The long contracts thing is interesting.

Not sure if it's possible under the CBA framework but I can also foresee clubs putting in financial penalties for not seeing the contract out.

I wouldn't be surprised that if they don't, in the future you'll find that guys who've been on insane money for 3-4 years already are happy to just not play or retire if a club denies their trade request. Most will have built up a decent amount to live comfortably anyway.
Agree, it seems very lopsided in favor of the player.

If their on a long contract they can play sh*t and still get full payment. Then even when contracted they'll request trades to clubs of their choice which reduces bargaining power of the club with the contract.

Maybe clubs need to start looking how these contracts are structured (if they aren't already), where the players can legally only ask for trade and goes to the club who makes the best deal. And/or money claw back for player not wanting to complete their contract to protect clubs when frontloading. Theres also the cost to the clubs in their planning, they've recruited believing that contracted players will be there.

What annoys me the most, is contracted players leaving clubs because another club offers them a better contract. Players should be held to there current contract, albeit at a new club.

Example John noble, contracted for 2 years, suns offer 4 at increased money and he takes it.

I think his first two years should be at the money that he’s on at collingwood
Could not agree more - from what I recall this is what allowed Jack Bowes to go to Geelong and it **** me no end.

Offer him a year.

He'll kick 10 against us in our first intra club hit out of 2025..

You would need to offer him more than year to uproot the family, but wouldn't want more than 2 given he is 32 in the next few weeks

He is contracted, Collingwood don't have to agree to anything

Yet he is disgruntled and will be leaving by all accounts.

What is the club gonna come out and say other than the stock standard “required player” response.

You’d think Melbourne would fix whatever was pissing him off and move heaven and earth to keep him.

Day averages as many tackles inside 50 as Paul Curtis.
Hard to believe, but okay. Maybe ruck contest type tackles? Or Curtis hardly tackles. Anyway, Day is basically the same player as CCJ and Brynn Teakle. Maybe he is a minor upgrade, maybe not. I can't see it a good idea to use three list spots on this type when the best teams don't play any and we would likely end up delisting all three this time next year. If we want a short term tall forward, Membrey would be a much better option.

Geez Seb Ross not offered a contract by St.Kilda.

In the event we don't end up with a Parker type, I'd be keen. Ross is a more defensive mid and has an excellent character. You could play him purely as a tagger or in a similar defensive role to Shiels. His form at the start of the year was pretty solid, but tapered off in the back end of this year.

Had to take the dog into a Melbourne vet around the time it happened, an hour long drive so listened to all sorts of debate about it on SEN. The consensus was without very expensive medical equipment and specialist doctors there was no way of knowing the extent of his injuries other than broken ribs. They had specialists call in and discuss it, and the cost to have all that at a match is unrealistic.

Yes they knew ribs were broken of course, but players have gone back out with that in the past and will in the future. They concluded the Melbourne Doc would've been very much reliant on patient feedback.

Obviously i wasn't a fly on the wall, im just saying what was said on radio, in a pretty in depth discussion about it.
Wasn't it said that the opposition players see that Trac was seriously unwell. If they could see that, why couldn't the Melbourne doctor?

What do you suggest should happen when it's the club that wants to move the player on, as Collingwood did with Grundy?

Zurhaar is taller than Membrey, and takes as many contested marks. I'm not arguing for Day btw, just suggesting we don't need another 'tweener like Membrey

Sam Day types? Not really. He is a dinosaur.

Maybe Charlie Dixon or Hayden McLean would be the closest. But, as I said, we already have two similar types, we don't need another one.

You see our game against GC yeah? Made Chom look silly a few times. Certainly has it but whether his body can keep going is more the thing.

As for McLean being a dinosaur, you know he is 25?
