Is it true that we’ve committed to putting Lucas on the senior list? My understanding was that we’d committed to taking them both, but nothing about which list they would be on.
It’s not the kind of thing Ralph would make up without being told. But also, he’s not the smartest, and could have made a mistake (like saying we traded Cottrell to the Eagles).

It’s either:
1. We have committed to taking him in the ND, bid or not. Or
2. Ralph made a mistake, and if no bid comes we’ll prelist him as a rookie.

I’m inclined to go with 1.

We haven't technically committed to them. Just nominated them. We could still elect not to match a bid.

That said, I would be shocked if Lucas doesn't end up on our senior list. We have the picks. If we don't select him, we probably take a pick in the 60s which Austin has always been hesitant to do. Plus, unless we have the last pick in the draft, trying to let him slide to the rookie draft could result in another team taking him.

Him and Ben both shut up shop and barely played a game after the championships. You don't do that for a rookie spot when you could get a senior spot somewhere else. Would be dumb.

Everything points to the fact that they've already been guaranteed senior list spots. All our planning would have been done on the assumption that we will use our last pick in the draft on Lucas and either our 2nd or 3rd pick on Ben.

"Ex-Hawk Denver Grainger-Barras will train with the Blues over summer but won’t be offered a rookie spot, while delisted defender Sam Durdin and VFL forward Liam McMahon will also train with the club for one of those two summer rookie spots."

If DGB won't be offered a rookie spot, then why is he training with us?

Interesting, no mention of Duffy.

Happy if McMahon is train on, along with Durdin and DGB. No mention of Matt Carroll though.

Would be good clarity for projections if he is right about Lucas being main list.

Training for the chance to get an SSP rookie spot.

It seems you’re allowed to have a max 2 train-on players per vacancy, so we’ll leave 2 spots open for Durdin, McMahon, Carroll and DGB to battle for.

Simply, we are not taking him on spec., he needs to earn a spot in the SSP period, along with Sam Durdin potentially.

Thinking SSP signings may be dependent on who lasts to the rookie spot to be used. We had a link with Charlie West, who is more a robust swingman than a projected top line KPD. Thinking if West lasts to the rookie draft, it may affect the train on prospects. Part of me would like a small forward, or perhaps a general defender in that rookie spot, but it would also be tempting to take multiple KPP types to future proof the list somewhat.

It was suggested to me during the year that we were having a good look at raw Tasmanian ruckman Oliver Dean, which was perplexing…until you think of the Tassie team needing a home grown ruck in 2028. Might be good trade bait for a Tassie kid ready to go when they come in.

Doubtful Lucas is bid on, so most likely be rookied, which is somewhat of a steal
