If we don't have faith in Voss and Jones, I would rather we target Gerreyn in this draft than Shanahan.

Two reasons:
  • I'm not confident we have the ability to retain a promising, high draft pick from Victoria in development mode/back up in the WAFL.
  • a genuine forward/ruck like Gerreyn gives a lot more flexibility in covering injuries than a pure forward.

Our biggest big man injury risk is Darcy. Gerreyn gives positional options for how to cover him.
I like the look of Gerreyn as well, thought we might be targeting him with our second pick, the fact we re-signed Jones makes me think he won’t be available at that pick so we’ve backed in the guy who plays that role already on our list.

I really hope we look for a match winner type small to medium forward with pick 14, but if Walls likes Lindsay or Travaglia better if they slide I’m 100% on board with that decision too.

The list of better KPFs that are outside their best 22 and are better than Voss wouldn't be very long IMO.

Think people want too much from our depth players tbh.

In hindsight we’ve done very well from that draft. It looks like an all time terrible draft (the excuse is quite obvious) tbh - Getting Chapman, O’Driscoll, Walker and grabbing Treacy as a rookie is crazy good really.

At the time I thought Chapman and Walker should’ve gone higher, O’Driscoll about where he did. Hadn’t heard of Treacy tbh.

Most of this board didn’t want Chapman due to him being a backman. He’s still slotted in very nicely despite this board thinking we didn’t need one. That’s why I’m still big on Bo Allan despite this board not thinking we don’t need a mid - we don’t have a midfield of prime GAJ, Judd, Fyfe, Dusty, Pandles and Bont so a really good mid still fits in perfectly. You can disregard this statement if the eagles pick up though (jk), which I think they’d be mad not to.

Didn’t we do a quick hustle when we realised Nathan was gonna be available ?

If Berry and Hannaford are available at our first pick I hope we go the latter.

Me too. I think Berry is a nice player, but I prefer the way Hannaford plays. He has more aggro and power. However, the big question mark is Hannaford had a very poor 2km time trial result. If Hannaford is viewed as having poor endurance, it could stop him rising up the board.

Do you have the combine stats for both?

Hannaford gives me more small man syndrome/annoying shi t-stirrer/forward pocket specialist than Berry.

I think we have enough to cover the sort of player Berry is, but nothing in the Hannaford type player cupboard.

This was on the W Bulldogs site :

Joe Berry

20m Sprint - 3.03
Agility - 8.479
Running Vertical Jump - 88cm
Yo yo - 720

Going off last year, he wouldn't rate top 10 in anything. He'd go close in agility and jump though. Still an above average to good athlete overall.

Oliver Hannaford

20m Sprint - 2.90
Agility - 7.788
Running Vertical Jump - 89cm
Yo yo - 960

2nd for sprints, 1st for Agility, 11th for jump. They haven't done yo yo testing at the national combine for a while now by the look of it, but looking at his rating of 960, this is equivalent to a level 21.5 which means he would be top 10 based off 2018 and 19 results. Elite speed, elite agility and elite endurance.

Someone said Hannaford had a 2km time trial test that was beyond horrendous apparently so not sure which one is accurate on that endurance...

Wow

I still love Berry, but Hannaford looks amazing from a stats point of view.

A bit concerned by Berry fitness. Would be nice to know how he compares to the rest.

What was his 2km time?

Why was that poor if his yoyo was good?

Ps. Yoyo test must have changed. Andy Brayshaw got 24

Well, they seem to have been posted above. I think that must be from pre-season testing?

I don't think Berry tested end of the season.

Hannaford's recent state combine results were posted on the draft forum (not sure who to credit for this as it seems to have been copied and pasted multiple times):

Height 180.1
Vertical jump 66
VJ Right 86
VJ Left 69
5mtr 1.077
10mtr 1.775
20mtr 2.954
Agility 7.922
2KM 7.26

He'd be near the top 5 in the draft class for 20m and agility, even going a bit slower than those other numbers posted above. Jump looks decent (ignoring the VJ left). But the 2km would be at the bottom end.

Maybe Hannaford was carrying something which impacted his 2km, but not the others so much?

I don't think 7.26 is that bad.

Not elite, but not shocking

I wish I had access to all stats

2km time trial

Tarkyn O’Leary (Sandringham Dragons/Parkdale Vultures) - 5 minutes, 48 seconds
Darcy Wilson (Murray Bushrangers/Wangaratta Rovers) - 5:52
Ethan Read (Gold Coast Suns Academy/Palm Beach Currumbin) - 5:56
Jordan Croft (Calder Cannons/Maribyrnong Park) - 6:05
Caiden Cleary (Sydney Swans Academy/Sydney University) - 6:06
Aiden O’Driscoll (Perth/Northam Saints) - 6:06
Archie Roberts (Sandringham Dragons/Hampton Rovers) - 6:08
Connor O’Sullivan (Murray Bushrangers/Albury) - 6:11
Joel Freijah (GWV Rebels/Horsham Saints) - 6:13
Harvey Johnston (Sandringham Dragons/Parkdale Vultures) - 6:17
Koltyn Tholstrup (Subiaco/Newtown Condingup) - 6:17

A whole minute over 2km is massive man. If you're running it in laps of a standard sized athletics track he's pretty close to getting lapped if not is getting lapped.

Ahhhh "liminal space", the premiership window and Freo, the perfect match...

Reckon you are correct. Can't go wrong however as both are good West Perth boys!
