And yet we are chasing Macrae? That doesn't really add up.
Crouch replacement. Which we really need in the midfield at the moment.
I love Membrey but we have more options to cover him.

you would think the decision has been made to prioritize the younger guys.
Obviously but the saints need to read the room. Tim is very popular with the supporters and amongst the playing group, he’s also on form best 22. He could have three years left and he’s going to bring in nothing if he leaves, why not a year with incentives and a trigger. I’d be shocked if anyone at the clubs thinks they deserve a game young or old, we’re meant to step up this year not go backwards. So if Tim is happy with the scenario where if he’s best available he’s picked but all things being equal we’ll play youth then why push him out the door.

Christ if you are correct and its really Brain Speaking he has gone to the next level in being a total ---- going by what he posted in the who you would like to hear on Saints Radio, yes he names himself

Stavro, Moorabbin Ghost, Brian Speaking, Gringo and Joffaboy would be my selections ;)
Oh I'm correct

The old trade whisperer is back

I like this. Have watched his contract situation over the season hoping he'd be delisted, would be a good foil for Collard as a pressure x-factor small forward backup to Butler

There've been doubts over his work ethic but hopefully after this delisting and some due diligence by SOS, we can get his career back on track

Only problem is list spots so I'd imagine Taylor vs Konstanty will battle it out for an SSP spot if the report is true and we beat Essendon

And maybe he’s been told exactly this in his post season review and didn’t like what he heard?

It has probably already been mentioned, but if we bid on Kako and the Dons don't match, is he a player that is worth pick 8 for us.

Yes. He fits a need in our lineup, has massive upside, and can draw comparisons to Nick Watson of last year's draft. Only question marks are his lack of height and his forward pressure but the talent and x-factor is there

8 is a slight reach but he could easily outperform that cost

Only my opinion, but it seems like a reach to me when you consider what players could be on the board at that time.

I think Twomey has him ranked around 14.

We have already done irreparable damage by bending over every time we try to get a player and by treating our existing players like dirt.
We are looked at as being up there with Gold Coast as the draft push overs that everyone can just bully into us giving them what they want as they know we will cave.
We paid the earth for Hill because we had committed to him and Freo knew that they could rodger us silly.
We gave a home to Dow, Stocker and Bonner no wonder we are the location of choice for Macrae and Soldo.
To top it off we are pushing out one of our best club stalwarts in Membrey to make room for other team's cast offs.
Strength through loyalty, I don't think so.
At some point you have show that you are not going to be pushed around and if that means we miss out on a couple of over the hill players so be it.
We are not in the hunt for serious footballers anyway they will never come to us over Geelong, Richmond, Essendon, Carlton, Collingwood etc...
We are even behind the Bulldogs and Melbourne as a potential destination and that will not change if we keep showing our soft underbelly.
The only sides we are seriously competing with for players are North and GC, that is a really sad state of affairs.
Showing a bit of guts and being a bit more ruthless will actually improve us as a destination rather than just showing we are weak all the time.
Ryan O'Keefe and Papley both nominated teams they wanted to get to it but trades couldn't be done.
It didn't hurt either Carlton or Hawthorn's ability to trade in players just showed they won't get pushed around.
I agree But not with the Strength Rhrough Loyalty part.

Everything is subjective, but for me Strength Through Loyalty means standing together, being on the same page, backing each other up.

What it shouldn't be confused for is a reason to stick together to the detriment of one or both parties. Footy is a ruthlessly dynamic and competitive business and we simply cannot afford to be TOO compasionate and humanitarian, we will lose ground to the point of being non-competitive. The club's entire existence is to compete: What use is being loyal if it stops us being a competitor?

I bear no ill will to players who have chosen to leave, it happens. I doubt any player is under any illusion where the club's loyalty ends and common sense takes over, especially ones who have been in the game a long time.

I think it’s conveniently overlooked.

But ultimately- sure Melbourne gets p9.

Would mean we could get p11.

Either way - it appears the club wants to get right into this draft.

P9 just appeals more because of the potential it offers having the 3 picks back to back.
At least there is A little bit of additional appeal with us purely because of the bid possibility. They trade 9 to Melb, we bid at our first pick (possibly). Alternate universe where we have 9 and don’t bid and he follows the usual path of FS and NGA and slides further than they should. Starts becoming a decent extra pick that they don’t need to find. Sliding to 15 wouldn’t be a shock at all. Clubs forget they’re there, I’m sure of it 😂. Mid-40s pick by itself.

Because I'm bored - a club by club analysis of what Essendon could receive for Pick 9, assuming they want to get out of the first round this year. Rosa has publicly said they have given up on trading up, and going back for reasons explained seems unlikely. Also assumes no players involved (e.g. Stringer/Shiel deals)

Adelaide - only real scenario I can see is Adelaide F1 for 9 + Ess F1. Seems unlikely either party would go for that.
Brisbane - F1 is too high, Brisbane will need points for picks next year
Carlton - would have to be F1 + F2, they need 34 for bids on Camporeale twins this year. Would need AFL approval to trade F1 and F2 away in same year as well. Also seems unlikely that a team with a contending list would throw away a bunch of future draft capital for other draft capital rather than an established player (like Houston), but it's certainly an option given the deep 2024 draft.
Collingwood - already likely going to trade their F1 to GC as part of Houston trade. If that fails then they could easily trade F1 to Essendon, but they might be hesitant as they'll need as many picks as possible to match a bid next year on a top 5 F/S. Could trade F1 if another future pick came back
Fremantle - likely not interested in trading future picks to stockpile for Warner trade chance next year
Geelong - F1 too high but could easily sweeten the deal with 38. Likely similar deal to what we would offer
Gold Coast - not trading future picks, will need points next year
GWS - See what plays out with the Stringer deal, but F1 + 37 is definitely an option. Essendon won't go for 15/16 as they'll get eaten by Kako bid
Hawthorn - could offer F1 + 33
North Melbourne - same as adelaide. Also feels as though they would not go for a F1 for 9 + Ess F1, especially if they can do a trade back with Richmond this year
Melbourne - Most likely in my view, Melbourne F1 + 28 for 9. Could even use a bunch of later picks instead of 28 to sweeten points deal for Essendon
Port Adelaide - could offer F1 + 39, but I think they would need special permission from the AFL due to how many first round picks they need to take in a certain time frame? Could be wrong.
Richmond - won't trade F1 under any circumstances.
St Kilda - 9 for St K F1 + 27
Sydney - F1 too high, and don't have a pick around the right mark for the Kako bid. Wouldn't trade 22, 59 not enough points
Western Bulldogs - F1 + 35 (or other pick they get for Macrae/Daniel) certainly an option
West Coast - same as Adelaide, but slide back to 9 is not desirable for WC (apparently)

Summary: Any of Geelong, GWS, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Port, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs could offer attractive deals for the Dons that would give them both a future 1st and a ~ 2nd round pick this year to match bids on Kako.

Depending on who you talk to, you'd think that a Melbourne, St Kilda or WB bid would be most appealing.

The most important thing to take away from all of this: Essendon will plenty of suitors and we're not going to be able to get away with a King's ransom for nothing

Thanks for posting. It is basically IN DETAIL what I have been saying for a while.

Yes we would love the Don's Pick 9, BUT so would many other clubs, many of whom can actually offer more.

There is no way that we get Pick 9 cheaply.
