Interseting that Cal Twomey as said his understanding is that Luke Parker has expressed an interest to have a look around at the end of the year.

I think he would be a great fit for us.

I would love Parker. Tough as nails and more versatile than Viney or Wines.

In what way?

Viney (despite the obvious link with Todd) screams a data based recruitment target.

I think Clarko and the club are fully aware we are the worst club in the AFL at defending scores from transition through the middle of the ground as well as defending clearance when won by the opposition. A big weakness is our defensive work in the middle, so have gone about identifying a target.

Viney along with Rowbottom and Rowell are pretty much the 3 best pressure/defensive midfielders in the comp this season. I don't think it's a coincidence that Viney is a top 3 player in a category that is arguably North's largest team weakness (other than converting clearance to scores) according to CD.

I'd be wary of why Parker has found himself out of the Sydney side also. His 5 games this season have been really underwhelming.

In relation to his versatility, Viney has kicked more goals than Parker did in a full season in 2023. Yes Parker can play as a marking medium forward, but is that what we are recruiting him for? We have Durrsma, Curtis, Ford, Zurhaar all needing minutes in that role.

Additionally, Viney is 2 years younger than Parker. We may get 80-100 games out of Viney, even at 30.

Parker was the better player imo, but I think Viney has been specifically targeted for our midfield groups weakness' and has a lot left in the tank and is coming off a really strong year in terms of defensive numbers. Parker might play 20-30 games for the club imo.

A 22 disposal, 4+ clearance, 6+ tackle, 0.5 goal per game, 25+ pressure rated midfielder would fit in seamlessly with what we need. You are getting a really top quality version of what Clarko is trying to get of Shiels at the moment.

Both are former AFL captains with plenty of leadership credentials, you certainly aren't losing going from Paker to Viney in that respect.

Good points well made. To be honest, I'm probably clouded by the player Paker was, not who he is now.

I really don't think this is Todd/Clarko devising a way of getting Jack over for only leadership/culture.

I think Parker would be recruited for those reasons at 33 years of age, pretty much for leadership/professional standards etc. and maybe even a future coaching role.

Jack screams of a Rawlings/List Management pick to plug the sides weakness'.

It's also why Todd has probably precluded himself, as it's a case of the list management team identifying him and Todd probably not wanting to be seen influencing it or implicated in the contract/offer with the playing group

Leaving the decision soley to Jack.

It's also why I'm not concerned about losing Todd with Jacks recruitment.

We are okay and improving at clearances, but transition is the midfield's main job and our midfield's biggest weakness. Both Viney and Parker are liabilities in transition.

Viney isn't coming, so we don't need to worry about him. Parker may, but was moved out of Sydney's midfield this season after getting torched in transition at the end of last year. He isn't going to be better now. He would add some toughness but overall make us worse. If a mid isn't fast and can run all day, we shouldn't be looking at them.

Twomey also mentioned we tried getting Gollant last year which I wasn't aware of.

I'd be happy for us to go again on him, he at least has some forward craft.

Too small you would have thought for a kpf presence though

Definitely an upgrade on Pink and has upside.

If we’re looking at an immediate upgrade on Pink, Membrey might be decent as a FA, specifically because he was used as a late game specialist to float into defence. Maybe too much of a confidence player though.

You wouldn't be getting him to play key forward, replacing Pink who has no forward craft improves us.

Def an upgrade on pink no doubt but then again without being harsh on pink... most will be. About 4cms smaller than pink but as you says can make that up in know how

It's how much of an upgrade we can try to get and may only need to be temp if we target Armstrong or similar in draft

Yeah I think we will get a better picture of what teams have what picks after trade period.
If Tigers move Baker, Rioli and Bolton then things could get real crazy. Surely they'd come hard for pick 2 then?

I think pick 2 could bring a kings ransom if we decided to part with it, more so than any other year because the compromised draft coming up.
Any team looking at resetting will aim this year or next with a bunch of premiership players being traded.

I think we should trade either this years or next not both thou.
