I was more so referring to losses of experience across the board- players like Crouch, Ross, Membrey*, Battle will weaken us.

The youth are inconsistent, so I expect our form will be up and down with a more youthful team.

Only one of those would be classified as best 23 by seasons end.

Crouch played one game and we were better off without Ross in the team. Membrey only played when King went out so there's only a marginal change there. Soldo replaces Membrey, Macrae replaces Crouch/Ross

Jumped over to norfs board to ask them this and they seemed generally accepting of NM 2,24 for STK 7,8.

Obviously none of them keen on just STK 7,26 for NM 2

So maybe STK F1 paired with 7 for NM 2,24 would be a great balance for both clubs.

Pick 2 still feels like we have a chance at Lalor despite recent reports. Otherwise Smith or Draper are both very worthy of moving up.

I think this is a terrible deal for us.
Nth currently have 2 and 25
on draft night it will be 8 & 9 for 3 & 29

Maybe I'm in the minority but I think we're sliding back on the Ladder next year with more youth and a depleted midfield.

I would say we're being robbed in that deal because our Future 1st could easily be P5-7.

Get a Future 2nd back through the door and I'm in.

Depleted how?
McLobster for Crouch straight swap.
Long as Clark, Jones, Dow and Henry stay healthy and Pou and Garcia continue on their upward trajectory, with natural improvement from Windy and Owens, I think we can improve.

Weren’t you confident 2 months ago he was staying post Brisbane trip?
I was very hopeful that he was staying(as we all were) as you say pre and post our game up in Brissy.

The "chatter" was that he was staying.

"Little Birdie" said what he said just before the Brissy game here at Marvel back in early August.......a night to very quickly forget.....it was a shocker.

I thought....let's see what happens......and.....here we are.

It's been a bit of a "firestorm" since the B&F but despite everything,Josh gave his all for the 8 years that he played in the Red,White and Black.

I for one am sad that it reached this point.

We are looking for another first rounder though.

They love this draft.

How?

Yes we lost Battle, but its another pre-season for the likes of Nas, Owens, Windy, Henry, Pou, Wilson, Garcia. In terms of experience, Id say these gains outweigh the loss of Battle

We are getting Macrae for a setup of Steele, Macrae, Pou, Windy, Dow, Clark + draftees - I wouldn't call that depleted and its a lot better than what we had this year

I'm confident that the midfield is better with Macrae. The back 6 is going to be the big question mark over the side. Our back 6 kept us in matches last year. A fit side will make a huge difference as well but really need a third tall back ready to go.

The Roos have been open to splitting the pick for another top-10 selection and a future first-round choice, while the Eagles have dangled their top choice in a mix of trade possibilities as they look to boost their draft hand whilst also securing trade target Liam Baker.

Would we swap 7&8 for Eagles pick?
Not at all for me

All that is true but there is no guarantee that we finish above bottom 4. Another injury year, a couple of kids go backwards and some close losses and we could be throwing away a FRDP. I don't like trading away future pick unless there is something incredible still on the board. SOS paid up big for Stocker doing this exact thing.

Because they have to travel from Brisbane apparently. Don't hear the Eagles or Swans complaining.

Whereas the Saints only have to drive into the city.

I mean how bad are their logistics team if this is still a disadvantage for a professional afl team in 2024?

The MCG is not our home ground but apparently that's irrelevant.

Lol
And more importantly would be completely outnumbered by most oppo

We need young Shoen to have a big pre-season.

Your reasoning really not right - last year Crouch you can say didn't play , Ross is past it and the reason he has been delisted , Membery played a few good games when the season was over and has not been offered a good contract because they know his best is behind him.

However Battle is a loss but he was no Tom Stewart or Sicily and has to be remembered we never had Howard , Wood , Webster from round 3 to round 7 last year and we lost 4 of those 5 games so really missing only Battle is not going to be massive , but keeping most of our players on the park is.
During this period as well Sinclair was far from his best due to his restricted preseason.

I rate Wood highly due to his ability to to fill holes in the backline , Webster as well due to his ability to read play - both are aging but are still vital cogs in our game plan.

But you realize this year we played crap and lost to 5 teams by 10 points or under and only missed the 8 by 2 games.

And during this time we had injuries to Howard , Wood , Clark , Dow , Henry , King , Dow suspensions to Webster , Higgins.
Also with the injury prone crocs - Jones / Hayes / Crouch not able to play made us play first year rookies - however this could well benefit us in the future.

Next season
MaCrae
gain / against Crouch who didn't play
Clark / he missed half the season and showed he can play when not injured
King / surely he will be able to get back on the field next season
Owens / expect big improvement in his development
Windhager / improving every year
Sharman / now starting to really impact games - once given a periment position as a forward.
Henry / showed he is special and if healthy is dangerous as anyone around.
Phillipou / dropped then came back and showed he is going to be a mid we have been looking for.
Wilson / will only be better next season.
Garcia / Hastie / Schoemaker / McLennan in there 2nd season could easily step up.

We all know our Achilles heal our midfield - this year without Crouch severely hurt us and with injuries to Clark , Jones , Dow left the work load on Steele and Seb Ross who we know is not the answer in our midfield and requiring Windhager to carry the load which was a task to big against most teams.

Next year with trusty Steele and the addition of MaCrae and now a seasoned Windhager with Phillipou who could be our point of difference in the guts with a host of other players that we didn't see last year much due to injury - like Hunter Clark , Dow and Jones.
Also who knows if Lyon gives Henry , Owens or Wilson a crack in the midfield.

To me our forward line will only get better now once Henry , Sharman , Owens , Higgins and King get settled in.

Our backline line will be fine knowing Lyon game plan builds from defense with our halfbacks in Sinclair and Nas - with Wilkie and Howard taking care of the key forwards.

With all this with a better draw and less injuries we should be playing finals , from there it all depends on how much our kids step up - Windhager , Hammer , Wilson , Phillipou , Owens , Henry and if our experienced players have a solid year anything could happen.

McLennan isnt big enough to play the role Battle did.

He was an interceptor more than a proper one on one defender but you probably need some height cover as well. I wouldn't be surprised if we try to get another tall minder back to let Wilkie play a more loose intercept role. I think Wilkie could be even better with a less accountable role. Tom Stewart was so good because others could cover for him while he attacked the ball.

THIS
We did it to Sam Fisher back in the day. Was a brilliant loose man footballer, but we ended up giving him a lockdown role.
We always do it to good footballers, because they are good at something no-one else is, we make them the specialist.
