List Mgmt. 2025 List Management 📃

3 firsts if TDK leaves, send them to WCE for Reid and embrace building around Jagga, Cody and Reid.

As far as I'm concerned if TDK leaves any chance of a flag with the current core of the list is over. He's close to our best player right now.
I'm not sure if a list manager has ever done this or if it's even possible but if we matched St Kilda's deal for TDK at 1.5M-1.7M or whatever it is couldn't they just back out and refuse to do a trade. Wouldn't we then be on the hook for that contract?

I wouldn’t cry if that happened. Keep TDK or grab a genuine gun in Harley Reid (if we can, that is).

Im not sure they have either, but it would be one of the biggest disasters around for the Saints to commit to one of the biggest contracts of all time, sell a player the vision and then pull out when their club matched the offer.

Plus, if we were going to match it I'm tipping we'd have communicated that with the Saints well and truly in advance of them placing their offer officially.

So I doubt that would occur.

How do we get 3 firsts? I doubt we match
With the amount players we have OOC end of year I really don't think we'd have any worries matching a bid if it's just to force the trade.

Realistically I'd move all of these players on if it meant we'd be able to force a trade for TDK at market value instead of accepting one compensation pick for him. Half of them are cooked or conditional footballers anyway.

Docherty
McGovern
Young
Fantasia
Kemp
Motlop
Haynes
Cincotta
Newman (love him and would prefer to keep but he likely only has 1 year left anyway)

There should be plenty enough money from that group to match the offer and force SOS to pony up.

Where are those bananas getting 3 first from … their whole list is worth one first and a couple of seconds at best lol

The latter needs to happen irrespective of anything else. Too many of these types at the club for too long.

Absolutely, picking and choosing when to go or poor commitment from week to week needs to stop

It would be way easier if we had more players available, but some tough calls need to be made

Another high-priced messiah? Not for me thanks.

Add to this trading out Harry, then use the Harry/TDK picks and cap space to find a bunch of role players that have pace, skill and mongrel. Find a workmanlike ruck on the merry-go-round. Get in a coach that can get us playing modern footy. Add Jagga to our midfield.

I reckon you'd be surprised at how quickly we could rebound adopting this strategy.

Not sure how building long term around Reid, Jagga and Cody would be a messiah situation?

Have you seen the figures quoted for the trade/contract it would take to get Reid across?

If that isn't a messiah then I simply don't know what is.

PS. I'm not convinced Reid becomes a superstar. The guy plods around a bit too much for my liking.

You match the bid for TDK and take either 2 very early 1st (this year) or 1 early and 2 late firsts with maybe a 3rd or junk going back the other way.

In saying that, if we do trade TDK, we should be looking at trading Harry for 2 1sts also.

I’m not sure I’d be packaging up a lot of 1sts for Harley Reid. I’d rather take 5 bites at the cherry (all 1st round picks this year and next) and bring in as much talent as possible before TAS get into the draft, adding to that Cody Walker also.

Because I'm not talking about getting Reid in as a way to fix all our problems and win us the flag next year.

I believe if TDK leaves we are out of the window (such is his importance to the team) and should then look to rebuilding on the run by targeting young players for the future similar to how Port and Geelong have done.

Reid is the best young talent that's come through the pathways in probably 30 odd years. If he wants to come home and we have the picks and cap space due to TDK leaving id say you absolutely pull the trigger no questions asked and look towards the future where he, Jagga and Cody can be relied on as key pillars to build around.

For me a messiah type situation would be trying to bring in a mature player who we think is going to take us from no mans land to flag favourites in an instant. Which is not what I'm advocating for.

Agreed.

Look how quickly hawks got a well functioning list together without spending trillions…

need a good plan/strategy on a modern effective game style and a recruiting/list management Department that follows thru with bringing the right types through the door

Very compromised draft this year at the top end based on what Cal Twomey has been saying
