Well if you aren't going to put much on the table, then you aren't going to get a whole lot in return.

Good luck with that. You only really get salary dump options with this strategy.

Mordy we have all had periods of complete frustration with the club and disagreements with list management decisions. However the current team haven't done much wrong and are at least worth giving the benefit of the doubt.

What I get incensed about is supporters looking for a miracle change wanting to trade in "damaged players". Its a false dawn it just doesnt happen, and even if there is a minute chance our club are not in a position to take those risks. Im sure the List Management Team are well abreast of the off field destruction such player/s can cause and will stay well away. But for some reason desparate supporters have this unrealistic belief that our club are miracle workers and all will fine as long as they pull on the red, black and white.

We have a very young list and will be bringing in more kids, we couldnt send a worse message to their families having off field garbage at our club. There is no way the club/s of origin would trade out AA player/s if they thought their best footy was ahead of them.

With Shiel, why not go after someone like Will Brodie who likely offers more in the long term?

Even Jarrod Lyon or Joel Trudgeon. Binns is tearing up the VFL if we could get him too it would be handy. Ward and Hobbs probably worth a look at too. Can't see them getting game anytime soon. Lazzaro always impresses me in the VFL too.

I actually look at this entire year as an opportunity to reset without having a list that’s bottomed out.

We’re currently 15th, our best footy is a lot better than 15th, and we seemed to have improved our worst footy in the last 2 months.

As such we have pick 4 in hand currently, and could we land pick 5 should battle leave.

Given the number of close losses and the evenness of the competition it wouldn’t shock if we jumped back up the ladder next year and the opportunity to stockpile some elite young picks prior to will only benefit us in the pursuit of sustained success.

Truthfully, I think we’re a strong midfield away from being top 4-6. We are littered with talent around the periphery. Players like Wilkie, Sinclair, NWM, King, Marshall, Owens, Higgins and Hill are as good as any in their position in the comp. We just need to add some high end talent next to Steele, and further development of Phillipou and it can turn very quickly.

100%. We had shit luck with the midfield and forward line and have an easier fixture next year. We should be expecting finals. We need a good Crouch replacement and luck with Dow, Henry etc and Phillipou types to continue to impress.

Guys like Windhager, Owens, Caminiti and Sharman are getting to an age where they should be more consistent. There should be high expectations for this club. They get let off way to easily for a very shit year. Collingwood and others seem to have a way of playing well regardless of how many injuries they have.

Keep an eye out for someone like George Hewett if he gets dropped again & has a stint in the VFL he would suit our midfield.

He's pretty meat and potatoes but he'd be handy depth.

He would walk into our starting line up easily ,

Byrnes is depth

He would be but he’s no star, hopefully over time he’s pushed out to depth by kids. He’s not the absolute star we want but h d start as our second or third best mid.

A fresh start could be best for Oliver. There may be some underlying issues with the Dees dangling him out for trade and talking about him publically, he may have felt like the support was really not there, especially if he is clearheaded now and looking back on everything.

IF, IF, his heads on straight, he would be great addition on field and instantly be our #1 guy in the middle and could even act as a deterrent to the younger guys to not get involved in that stuff… IF, IF his head is screwed on.

Even a 70% of 2022 Oliver is a better prospect than a chasing of Shiel, McCrae and other types.

He's not going anywhere unless he's absolutely cooked. Clubs don't let premium players go unless there are genuine issues.

All good suggestions, and who is to say we aren't looking at a number of these types. Depending on if we lose Crouch, Ross and Jones, we may well get coverage from Sheil plus two others above or a range of others not discussed. Who knows one or two may do a Mason Wood for us.

Honestly wouldn't be mad if we were one of the VIC clubs here especially if it means we don't have to chase Shiel...

If Battle leaves, it’s bottom 4 for certain. Been through this before.
