Game Day 2024 Trade Period - Lian Yu - that liminal space between trade and draft.

Effectively F1 and Noble for Houston would be ridiculous trading by Pies. I wonder what else Suns need to make that work from the Pies and then what else Port need to accept 13 and 23 for Houston.

If Port sound like accepting that, Freo just need to point to it and 10 and 18 is more than fair for Bolton
Picks 10 and 11 is less then ideal but if we can clear salary cap while getting picks back I think it could be a win. However, I think the hold up is that Walls wants to retain a pick to trade into next year.

Suns would be stupid to trade 13 and 23 for Noble and Collingwoods F1. Nobles worth is 30+ imo.

Bolton is more checked out than most to be fair, it would not be ideal if he went back. I think 10 and 18 could get pretty close
I don't think so, he's checked out because he wants to go home but If a deal isn't done he will just play for Richmond next year. Richmond have lost enough players already I don't think they would mind keeping him if they can't strike the right deal. In the back of there minds though they'd know it would be wise to do it now and not wait 12 months because we will be throwing everything at Warner and they will will only get what's left, only time will tell. Is he worth 10 & 11? Yes. We need him, they don't need to lose him.

100% Nailed it

The Tigers will snare pick six (as a minimum) for Daniel Rioli (Gold Coast), pick 14 for Liam Baker (West Coast), and look set to land 10 and 18 for Shai Bolton (Fremantle).

Yeah, we are all posturing on here, sounds like the trade is pretty amicable anyway and Bolton knows he'll be in WA next year. I think very few players are worth 10 and 11, particularly in a draft where everyone seems to want a pick in that range. I also think while you touched on it, they dont necessarily need to lose him but they will lose a lot in the medium to long term by not trading him.

For everyone on the "we need to stand firm and give 'em nothing or the club is farked" wagon, how will you honestly feel if we miss out on Bolton?

I don't want to overpay for him, obviously, but the thought of not having him next year while watching our dearth of small/medium forwards spud it up week after week and wondering what could have been if we had moved our offer from pick 18 to pick 10 or whatever the **** it is, makes me feel nauseous.

The potential to overpay on trades is obvious. It's the foremost thought on everyone's mind, every trade period.

However, this year, what keeps me up at night, is the potential opportunity cost of not getting Bolton...even if it means paying slightly more than what we want to.

We haven't spent years building this list to where it is now to miss out on opportunities like this one. Haggle hard Wallsy and keep the bastards honest, but make sure Shai is in purple next year.

Tigers can trade with Brizzy and Bombers who both need points, so those picks in the 40's won't stay with tigers

Can see a world where we get a pick in the 20's back when we give up 10+11, this includes a big part of his salary paid for

I think it's just angst for the sake of it to be honest. Bolton is as likely to be a Docker next year as anyone else on our list already. There's no feasible reason the trade isnt done

I do think we'll eventually give in to what they want, I think a player of Bolton's calibre is someone you don't pass on, he adds something new to this team, a hell of a lot more than some kids in the Draft will.

If we get a pick back in the 20s or 30s, I'm happy to give 10 and 11, I'm slowly coming around to that deal, 10 and 18 would be ideal, I'm slowly losing hope that it'll get done for that though.

Couldn't agree more. I can't stomach the thought of watching Emmett or a tired old Sonny running around out there trying to pressure and kick goals. I've watched far too many of Bolton's highlight videos on Youtube to ever be able to go back.

Seems like the current negotiation isn't between 10 + 11 vs. 10 + 18 per se, but between 10 + 11 + a 2nd round kickback for Freo vs. 10 + 18 + a 2nd round sweetener for Richmond. Either seems pretty plausible at the moment.

Weekly reminder that Bolton wasn't being considered even after he asked us to come over, because Richmond were keen to keep him.

It wasn't until late in the season when the draft opened up, and we looked like having a juicy pick that this became an option.

Bolton himself wasn't originally expecting anything to happen this year.

If we gave up 10, 11 (and salary cap relief) I would want 24 back.

Gives us 18,24,30. 3 picks in the top 30 and Bolton I would be able to deal with that but would prefer pick 11 instead

That doesn't really change anything in the grand scheme of things, we can look at ifs ands or buts all day, but at the end of the day if we can get Bolton, we get him in.

If that means 10+11 for Bolton, a pick in the 20s and half his salary paid, so be it.

The melts from the Richmond nuffies on social media about only getting pick 42 for Jack Graham are hilarious.

I mean the guy is a fringe role player - did they thing he was earning $800k or something?!

They are some of the worst fans in the AFL - I couldn’t stand them when they were winning either. Worse than several other big clubs I can think of
