above us will not be available to us through their ties to other clubs.

13-14 doesn’t matter when neither of Lombard, Ashcroft or Kako aren’t feasibly accessible

I'm amazed how many on here would do this. Were they not alive during the Scott years? Not having premium draft picks and instead settling for picks in the teens is what got us into this mess in the beginning.
Yep. Only twice in the last 10 drafts have the players picked at 15 and 16 outperformed the player picked at pick 2 in the corresponding draft. No thanks.

It would be an almighty coup if we pulled off 15 and 16 for F1. But for 13 alone we were looking to trade f1 (plus extras) to GC so I’d be astonished if GWS agreed to this when there is negligible difference between 13 and 15 in this draft.

I'd forgotten about that. The coke bit that is, I knew he was fat. But he had a great year in VFL with the new ruck rules.

If X goes down we don't have anyone who can ruck, our best option could be Maley - which is pretty dire.
Teaks mate.

Looked serviceable in the ruck at least.

Question. And apologies if it’s been mentioned before.
If LDU does leave and we don’t match the offer as a UFA , and we trade out our 1st Rounder next year ,that’s likely to be a top 4 pick , for picks for this season , do we only get a pick after our first pick ? Potentially something around 21/22 ?
Or do we have to keep our early pick to get another early pick , say pick 4 and 5.
I’m unsure of the ruling

It would still be tied to ladder position regardless of where of picks had been traded to.

It works off ladder position.
The only way we'd be getting pick 20+ is if we win the premiership

In a supposed great draft - why are gws going to hand over 15-16 for a future pick

Because it will be a top 4 pick next year. Regardless of how good this draft is, I don’t want to do that trade. I would rather trade pick 2 for 6 & 18 with Richmond and keep our F1.

Yeah that's a good call. But wonder if we're a little compromised by signalling we looking to split and slide. Eg, say Carlton want FOS, and tiges take Smith at 1, kind of signals the player we really wan't isn't FOS....the slide a bit but not too far could be Tauru, Armstrong, Smillie, even,,,,but most likely not FOS, Draper, Smith, or possibly Langford or Lalor who most seem to think are #1 contenders (maybe not Draper but most would suggest ahead of the 6ish spot we're prepared to slide to). That then signals to say Melbourne a handful of players we are indeed after and they get in ahead of us at 5. Im kind of for holding 2, unless for a godfather offer, and just take the player we want and try to trade futures into the draft. Against that though is if there are a few players available around there where we are genuinely indifferent between! Dunno, will be intriguing, but I sure as hell hope Caleb Daniel is best on ground every week, and is a genuine bnf contender.
Yep. I was thinking if we moved our F2 before the draft, then that removes the supposed "they need to split" leverage.
But the downside to this would be moving our F1 if we wanted to becomes tougher unless we get a F2 back in the deal.
So we'll see what happens. If we get what we want in a deal, we might do it before, but I suspect the AFL will want the "draft night trade" excitement, even though most deals have probably been agreed on before it lol.

Maybe, maybe not.

There are no guarantees, and I think people are reading way too much into the "even" draft. It still has a pointy end like any other and if teams want to trade for pick 2 that should tell us to be very careful about whether that is in our best interests. We already have a mountain of young players on our team. Yes we need some KPP developing depth, but nothing we draft for that this year will make a lick of difference in the short term.

I would generally agree because its a top 5 pick next year even with 6-8 wins.
But we should be open to anything if it gets us the players we want. Teams trading F1's will become frequent to get kids in the teens as these academy and F/S bids are going to push 2nd rounders back into mid/late 20's by the looks of it.
Two years of trading futures opens up lots of possibilities as well. Freo's 14 and F1 is another option vs GWS 15/16.
