Same as the NBA, NFL and AFL
However 99% of players are drafted.
We need to rebuild from the draft as per 2000 and 2001.
We did pretty good đź‘Ť
16 teams, automatic priority picks ... it was much easier to rebuild in 2000-2001.

Never been harder than now since the draft was introduced. We're in a golden age of inequity.

How good was that culture building win against Blues last year?
Yeah but at least we denied the Blues finals. Oh wait….

The afl have created a monster with the academy system. It’s almost impossible to rebuild these days. When tassy comes in we will effectively only be able to draft from half the country. The competition has been horribly miss managed

We should go all in on getting Tom De Koning as a free agent. If we snag him then we should trade our Marshall for a first round pick. Having two A grade rucks is overrated. This way we lower the age of our first choice ruckman and add in a first round pick for free. Basically a roundabout way to pick purchase.

Too late for that. Row should’ve been traded last year if we wanted to do that

Buy low sell high

First draft power rankings. Starts the year with 3 in the top 10 linked to northern academies including a potential pick 1.

Another 3 at the swans thereabouts and the pies have a father son who could come on strongly.

Lots of talls and rucks overall in this draft class.

Carlton, Hawks, Essendon and Dees have Kalani White father son who is viewed as their Gawn replacement.
Throw in Oscar Allen compo to WC which could be pick 2 or pick 3.
Our pick 4 to 6 could be exactly where we were last year as pick 8.

Mitch Cleary saying “Saints have the most cap in the history of the game, can’t be seen to be low balling NWM - will need to be offering $1.3-1.4m p/y”

Every other NWM report I've read has emphasised that NWM's decision won't be about money.

We're being piled on here by the media.

In before NWM signs a million per year contract with us - "Look at St Kilda underpaying their stars, no wonder no-one wants to go there"

Maybe the players we were handed on the platter stopped the clubs management caring about recruiting performance for the following 20 years.

2000-2009 every club played in a prelim. A fairer system with priority picks back then.

But plenty of clubs got them.

We've absolutely got to take responsibility for our own success, but the idea that this is mutually exclusive from calling out the league for its inequitable system has no basis in fact.

Hall was better than Murphy. So according to your shortsighted logic, we have a player better than Murphy AND Travalgia.

Oh wow plenty to be excited about. I know you are rage baiting, but your take is really poor even for a troll post.

An 18 year old vs a 22 year old….

One kicked 4 on debut and the other 2.2.

I can't see him staying unless it's a 2 year contract to take him to FA.

I have no problem with academies if the clubs pay fair value. Not patched together later picks to make up value. That said they should only be for states that are non traditional markets and not for ever.

That has been my thought for the past six months or so. He will likely be told by his manager to sign a short-term deal and get his massive payday when he hits free agency.

I forgot where I heard it, but it seems like the young players at the club have made a pact to stay together over the next three years or something to build the club towards something that can contend for a flag.

However, a seriously poor season where we win 4-5 games and monster contracts from Port and the Crows might just make NAS think twice about the club's direction. Hopefully, the youth are committed to the cause.
