The really glaring thing with Gags when you look back through his record is he was poor at the negotiating table. Consistently overpaid for players. SOS already seems way better in that area and puts more value on our picks.
This is fair enough and the only criticism of him that l agree with. It's a ruthless game and he was a bit too nice. But he left us with a ton of cap room and his worst remaining contract was Billings, which doesn't even rate on the scale. There are many others more deserving of criticism.

I agree with you that we wont get him for stuff all. But even if he costs say at worst a future second, i'm ok with it.

I think we will be a big improver next year- our future 2nd could be pick 30+ (before academy etc selections push it out to circa pick 40).

It will be great if port settle for less of course (maybe a 3rd rounder + hayes?)- but if they play hardball and are happy to keep him... im ok with paying a future 2nd personally.
I would really hold out till the start of trade period to see who becomes available - you may get someone better for nothing.

I'm opposite to what these people think about Gallager , he stripped the team of all the very average players we had a total overhaul which was needed.-and there was a lot.
Was it him most probably not and more than likely Leathlean , but the people who turned this team around need a pat on the back and not stab in the back.

Brought in talent that was needed - from Crouch , Sharman , King , Wilkie , Ryder , Howard , Hill , Higgins , Butler and totally turned around team to where we are now - with players like Nas , Windhager , Owens , Phillipou.
Everyone makes mistakes but we now have a war chest if we need to secure a good player or players.

I agree entirely. The short story is The Road to 2018 was an utter failure and they needed to keep supporters engaged whilst performing a rebuild on the run or we were gonna be dead in the water. Some decisions didn't work in hindsight but they left the place in much better shape than they found it with virtually nothing to work with.
I'm happy that era was moved on but bear them no grudge. They were not plonkers like the previous lot. They were just a necessary stepping stone.

To me nailing a pick is taking a lesser rated player at a higher pick and that player turns out to be a star.

I suggest both Phillipou and Wilson were the best players left at our picks and that most competent list managers would have selected them.

Great picks for sure but not evidence, in my opinion at least, of some unbelievable drafting skills by Toce.

We have had much better picks and blown them. It's easy to say when we get them right. Wanganeen-Milera looked like an absolutely terrible idea at the time.

Dalrymple took Dylan Stephens at 5 over Kosi Pickett, Day, Hayden Young, Serong and Flanders.

Good recruiters don't get everything right but they don't bust top 10 picks. He did nail Chad Warner that year though so made up for it.

They are good players but not absolutely elite. Rowbottom was a pretty early pick from memory.

I’ve gone through this with him. He doesn’t rate them. Thinks they are GOPs

They are good players but they aren't elite. They are the types we have heaps of. We can find good talent, we've struggled to get absolutely elite talent. I rate Toce's work because he nailed high picks but hit the late picks too.

I feel Nas , Phillipou , Wilson are going to be absolute stars - if we pick another stand out kid we will have the backbone to win a flag finally.

Finally some common sense on irreplaceable Christopher GOD of recruitment Toce.

We had someone who isn’t completely incompetent like the previous. Yes good but thats the return we should be getting at the draft.

Yeah because there is only black and white. Toce was doing his job to a very high standard and in the talent spotters role before that. Dalrymple was elite at the Dogs and average at the Swans. To me Toce had every reason to get pissed off and leave. We ironically went for a safe bet and made it a gamble. It is what it is.

Still find it bizarre that so many wanked off over Trout, Gags and Ameet for years and even with zero evidence that they were competent, drooled over them. Toce who has evidence of competence is meant to be shit to help you all cope.

Chad Warner at pick 39 is a great outcome for Sydney but not a good reflection on Dalrymple. If he rated Warner, he wouldn't have taken 3 duds (Stephens, Gould and Elijah Taylor) before Warner and risked someone else grabbing Warner.

He was meant to have interviewed Chad a heap of times and went to teachers, parents and coaches. There must have been some behavioural issues IMO.

Previous performance not guaranteeing future returns and all that.

An awful lot of emphasis is put on the head bloke but it seems to me the network they have underneath. We've never had the dollars to make us successful.

Dalrymple picked this and missed on that..Toce did great on this so better. Trout crap because he did this.

Seems to me at lot of focus on the end result but we have no understanding if we are playing in the same pool as the rest of the comp.
