Wilkie And Cordy.
Give Keeler a go

Still have Arie who will get games and who they are looking at over in Adelaide + the rest of the league.

Turn whatever crap you get for Howard etc into the suns or lions first.
So a c grade tall, an undersized 2nd tall and another undersized second year player who hasn’t played a game yet.

Don’t love it.

A midfield short eh? A midfield that let's the ball flow like a river into the backline. The backline then tries to get the ball to that same midfield and actually do it at a good AFL standard. The midfield that can't then hit the proverbial barn door kicking it forward.
That short eh?

Game plan. F*ing spare me.

No game plan without a midfield!!!
Yep 100%

Dont fix the midfield it truly doesn’t matter if we had prime SOS SCarlett and Leppitsch.

Not winning shit.

If we get pick 4 and lose battle for pick 5 as you’ve said we can draft two kids who could be absolute belters in 2 years right when our current suite of kids is primed don’t have trade Howard, no reason to de list Van Es.

Looks like seriously impacting a current strength to fix a weakness when we don’t need to.

They are looking at Jordan Butts from Adelaide. + another. I don’t know who.

Academies are an issue, probably just dump the priority access for academies, it might hurt GWS and the like for now but theyve had a big old swing with it so far.

I still like F/S but i also think they just need to overhaul the system. Give them a point discount but make it so you have to match with a pick within 3 or 5 live picks on any F/S and make the clubs nominate that prior to draft night so they can sort out any trades that need to be done.

Will and soon to be Levi Ashcroft along with Jasper Fletcher, Nick Daicos, Sam Darcy. If theyre going in the first round, make the pick to match them also a first rounder not a bunch of shit second and third rounders.

Geelong won a flag with a B grade midfield. As did West Coast in 18 and the Dogs in 16.

Im not suggesting we dont look at it but you can gameplan for an average midfield.
Dogs 2016 through midfield ran
Dunkley, Bontempelli, Liberatorie, McCrae, Stringer, Picken , Hunter
I’m not sure that’s B grade alongside what we’ve been putting out this season or that game plan can fix our existing deficits tbh

If he gets 900-1m a year. Good on him.

He isn’t worth that much. But what can you do if he makes the most of the opportunity for himself and his family?
Agree with all that and he deserves to earn as much as he can for him and his family. It will be just sad to see him dominating for another team.
He really has become super reliable and I don’t wanna lose that.

Cats
Danger (who was in his 30's), Mark O'Connor and Cam Guthrie. Danger aside (and he was getting on) not exactly a murderers row. Rotations with Selwood (again, getting on) Atkins, Myers.

WCE
Shuey, Sheed, Yeo, Duggan and Venebles. Really, not world beaters.

Dogs
Dahlhaus, Libba (who was 25 at the time and not the Libba now) and Bont (who was 21 at the time) Picken, Roberts, Hunter and MacRae (Also 21)

Id say none of those midfields in the flag years would have been rated in the top 10 midfields in the comp at the time. Solid contributers but they had a gamestyle suited to the strengths (Geelong their intercept defenders and elite forwards, West Coast ball movement and Defence and Dogs manic pressure).
I’d argue all those midfields are better than what we are and have been putting out
Danger now at 64yr old would walk into our side…

It’s scary to think we have to be in a position to extend King with 2 years left because of what’s going to come.

IF Arie can make it… we sort out the battle issue and gain a band 1 pick

Agree. It’s all about the team and not individuals and let’s hope whatever transpires works out best for the St Kilda football club.
Thanks for all your info that you post I really appreciate it.

wtf.

Luke Shuey in 2018 won a norm smith and is better then any mid we have now.

Yeo was an AA and BnF winner by the time he won a flag

Bontempelli AA and BnF in 2016. Won’t bother listing the disposal numbers of Macrae and Libba

Why isn’t Blicavs on your cats list? Mitch Duncan!?!

Paton - trade
Howard - Trade
Van Es - Delist
Hayes - Trade
McLennan - keep
Sharman - Keep
butler - keep
Keeler - Keep
Battle - gone
Webster - Keep
Allison - gone
Stocker - keep
Wood - Keep
Heath - Keep
Hotton - Keep
Byrnes - Keep/Trade
Membrey - Trade
Ross - Keep/trade
Jones - Trade
Bonner - keep
Campbell - gone
Agree with all the “keepers”

Re the trades:
Not sure who would take Timmy. I’d be sad to see him go. Maybe he’s a retire.
Not sure who’d take a chance on Hayes with so many injuries already - what would we possibly get?
Jones, ditto.

Howard - think we marketed him around last year to no avail. Been a really good part of the backline, I’d rather keep than get nothing for him, unless there’s someone already lined up.

Anyway, time will tell.

Byron Pickett won a norm too, one good game is a great accolade but doesn’t make a great player.

Steele was AA and BnF too.

The eagles midfield was workmanlike at best.

Dogs were good but young, their midfield now is ****ing elite but those same guys at 21 weren’t what they are now (Bont aside).

The cats were good, that’s probably slightly overstated but their midfield wasn’t their strength.

The point I was making is that you don’t need an elite midfield to win a flag if your gameplan works around your strengths. Our midfield right now is garbage, we’d be last or second last, we absolutely need to adress it but we don’t need to burn out other lines to make it first, we just need it to be competitive.

Hayes and Membrey both have interest.

Wont get much back.

But I feel like a few clubs are going to take a punt now and others will be happy to cycle bigger older earners off the books for minimal return - that’s where we will plumb up the list in preparation for the next few years of free agency

Yeh of course they’re better than ours but they weren’t the strength of the team.

No one is gonna have absolute elite lines across all three.

Our midfield doesn’t have to be the best in the comp it’s just gotta be able to do a job. Our backline is our current strength and pending King, Butler, Higgins and Owens our forward line might be equally good.

If we get that then our midfield just needs to not be complete shit (which again, right now it’s worse than complete shit).

To be clear, I’m not saying leave the midfield, we gotta fix it, I’m just saying don’t burn the other lines done to fix it cause then we just become Melbourne or the Dogs who have elite midfields and **** all else.

Luke Shuey had to be tagged.

Thats already ahead of our entire crab of a midfield.

If he got the ball 20 times. He would hurt you.

Crouch Steele Ross Windhager can get the ball 35 times and it would hurt as much.

With a walking frame, but whatever….🤣

Stav… read what I wrote, of course they are ahead of ours, ours is pure shit, I’m not arguing that point. I’m also not saying to do nothing with ours, of course we need to improve.

The eagles best player wasn’t a mid, their gameplan didn’t revolve around a dominant midfield, they had a competitive midfield that worked hard (especially defensively). They had elite forwards and the best intercept defender, maybe ever?

If you have the best defence and a very very good offence then your midfield just needs to be competitive.

Ours isn’t, we need to fix that, but if we trash our defence or forward line to get the best midfield we’re no better off.

There you go.

Cleary and Twomey.

Don’t want to hear boo about the quality of news I get.

You all got it before it was reported.

What part of… We don’t have a choice
Do you & others not understand ?
exactly,i cant believe how much time is wasted by negative nellies saying"band 1 for battle is a pipe dream"etc, totally out of our hands,if he chooses to leave, thats it,if another club entices him triggering band one, thats it,if its band 2 thats it,seems to be a lot of this going on-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhHSpATBy-s geez, are these members so defeated that they just get off on promoting the worst case scenario every time?

Agree .. this method of needing top 5 draft picks to win a Premierships is a myth .... of course highly rated draftees might help but there is no guarantee they work out

Have a look at the Swans current midfield -

Grundy - pick 18
Heeney - pick 18
Gulden - pick 32
Warner - pick 39
Rowbottom - pick 25
McLean - rookie pick
