He’s a couple of interesting questions.

Who’s our BEST player and who’s our most important player?

Crippa best.
Charlie most important, for me.
If CC is up and firing we're usually firing.
Weiters extremely important as well but we did ok in the games he missed at the beginning of the season, including against the eventual premiers on their home deck in OR.
Tdk next.

I wonder what we realistically pay to keep TDK?

Recent history suggests he'll be offered a reasonable deal but less than the open market. We likely offer extra years to help compensate. 6-year deals for Weitering and Curnow. 7 for Mckay.

Reports at the time suggested Curnow and Mckay salaries averaged out at approx. 800-950k per season. The cap has increased since and most our deals would be indexed. Consequently, they are probably on approx 1.0m-1.2m per season now. I suspect Weitering is on something in that range too.

Going by precedent we can't pay TDK much more than that. Maybe a touch but not much. So, I think his contract will be in the range of 1.1m-1.3m p.a. for 6-7 years.

Even that will be riskier, then any of our other contracts to date, given TDK won't have the runs on the board the other guys did when they signed. It's a bit of leap of faith, but if we want to re-sign him, we need to be at least somewhat competitive with other offers.

I expect the Saints to go as high as 1.5m-1.6m for 8-9 years. Then there will be other offers that fall somewhere between ours and there's.

I think you could argue Cripps is also our most important player with his leadership and the way he continuously puts the team on his back.

Weitering is a big loss when out, but you can somewhat protect the backline if the midfield is firing.

With the amount of OOC players we have I'd imagine we're not going to see many re-signings until TDK does due to this very scenario.

In a trade he's worth 2 good first rounders easily. Having money to match any bid that comes his way in FA will be critical to at least force a trade if for some reason he's intent on leaving. Losing TDK for what could be a pick around 15-20 from FA compo would be catastrophic.

I'll avoid repeating everyone else's responses and try and answer this with some different names...

Best: TDK. Those few games he dominated this year lifted our team to a whole new level. If he produces that more consistently this year... WOW

Most important: McKay. Our entire forward line looks lethal when McKay is kicking goals. His ability to pinch hit in the ruck also affords just playing the one dedicated ruck. When he is on he is marking everything down the wing, allowing us to exit our defense more positively

If TDK re-signs, then get ready for months of media stories saying that our salary cap is bursting at the seams!
100%. Our salary cap has been bursting at the seams the last 3 or 4 years yet we have signed everyone we have wanted to sign, kept everyone we have wanted to keep and we continue to be in the running for quality mature players.

We will sign TDK to a really long contract for fair money. Contract length has value, also allows us to disperse their salary over the years. back load for example.

If we happen to win it in the next couple of years, get ready for the acquisitions.

I think TDK is becoming our most important player.

Look at the final against Brissy, as soon as TDK came on the game changed.

I agree, TDK now my Fav Player.

I wouldn't want to go too long without Weiters either. We REALLY Need Young to step up.
Then we have Gov & Haynes as Intercept and it's not so dire.

Without that 1 lynchpin though, our defense cannot hold too long before the damn bursts.

Best is still Cripps

Most Important will always be Weitering until we shore up the KPD depth

Bland response but… it is what it is until it isn’t
Pretty good best player in any case, the reigning Brownlow medalist

Walsh has capacity to be our best, 30 vote Brownlow season in his 2nd or 3rd year. First time he’s been in the top 5 of the TT since his 2nd season IIRC. Good signs he is getting over this back surgery.

Charlie, H, Weitering, TDK could all be our best too.

Of the younger guys, Jagga, Moir and Elijah all have enough talent to eventually be our best. Whether they deliver on that potential is another story of course.

Great position to be in!

May be bland...but, its' the right response.

TDK and a left field one; McGovern as next most important. Gov stiffens us up defensively more than people think.

Now that’s not a bland choice - although respectfully I disagree with you about Gov…IMO he isn’t in the top 10 for either discussion - personally I think Cripps is our best player (followed by Charlie and Walsh) and Tdk is our most important player (followed by Cripps and Weitering).

Didn’t know that Cody Walker was NGA with the tigers.

So he’ll have to nominate either us or them have I got that right.

Have been told categorically from mates that play for Echuca that he's 100% going to the Blues. That's what the club wants, that's what the Walker family want & that's what Cody wants.

My understanding is he'll be invited to join the boys in a select number of training sessions this year & next. He already has a good relationship with a number of the senior boys already including Crippa & Walshy.

The media will play it up as a big decision between us & Richmond but don't fall into it. He's wearing navy in 2027.

The only place it might hurt us; is I could see the Tigers playing not so nice with bidding.

Good chance they have pick 1. Could see them ensuring we pay max value, rather than letting Cody slide a couple of spots as is the norm.

And it's what clubs should do, but with trading, agreements are made between clubs not to bid

We traded with the Lions, didn't bid on Ashcroft, but I doubt that flows through to next year and so on

At this stage, Cody has the potential to be top 10, clubs will bid on him
