I miss the annual Scotts Avatar round.

Maybe we bring it back this year?..

Well both clubs will need to bring in a Scott twin, shotgun Chris.

Pose a question/what if:

If we only uses picks 2 and 64 and use it on whoever draftee we want at those picks.
K.Dawson is promoted to the primary list.
This leaves 1 x primary list spot open and 2 x Cat A Rookies.
Of the Rookies, they are used on Stevens and Pink
Still 1 x primary list spot open.
Could we be using this last list spot on a PSD like a Membrey/Tomlinson/Parfit/Rohan etc etc? Or leave it free (don't know if the 1st rookies have a Pink clause where they are promoted to the primary?) for MSD?

do we have to take 3 picks this year or is it back to 1 minimuim as per covid rules?
Got this sick feeling we've got 2 DFA's lined up and it'll be them, pick 2 and pick 62 to takes the four spots for us this year..

People keep spinning all kinds of reasons why don't explore this space, like there's some great qualification process required to find a player through this pathway.

Meanwhile just about every other club finds players this way. Sometimes they're even the son of the North Melbourne president.
I agree we should be exploring it, but for every Dempsey there is a Joe Furphy who gets delisted.
It would be interesting to know the success rate of Cat B rookies in the AFL system.

Not just pure speed and power, but split second spatial awareness and unpredictable agility.

Felt like those have been two of the most eye-catching qualities of Draper.
Yeah. He and Smith move that way but there was something about Draper that was good. The way he looked to be on the move thru space after receiving the ball, even if it meant winning it and then demanding it back in the right place.

Sonja has a son. Should we Cat B him? Somebody get Brady on the line.

I think there is truth in that, but to reframe it, perhaps it is just dealing with the changing reality of our situation.

Pre trade-period, I thought we were in the fortunate position of having plenty of draft capital and having sereral targets who were not in high demand from other clubs. 2 and 24 could've easily been turned into three teen picks or better allowing us to pick a few tall forwards and perhaps a small, allowing us to largely rebalance the list in a single draft with high draft picks.

I'm disappointed we took Daniel period, but especially disappointed to have spent 24 which I continue to believe is a pick we needed to use to acquire talls one way or another.

I still think the best thing for us would be if we can find a way to turn 2 into several talls without losing too much value.

That being said, I've come round to the view that the best thing for us to do is to plan to use 2 on an elite mid. Essentially it's because we've got ourselves in this situation where it appears that other options are too costly.

I read people saying just take Tauru with 2. Crazytalk to me. Throwing away value. He's not worth that pick. Picking him is like trading 2 for 10 with nothing back. We shouldn't make that trade.

I read people wanting to trade in F1. I'd be supportive of that if we got value but it would be fair to say that's not the feeling in the air right now. There seems to be some groupthink about this draft being a superdraft when I would argue it's really just flat without being that good. There seems to be a premium (above the standard time premium) for trading in to this draft when I'm really not sure if that's right. Our F1 could be a very very valuable pick and the offers reportedly don't come close to this value. Trading out F1 seems likely to be a massive value loss.

Trading f2 to this draft seems attractive, and maybe we will, but it will be a fair bit down the order, well past the better selections from the already questionable cohort of talls. It will weaken us for next year too. I'd still do it though.

There may be some plan or some trade already agreed to which converts our 2 and change into a set of picks which match our needs, but from where things stand, it looks like wishful thinking to hope this eventuates.

If one of this fantastic scenarios doesn't eventuate, we'll be heading to the draft with 2, and we better be prepared to take the best mid we can. We can still use another and these are the selections most likely to make the biggest improvement to our list short and long term.

OR we can go with fantasy, like this:

Pick 1: Lalor (Richmond)
Pick 2: Ashcroft (Brisbane - matching bid)
Call Carlton "Hey we're taking FOS"
Live trade NM 3 > Carlton, Carlton 4 + 39 + F2 > NM
Pick 3: FOS (Carlton)
Call Adelaide "Hey we're taking Draper"
Live trade NM 4 + F2 > Ade, Ade 5 + F1 > NM
Pick 4: Draper (Ade)
Call StK "Hey you can still get Jagga"
Live trade NM 5 + 39 + F2 (Cartlon) > StK, StK 8 + F1 > NM
Pick 5: Jagga (StK)

then take Tauru with 8. After calling out Kako of course.
Why are we doing 39 there?

5 and f2 for 8 and f1 if they want Jagga that badly.

7 and 15 imo
7 - tauru/armstrong
15 - Lindsay/berry
I think I like that one the best too. Even tho the Saints F1 could be a top 4 pick next year, I think I prefer the certainty.

Get our favourite tall and then our favourite small forward. Might even be a third rounder coming our way in the wash for another late tall too.

Pretty good business.

You want pick 2, you do the leg work. Go and speak with GWS so you can make us an attractive offer.

We're not the ones in all of this that should be having to leave anything to chance.
Yeah, it's hilarious

"Look, we really want pick 2, so just accept what we're offering and totally jeopardise your draft with a future you probably can't move"

yeah, my main issue with saints f1 is I'm hearing there is alot of father sons and academy bid next year to push the pick back, if saints finish around 10/9th. As well as this next year's draft depth is projected to be worse then the current one.

Does anyone know how far pick 9/8 could be pushed back next year?

Heaps safer to let saints do the leg work with their f1 then us in my mind

Just taking a few scenarios out of the draft board thread and opening up for discussion.

Which hand would you prefer we entered this draft with?

1) Pick 2
2) Picks 6 and 18
3) Picks 7 and 15 (with possibility of late steak knives)
4) Pick 7 (and Saint's F1)
Pick 7 & Saints F1 & also trade our F1 and get back into this draft.

Maybe he'll be taking Corn-hole's gig on Talking Shit sitting right next to Jabba-da-Hutch, The Velvet Sledgehammer and 'Football's first Lady Serpent'..
Right up his alley

Not like anyone employed by the Herald Shit is expected to do actual journalism work
