Looking at the game I was less than impressed by the coaching. Message should have gone out to Hill to get involved with a few cheap kicks and shoenmakers boot wasn’t used at all. Zero attempt to get him the ball and let him launch it on the wind, a few chaos balls might have worked in our favour.

Geelong looked very good so we’ll need to turn a few things around if we want to be competitive.

There was a moment in the 3rd quarter i think it was when Arie was about to take the kick out, Crows gave away a 50m penalty , Arie ran to about 35m and then kicked it sideways to the boundary.

A missed opportunity for him to run to 45m and launch it 60m and get the crows defence on the back foot. It may well have come straight back but we will never know.

Hawthorn have shown that there is opportunity for set piece play out of defence. Just need people in front of the ball to work hard.

Can't imagine Norf not matching a bid for LDU if he decided to leave (which I highly doubt either way)
Will come down to where they finish won’t it.

If they finish 17th. Pick 3 will be better than 2 first rounders. Because none of those picks will be as low.

Which is where I had them hypothetically finishing.

Matching just forces a conversation at the trade table. It doesn’t guarantee a better outcome. It doesn’t force the player to stay.

And in the scenario where we finish 15th. He wouldn’t be coming to us. He would end up at the like of Hawthorn & Collingwood and they will have sfa to offer in a trade.

Does that matter ie finishing 17th if North don’t have their first rounder this year ?
They traded their F1 for a pick in the 20’s last year 🤣

They still get the compo tied to their original first rounder.

So if they had pick 2 which they traded to Richmond.
Band 1 compo is pick 3.

If the club shares the same sentiment as most others about this draft, I’d like to see them get aggressive with our pick. Either try turn it into a player or turn it into a first rounder for next years draft. Don’t just sit on our hands and knees and take the scraps we are given.

So the plan as stated by the president is to start competing for a flag in the next 12 to 24 months or so. That clearly is almost entirely dependent on getting an LDU and TDK. But what happens if we are genuinely bad this year and the above doesn’t occur?

Players just don’t go to bad teams via free agency, it just doesn’t happen. I wish it did, that was the rationalisation for free agency by the players association but it was a load of shit. I wish the AFL had a culture more like the NFL and players went wherever the money was best cause they genuinely believed they can win anywhere. It would be a hell of a lot more interesting. Unfortunately the AFL is too dumb or spineless to realise this.

Read about the history of the NFL and particularly Pete Rosell who was the commissioner who presided over the league for 30 years and turned it from a second rung sport behind baseball to the juggernaut it is now and how strong he was on equalisation and any given Sunday as they say. There’s a reason it is so widely popular now. A strong and even league makes everyone stronger.

If we can’t get free agents to compete whilst Wilkie, Sinclair and Marshall are still very good with Tasmania coming in and the likelihood of not getting access to an elite talent this year I genuinely have no idea what we do. I think we may have missed the boat on trading any of the above for real value and they are too old to be enticing for the Devils.

I think we would need to start preparing a case to the AFL for concessions for this year. Not in extra picks but for us not to get pushed back down the draft order. Imagine sitting through a year where we finish 16th and then getting pushed back to a talent in the teens whilst the Suns and Lions get 4 picks in the top 6 between them. We can put up with a lot as Saints fans but that would be too much for me.

The team we put out on the weekend was as bad a team as we’ve had on the park at any point over the last 15 years of shite. It was seriously devoid of talent. I’m so sick of being a mile behind everyone for from a talent stand point. Injury played a part in that but to see us in this position after being so irrelevant for so long and to start a season with no hope. Feel as low as any point in my time as a fan. Earliest season I can remember is 1995.

Very worried the 4 pillars as they’ve dubbed themselves have backed themselves into a corner and won’t be able to change course and we’ll continue to see Jones over Boxshall and Cordy over Keeler for the rest of the season. Too much egg on their face.

If we have a top 5ish pick then it’s still worth keeping by the looks of things atm for mids

The club tried to trade the pick for Joe Berry in last years draft.

Firstly, bravo on the post.

The issue with free agency is the money isn't good enough. AFL players need to be much better paid. I think they get low 30% of AFL revenue. In America players get 50% of revenue. Increased wages makes it more likely players will primarily be making contract decisions about salary.

Seriously does anyone really think that TDK or LDU is going to come to us , I cant see it happening in a million years.

Why would either come to us , moneys not going to be enough to make them want to join a club that continually sh1ts the bed, I love our club and would never change clubs but I have just come to accept that we will always just be "St Kilda "

Very true but I think that even falls down when are verbally offering the ball park of what we did for Callahan and he still says no cause he sees the Giants as a viable option for a flag. There seems to be this growing culture that smaller Melbourne clubs are second rung and players just won’t touch us with a ten ft pole. We’ll be a case study this year as to whether we can tempt anyone with enough money.

Everyone has a price.

Aim high or give up on life after one pathetic round of footy... your choice!
Don't give up on life but even thinking we are getting all your Wishlist is just going to upset you when it doesn't happen or

Follow the storm instead , at least they are a serious football club
