I wouldnt read anything into that. We don't need to offer them a vfl contract. They have train on spots. If they arent succesful they could still be signed, if thats what they even want.
I personally want Phillips but think that's a pretty skewed logic.
Plus we have a history of picking up rookies through our VFL pathway if they perform. This system would definitely be an attractive proposition for players looking for an opportunity to play AFL.

Agreed. The only reason Phillips has signed a VFL deal is to enable him to train with us as we exhausted the number of SSP trial spaces. All of the other trial players will have their pick of clubs in the lower leagues (including Carlton VFL) at the end of the try out period, should they be unsuccessful.
It's actually a really valid point. Gives us the chance to confirm or otherwise whether we offer him a contract or not.
I'm with a lot of others to sign Phillips - along with McMahon. Gives us key depth at both ends.
Pretty sure he did the same with a Box Hill VFL signing last year with the bonus of trialling with HFC. AFL gig got.

I've liked the signings across the VFL, AFLW, and AFLM teams. Seems a low fuss, let's get on with it, solid foundation, future orientated approach. Expect same with SSP picks. Bring on 2025.

We have put together a menās team that looks exceptional in most areas of the park with great depth (again) in most areas.
Thereās no team in this day and age that is 100% in all areas, it just canāt be so Iām really happy with the state of our team.
The part I really like is that we have only 6 players in their 30s and young 30s to be exact. So no matter what over the next 5 years, I donāt see us dropping into a dire state. We should be contending.

Some ridiculous offers youād assume being offered to him, whilst some offers would be definitely legitimate, overall all offers would be driving the market price up to benefit everyoneā¦
I know one club was offering 1.5 mil, not sure of the length

Must remember with these contracts now that the salary cap has increased significantly. 1.2 mil is the new 900k or thereabouts.

Far too much, if heād played most of the season at that top level of form he displayed that offer might be slightly more worthy of it, but not for a ruckman, no matter how good his talent and projection in his prime, thatās a bit of a stretch paying way overs to entice himā¦
I think in hindsight this deal will pay off very nicely, his clearly our number one priority/ruckman and a major part of our upcoming successā¦

Yeah agree, picked him early to become a great ruckman, probably taken slightly longer than first thought, absolutely entering his prime yearsā¦
Tom was a masterful selection together with Harry and Charlie and to lesser degree Jacob and Sam obvious choices. A hand full of players that will end their footy careers as great CFC footballers. These selections will elevate SOSās term as recruiting manger to lofty heights, what pity that all other attempts by him to select capable midfielders turned out to be dismal boo boos.

Has the body to be the next max gawn. Only real candidate to take his mantle but heās a better forward and has more flair in the air.

Gawn has gone on record saying he thinks TDK is going to be the best of the next generation. He's a big fan of King.
Good value if true. While theres definately risk attached, other clubs would be offering much more. Need to be somewhat in the ballpark. He'd still be leaving a massive amount of money on the table taking that deal.
Factoring in salary cap increases, that deal would be similar to what Curnow, Weiteting, Cripps, McKay are on so keeps with our pay structure.

DeKoning 25yrs 78 games 30 goals
Gawn is a good goal kicking production going forward, just as good defensively saving opposition goals as wellā¦
If TDK can improve his all round ground contested marking and goal scoring, he definitely can improve his ability to match Gawnās output and goal scoring numbers..

Crippa signed a 6 year deal around the same age and I don't reckon a single person is unhappy with it these days.
Its definately not ideal but the reality these days if you want to re-sign these big name free agents. The extra couple of years probably helps keep the $ amount a bit lower.
